Consumers and consumer based smartphones are dominating in the current market. But that doesn’t mean devices marketed towards corporate users are going away anytime soon. While the recent adoption of cameras on just about every BlackBerry (save for the camera-less 8350i and Bold), cameras seemed to be infiltrating ever nook and cranny of RIM’s product line. That is hardly the case though as a newcomer featuring one less piece of glass is very soon coming to Sprint: a camera-less 9630 Tour. The Sprint branded Tour will feature all the same great features as the camera enabled model minus the optics involved to snap those precious moments of life. Unnecessary? For most, yes. Simple IT policies can take care of camera functions rendering them completely unusable. Still, ultra secure corporations should feel a tad more at ease. The 9630 sans camera will set you back $199.99 on contract. Get those wallets ready.

Updated BlackBerry Tour (renamed “Essex”) to get WiFi and optical trackpad?

For now, take your rumor folder and gently place this one in there to foster and grow. If you thought the BlackBerry Tour was hot stuff now, wait until early 2010 when a lightly updated model is supposed to appear. Along with a new name, “Essex”, this new 9630 will get WiFi much like the updated Storm 2 as well as that optical trackpad that is surprising many good ‘ol physical button lovers everywhere. For now, this is all rumor without any pictures or internal leaked documents to back it up. Though, with the recent adoption of WiFi on the Storm 2 and the optical trackpad already on the 8520 and coming on the 9020, it only makes sense for these features to get passed on. Excited?

OS 5.0 leaked for Bold, Tour, and 8900

While Bold users may still be recouping from the excitement the latest AT&T update brought them, the more daredevilish users may be over and done with that already as they’ve likely had that firmware version for weeks now. While AT&T is still messing around with oh so old 4.6 Bold firmware, the real action is in the 5.0 scene. Some brave developer or insider with special access to pre-release BlackBerry OS builds was kind enough to open the door and let loose versions of the 5.0 software for the Bold, Tour, and 8900. Oh joy! I know you’re ready to start the digital exchange so enough talking. Get downloading!

BlackBerry 9630 (Tour) coming to Verizon in 2 flavors

Yes folks, Verizon will be getting not one but two variations of the Tour 9630 on July 12th. Now before you pour gasoline all over the yard and light it in celebration, you may want to know that the variation is more business centric and really means absolutely nothing for you, the crack addicted end user. The difference between the two variations revolves around the camera — one model will have it while one won’t. Pretty basic and primative stuff. For a little while, once RIM dipped their toes in the camera phone waters, every phone started appearing with cameras built in. In the business world, cameras are a no no. While you can disable said feature with various security policies, the outright lack of a camera all together will surely put those pesky business users at ease. What a rollercoaster of a ride your emotions are going through.
