Acer Unveils AcerCloud At CES 2012.

  • January 8, 2012 5:04 pm

Today just a few hours before CES Unveiled kicks off the pre-CES festivities, Acer officially revealed plans for their own iCloud competitor, “AcerCloud”. Like iCloud, AcerCloud will connect all devices (desktop, tablet, smartphone) with a personal cloud and allow syncing of data between said devices. Most intriguing, however, is that AcerCloud will allow mobile devices and remote computers to pull content from the host device even if it’s in sleep/hibernation mode.

From here, the service breaks into three areas: PicStream, AcerCloud Docs, Clear.fi Media. Jump in for the goods…

Check Out Acer’s A700 Tablet: 10.1″ 1920 x 1200 Display, Tegra 3, 10 Hour Battery.

  • December 30, 2011 12:45 am

CES is just around the corner and we’re already looking at perhaps one of the most tantalizing tablets, the Acer Iconica A700. Peering through the vast expanses of the internet should be pretty awesome thanks to the 10.1 display’s 1920 x 1200 resolution — far higher than anything currently on the market. Of course, all of those pixels need some serious muscle. That’s where Tegra 3′s quad-core heavy lifting comes into play. Not only will everyone onscreen look pretty, it’ll run buttery smooth to boot. Sadly, none of the above is any good if the battery dies every 2 hours. With that said, will the monstrous 9,800 mAh battery tucked deep within the A700 last a full 10 hours as Acer claims?

If we were you, we’d consider taking back that recently purchased (or gifted) tablet in preparation for the quad-core awesomeness that is about to hit the market.

Check back in ~10 days and we’ll let you know just how awesome the A700 really is, directly from the CES show floor!

MacBook Air Look-a-like, Acer Aspire 3951, To Hit The Market This Fall At Sub-$1000 Price.

  • August 9, 2011 9:18 am

The MacBook Air is a sexy piece of gadgetry. But OS X and Apple’s way of life aren’t everyone’s cup of tea (pay attention Doug). Thankfully Acer has something that not only packs similar internal hardware, but shares many of the same design characteristics as Apple’s latest ultra-portable. Better yet, however, is a rumored price between $770 and $960.

The laptop, Acer Aspire 3951, weighs in at 13mm thin and 1.4 kilograms (~ 3lbs.) and is powered by Intel’s second-gen Core processors. Storage is provided by a 160 GB SSD (optional) or traditional 250 GB/500 GB HDDs, Bluetooth 4.0 and similar sub-2 second boot times just like Apple’s MacBook Air. Battery life is even comparable at ~ 6 hours.

So how did Acer manage to pack everything within the casing and get a starting price of $770? It’s worth noting the SSD is an add-on option which likely means pricing could float closer towards $1,000+. We’ll have to wait and see just how accurate those prices are once the Aspire 3951 drops later this fall (October).

Acer Upset About Microsoft’s Increasing Control Over Windows 8 Requirements.

  • June 2, 2011 8:09 am

Microsoft is apparently making things too difficult for hardware manufacturers looking to be early Windows 8 partners according to recent comments made by Acer’s president, JT Wang. When questioned at Computex this week as to why Acer was not part of the early stages of Windows 8 tablet development, Wang claimed that “Microsoft is exerting too much influence on the hardware requirements for tablets meant to run the forthcoming Windows 8 operating system”. Meanwhile, other hardware manufactures kept relatively quiet with ViewSonic only offering up that “Microsoft has been incredibly secret about Windows 8 (at least in the UK)”.

If this is an attempt by Microsoft to exert even 1/100th of the control Apple does over their products, we applaud them for it’s badly needed. While a few manufacturers may be upset that they won’t be able to release bottom of the barrel hardware that costs almost the same as a bag of chips and a fancy toothbrush, we’ll take comfort in knowing the Windows 8 tablets (and other hardware) will be more consistant across manufacturers with similar performance.

With that said, Microsoft has announced that they’ve delayed the Integrated Development Program (IDP) for Windows 8 following the concerns raised by Acer and other manufacturers.

Pre-Event Leak: Acer, Fujitsu, And ZTE Joining Windows Phone 7 Party.

  • May 24, 2011 9:50 am

While we wait for Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 event to start at 10am (EST), Microsoft’s Romanian division just couldn’t keep quiet any longer. Three new hardware manufacturers will be joining Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 party starting with Mango: Acer, Fujitsu, and ZTE. Said parties have committed to to pushing out their new hardware before the end of 2011. Meanwhile, the WP7 Mango SDK is slated to drop within the next 24 hours with an official public launch for the next generation of Windows Phone scheduled for this fall.

Included features of Mango: Threaded messaging (groups email, SMS, Windows Live Messneger), Groups, and Twitter + Linkedin built into the OS core. Facial recognition for easier photo-tagging as well as speech-to-text and text-to-speech and more dynamic Live Tiles will also join the fray. And of course, multitasking is here as well. There’s more to be had, however, so stay tuned as we bring you a full wrap up at the conclusion of Microsoft’s event…

Acer ZGB Tablet/Laptop Surfaces In Chrome OS Bug Reports.

  • April 27, 2011 8:43 pm

Chrome OS junkies are no doubt good at waiting, and waiting…and waiting for some actual hardware to hit the market. Once potential hero in the Acer ZGA tablet/laptop was killed when Acer nixed the project in 2010. But there is hope as a new device, the Acer ZGB, has begun appearing in bug reports.

The hardware is again a tablet/laptop of sorts and features a 1,366 x 768 display with an Intel Atom processor powering it all. Obviously, as beta as this hardware is, the specs could change at any point with the ZGB hardware not even being released at all. Still, it’s nice to see some actual information pertaining to Google’s cloud OS. It certainly has the potential to be a game changer in how we interact with our computers and data.

Chrome OS is slated to launch in June/July of this year, so the wait isn’t too much longer. Persevere guys and gals.

Acer Iconia Smart Packs 1GHz Processor And 4.8″ 1024 x 480 Display. #mwc

  • February 14, 2011 9:29 am

4.3″ may be the default size for a high-end smartphone these days, but Acer looks to push that standard and challenge the very word “phone” with their Iconia Smart smartphone. To start, the Iconia Smart makes use of a larger (and longer) than life 4.8″ display running at 1024 x 480 resolution. For those not able to do the math themselves, that translates to a 21:9 screen — on a phone. Such display sizes are few and far between in the smartphone world. Truth be told, they haven’t proved to be all that popular yet. Acer hopes customers will think otherwise, however.

Other features of the Iconia Smart include a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255-1 processor, 512MB of RAM w/ 8GB of ROM, 8-megapixel camera with 720p video capture + 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat, aGPS and GNSS (Russian GPS technology) and Andorid 2.3 skinned with Acer’s own Acer UI version number 4.2.

The feature list is worthy of attention which is more easily evident by actual pictures of the device. As for upgrades to future version of Android, Acer wasn’t quite as forthcoming meaning it could be dead at Android 2.4, or it could all the way to 3.x and beyond.

Is 4.8″ and 21:9 too much for the pocket?

Video Showing 10″ Tegra 2-Powered Acer Tablet Leaked! #tegra #nvidia

  • December 23, 2010 7:57 pm

There’s no doubt that 2011 is going to be a big year for tablets. Between Apple’s iPad 2 as well as no less than a dozen different Android tablets, the RIM PlayBook, and Palm’s trifecta of consumer-oriented tablets, consumers will have quite the time narrowing down exactly what it is they want. And while we’ve seen several different upcoming tablets leaked in some form or another, this latest leaked video showing Acer’s upcoming 10″ Nvidia Tegra 2-powered
