There are many trials and tribulations in life that torture our souls and test our abilities as humans to traverse this little bluish marble (relative) floating in the vast expanse of the universe. Perhaps the greatest of these is the mundane task of waking up each morning. Normally, accurately reading the right time off of the alarm clock next to your bed (to those who actually have an alarm clock) takes a few seconds as your eyes are full of sleep, your brain process is running as slow as molasses, and if of course you’re laying sideways. While you can straighten up and get on the same plane as the clock, I know how precious you cherish every last millisecond of sleep. Anything that gives me a few extra moments of shut eye is a big deal in my book.

Greg Wolos could be quite possible one of the smartest men alive…or he just created something that should have come along many years ago: “Emily”. No he didn’t create a female humanoid/alarm clock. Emily is the name of a normal alarm clock. Except with a special twist, literally. The clock’s display is sideways and for good reason. When you’re sleeping, you’re usually in a horizontal position. By making this clock readable in a natural sleeping position, the time that comes every morning when you have to peer out of a tiny slit in one eye is now much easier.

Easier on your frail human body that is as your wallet won’t be treated so nicely. The brushed aluminum wrapped clock will set you back a tad more than your average alarm clock weighing in at a portly $129. But we of all people should know high tech and “eye pleasing” gadgets are hardly ever economical. Make waking up easier on yourselves. Emily is ready and waiting…

While I have generally not been to interested in the various Steampunk products that have been circulating around the inter webs the last several months, one in particular caught my eye just because of it’s sheer beauty. The Steampunk + Nixie Clock is all about what geeks stand for. Antique and ancient designs come together in perfect unison giving 10 lucky (and deep pocketed) individuals a chance to own a true piece of geeky gadgetry. Constructed from vacuum tubes, this clock features an alarm as well as options to set the choice of time or date to be displayed. While not loaded with features of most of todays alarm clocks, most of todays alarm clocks don’t take 4 months to craft out of solid brass (gold optional) and copper adding to the exclusivity. As previously hinted, there will only be 10 of these little wonders created meaning the price will certainly be a small fortune. Place your order and get ready to wait four months before touching your prized possession.
