A few fortunate Droid users are going to bed tonight with a nicely updated Droid featuring OS 2.0.1. I myself can count myself in that group, though it was by my own doing. I’ve grown tired waiting impatiently for my 2.0.1 Droid update. So I did it myself. So far so good. My Droid is snappier in pretty much every area and I’m really liking the new lockscreen. Jealous? You can get in on the action too.
- Copy “update.zip” to your SD card.
- Power off y0ur DROID: top key, hold it down and then select the menu option to turn it off.
- Open the physicial keyboard: Power on Droid by and holding “X” key AND power button at the same time.
- When you see a “/!\” symbol: press and hold first vol+ and camera button.
- Keep holding it down roughly 15-20 seconds
- Once the menu shows: Use the dpad to select the SD UPDATE.ZIP
- When it’s done hit the Dpad button, up top it says to hit it to reboot now.
Remember, you’re on your own more or less so be careful and don’t get lazy with those ham fingers when pressing the important sequence of buttons….get going! Be sure to let us know how it goes for ya!

Get your salt shakers folks. You’ll need them yet again as this is for now a “what if” type of question. It’s highly suspected that the Android 2.0.1 update will drop on December 11th just a few days from now. Verizon themselves mentioned that the Droid would receive such an update “before the holidays”. Now, also put into your internal RAM that Verizon has stated that the HTC Droid Eris will receive an upgrade to at least Android 2.0 in Q1 of 2010. Finally, back on November 9th we had a story detailing some leaked internal documents highlighting current Android 2.0 problems and plans to issue two updates — one on December 11th and one on January 22nd.
So now that we’re a several weeks into the futureand have had some more information creep out since November 9th, do you feel that the impending Android 2.0.1 update does highlight some truth in a January 11th/22nd release date for Android 2.1 as indicated on those leaked internal documents? I mean, various official confirmations from Verizon, Motorola, and HTC have been made promising of updates around these dates. So now I guess the only two things to ask are do you think this dual update plan will play out and which date do you see being the birth date of Android 2.1 — the 11th or 22nd — if any? I’d be more willing to side with the document. Then again, that was a good month ago…
