New Apple TV continues “rental-only” approach to digital media. Is it anti-consumer?

Apple is a funny company when it comes to updates. On one hand, they'll keep supporting older hardware much longer than your typical consumer electronics manufacturer. The original iPhone was receiving updates up until the iPhone 4 dropped. Granted, a security/bug fix could still make it's way back in time. But what end users really care about -- New features!! -- won't be going backwards any longer. And then you have instances such as the Apple TV. The first couple of years for the Apple ...
Skyfire submitted to App Store.

It's easy to say the weekly stories of App Store approval/rejections are an emotional roller coaster. But finally -- Finally! -- we can say that Apple appears to be weeding out the stupidity and employing some people with common sense once and for all. At one point, apps that "copied functions of native iOS apps" were banned outright -- no matter how good they were. But Apple has at least relented a tiny bit of control. Now there are several stand alone browsers to choose from, namely Opera....

New iPod Touches were a given. Still, it's nice that they're finally here. But as awesome as they are, the new iPod Touch is hardly the only thing worth talking about.

The way Apple should have handled multitasking: multifl0w

iOS4 and the iPhone 4 have remedied a lot of the issues that originally required jailbreaking to reach -- multi-tasking (kind of, since iOS 4's handling of 3rd party apps isn't truly multi-tasking), UI customization (ok, a simple wallpaper change isn't enough, Apple), tethering, and so on and so forth. I'll give it to Apple; every year like clockwork, they're pushed out a handful or more of useful and critical updates that keep loyal and new users alike coming back for more.
But even then, t...
Apple rejects app because it requires pre-configured user account. WTF?

It looks like after a brief hiatus in front page news, the App Store approval/rejection employees are working hard to reclaim their spot at the top of #facepalm hill. Today's story involves Read It Later, a handy little app that allows you to bookmark and save articles for offline viewing at a later point. The app is available on iPhone, iPad, desktop computers, and browsers, so you can see just how useful Read It Later is up front. But one feature in particular has stumped Apple's approval m...
MusicSkins give away!

Hey you. Yeah, you with the iPhone 4! Apple knows how to make a stylish product. I'll give them that. But sometimes you want that extra flare that sets you apart from others. Skins do just that. If you get a quality skin, they're easy to apply, protect your device from lesser scratches, and don't leave any residue when removed. WIth that said, MusicSkins was kind enough to give me a Jersey Shore iPhone 4 skin to give to you, my dear gadget-crazed readers. They're a pretty cool outfit as ...

I've seen some clever iPad-powered contraptions in the short time span the Apple tablet has been alive, but nothing is as beautiful as this match made in heaven: an iPad-powered Keg.
Created by Jeff Micklos, the iPad and it's accompanying "KegMate" iPad app allow you to tap into the details of every pour, temperature, info about the beer on tap, and even who had what and and what time thanks to an array of various sensors and arduino contorller. Talk about all around awesomeness. Hop inside ...

Apple makes some great products. There's no doubt about that. They're easily a market leader when it comes to consumer electronics. But they're far from perfect. The one thing that ruffles the most feathers as of late concerning Apple is that of iDevices and jailbreaking. Those whom are pro-jailbreaking say it opens up Apple's devices, adds functionality, and provides an overall more enjoyable experience. Those on the other side of the fence, however, say it destroys the iPhone's security,...

Verizon iPhone rumors are a dime a dozen. Since 2007, said rumors have proliferated the web in waves of interest and subsequent fall outs. The rumors initially draw a lot of fan fare. But soon after, the lack of any continuing information and actual tangible products silences the uprising. This latest time, however, the iPhone rumors are back, and pushing harder than ever. Specifically, the rumor of the day is that the surely upcoming CDMA iPhone 4 will get an upgrade over its GSM cousin ...
Like clockwork, Apple removes Camera+ due to oh so naughty hardware shutter feature…

And just like that, the super handy Camera+ hardware shutter feature that was unlockable via a simple Safari URL is no more. Apple has decided enough is enough, that they don't like innovation, and that the generally hate each and every one of us. In laymens terms, Apple yanked Camera+ from the market after the interwebs lit up yesterday with tales of the handy volume button/shutter trick.
The mindless followers will defend Apple religiously, citing developers of Camera+, Tap Tap Tap, as in...

Camera+ is an awesome and well put together iPhone camera application. In a recent update, they made it even better by tapping into the volume +/- buttons to use them as a shutter button. Awesome! I along with countless other iPhone users know holding your precious iDevice and trying to poke the screen to aim and shoot isn't always the best option. It's nice to actually have...you know...options. But this is the iPhone and the infamous App Store approval process at work. So you know where ...
