So this 3000 mAh external battery charger for the iPhone has been making its way across site after site this morning and early afternoon. While the specs that it brings are worth mentioning: 500 hours standby, 8.5 hours talk/cellular based internet, 40 hours audio, 11 hours video, and 10 hours WiFI browsing, the real crowing jewel is in the press shot. See that in the lower right corner? It’s a Cydia icon.
So what’s the significance of this? Absolutely nothing. Just something I found a tad humorous. Though, when manufacturers of third party accessories who at times have to buddy buddy with the device manufacturer they’re creating accessories for don’t even care about revealing their jailbreaking tendencies means Apple needs to drop the whol anti-jailbreaking thing already. Agreed?

While battery technology is making daily progress, it still has a ways to go before we can completely untether ourselves from outlets, power cords, and restriction. Because of the way batteries work, they won’t always hold the same amount of charge. As batteries age coupled with the amount of usage and stress placed on them, the length of runtime and life of your battery can be adversely affected. When it does come time to replace said battery, you are often left shelling out money that you didn’t want to in the first place just to replace a small brick of various metals to power your slightly bigger brick of plastics and silicon. Fortunately US. Cellular feels your pain and is proud to offer a new service: the Battery Swap program.

Have you ever had a time in your life where your precious electric sipping friend has run out of juice and dies a slow painful death? Chances are it has happened many times and fortunately you aren’t alone. Batteries don’t last forever and won’t within the foreseeable future. Thankfully the world does have some bright individuals and those individuals have supplied us with such inventions such as battery chargers that we can plug into various types of outlets to power our gear. Until now however, there was one area left untouched: battery powered battery chargers. What?! Maybe it is a secretive effort by some battery manufacturer to trick you into buying more of their batteries. While it could prove helpful in a few (read: very few) circumstances such as camping and you need to charge a phone, much more often than not you’ll just end up wasting money taking one battery and moving the energy to another. But one persons highly mocked and useless piece of garbarge is another mans treasture…or so they say. If this is in deed an actual product, may god have mercy on the pour saps who threw their money at it.

Finally! A battery-in-case that isn’t so big you can’t fit it in your pocket, it almost doubles battery life, AND looks awesome! Following Mophies fairly successful “Mophie Juice Pack”, the company realized that even that model was too big, bulky, and unsightly and that something else needed to be done. Today, Mophie introduced the new slimmer sexier “Juice Pack Air“. A new battery-in-case that is lighter, smaller, and a whole lot better looking than the bigger model. The JPA contains a 1200mAh battery that as Mophie puts it, “nearly doubles battery life”. I am a pretty heavy user and manage to get just about 13 hours out of a charge so double is plenty for me. Eager buyers can snap up a pre-order of said case in exciting colors such as black, white, and…purple…(odd choice for some pizzaz but whatever). I’ll take two please. Hop on through if you must read the press release.
