So this 3000 mAh external battery charger for the iPhone has been making its way across site after site this morning and early afternoon. While the specs that it brings are worth mentioning: 500 hours standby, 8.5 hours talk/cellular based internet, 40 hours audio, 11 hours video, and 10 hours WiFI browsing, the real crowing jewel is in the press shot. See that in the lower right corner? It’s a Cydia icon.

So what’s the significance of this? Absolutely nothing. Just something I found a tad humorous. Though, when manufacturers of third party accessories who at times have to buddy buddy with the device manufacturer they’re creating accessories for don’t even care about revealing their jailbreaking tendencies means Apple needs to drop the whol anti-jailbreaking thing already. Agreed?

Power inverters are hardly a new concept. They’re a basic device that converts a cigarette lighter outlet into one or many other types of electrical outlets so that other electronics can make use of an increasingly useless feature on cars these days. But what if you have multiple gadgets that you need to charge and space is a concern? The Multi-Port Power Inverter from Herrington Catalog is just the right size and price as to solve most electrical problems while on the road.

The design is rather simple and functional without useless features or dollars attached. Plugging the MPPI into your cigarette lighter or power point in your car will give you a pass through cigarette lighter/power point style outlet, a standard USB outlet, and your typical U.S. spec home electrical outlet. With an output of 100 watts, the Herrington claims you can run just about any gadget through the USB or wall outlet while still using the cigarette lighter to power say a radar detector. Among the list of other things to juice on the go, portable DVD players, laptops, cellphones, mp3 players, cameras, battery chargers, etc. The list is rather daunting and practically limitless. Pack all of that into a tiny package small enough to fit in a small pocket in pants, purse, bag, or glove box and you have quite a useful gadget.

Finally, dying because your battery exploaded or your power inverter shorted out and burnt your car to a crisp is a real drag. Thankfully this little wonder inverter has electronic circuit protection to prevent any type of electrical baddies that may try to come your way. *sigh of relief*. So whataya say? $40 too much?

If you drive a car, chances are sometime in your existence on the little blue marble called earth, you will run into the situation of having to get somewhere and having nothing but a dead car. It is a part of life that we sadly can’t escape. Whether the cause be from a bad battery, bad alternator, or simply leaving the little light inside on, having a dead battery in a time sensitive day and age is a major bummer. Sure you can fumble around with jumper cables, but that is so yesteryear. Instead, fumble around with the Quick Jumper. The Quick Jumper is meant to be plugged into cigarette lighters — one in the good car and one in the car that needs charging. The concept is ingenious and keeps motorists clean and happy. 5-10 minutes is all the Quick Jumper needs to bring your lifeless battery back to life.

For those needing a more solo option, the SelfCharge Auto Jumper comes with enough internal power to jump start your car also via cigarette lighter. I can’t believe no one thought of this or at least tried to market it before. It’s so easy that anyone of any age and intelligence level could do it. Pricing for the units goes as follows: Quick Jumper ($26) SelfCharge Auto Jumper ($46).

As gadgets get more and more complex, the pressures and drain on the batteries becomes increasingly higher. Unfortunately, battery technology has not progressed as far or as fast as other areas of the electronic world, meaning we often bump into our batteries’ limits far too often. While running out of juice on your mp3 player can be a real drag, running lower on flash light power when lost in a woods can be a more serious problem. Thankfully, a new kinetic battery charger desgined by Tremont Electric, dubbed “nPower Peg”, gives the consumers and electronic lovers a little more peace of mind and much greater range from power outlets, walls, and cords. How does all of this new fangled greenness work?

The inventor and founder of Tremont Electric, Aaron LeMiex, said the idea for the nPeg came to him 10 years ago while he was hiking the 1,500 mile Appalachian Trail. (Quite the adventurer wouldn’t you say?) The nPower Peg’s claim to fame comes from its ability to harness personal energy as us human beings walk about through our daily lives. The device then transfers said captured energy to any device plugged into its USB ports. It is important to note that while the nPeg captures kinetic energy for charing portable electronic devices, it cannot store that energy.

Weighing in at 9 ounces and occupying 9 inches by 1.5 inches of air, the Peg won’t necessarily fit in your pocket, but is small enough none the less to not cause any burden when all you have is yourself and a backpack. Since the Peg uses a USB 2.0 port for charging purposes, users will find that over 90% of portable electronics are able to be charged using this revolutionary and spiffy new gadget. Speaking of charging, the Peg is capable of charging most devices up to 80% charge in as little as 1 hour – best keep walking.

If you are in fact interested in purchasing an nPower Peg, I’m sad to announce that as of right now, the device is only available for pre-order. However, shipping of the actual units shouldn’t be much longer. One bonus perk that buyers will receive is the ability to choose between two different adapters for two different devices of the choice.

If you are a frequent globe trotter, adventurer, outdoors man, or any other type of nature lover who also happens to love electronics, never again worry about being away from the grid for extended periods of time. Simply bring the grid with you!

Have you ever had a time in your life where your precious electric sipping friend has run out of juice and dies a slow painful death? Chances are it has happened many times and fortunately you aren’t alone. Batteries don’t last forever and won’t within the foreseeable future. Thankfully the world does have some bright individuals and those individuals have supplied us with such inventions such as battery chargers that we can plug into various types of outlets to power our gear. Until now however, there was one area left untouched: battery powered battery chargers. What?! Maybe it is a secretive effort by some battery manufacturer to trick you into buying more of their batteries. While it could prove helpful in a few (read: very few) circumstances such as camping and you need to charge a phone, much more often than not you’ll just end up wasting money taking one battery and moving the energy to another. But one persons highly mocked and useless piece of garbarge is another mans treasture…or so they say. If this is in deed an actual product, may god have mercy on the pour saps who threw their money at it.
