Beejive Releases Facebook-Only IM App for iOS. #beejive #ios

  • December 23, 2010 10:20 am

On Apple’s iOS platform, there are no less than half a dozen to a dozen mobile apps dedicated solely to multi-account IM apps (that are worth using). Some are better than others. My personal favorite has been Beejive. It looks good, performs well, and as cliche as it sounds — it just works. But maybe you don’t want or need support for as many accounts as Beejive supports and you don’t like the built-in chat functionality in the Facebook app. Beejive has a solution.

Earlier in December, Beejive released a Facebook-only version of their popular multi-account app. And after a solid week of playing around with it I must say I like it and could actually use it full time. I’ve got many different IM accounts but really only use two — Facebook and Google Talk. Google Talk is taken care of by Verbs (review here). And now my Facebook needs can be handled with Beejive’s Facebook app.

If you’re even remotely curious about this app, get on the bandwagon quick as the app is at an introductory price of $0.99. Check it out in the App Store now.

Latest Beejive Update Fixes Bugs, Removes ICQ Support.

  • November 9, 2010 10:19 am

Beejive users: version 3.5.2 is now live! However, if you want to keep ICQ support, avoid updating for now. Besides new bug fixes, a few new minor features managed to sneak in including new message status indicators for sent messages, Bluetooth support added to Voicenotes, and the inclusion of .WAV files for increased cross-platform compatibility. However, one rather large feature that was removed from the latest update is ICQ.

Now before a massive public outcry develops, take note that it wasn’t Beejive’s doing. ICQ was recently sold to a Russian internet company by the name of “Digital Sky Technologies”. With the sale comes the requirement for a new negotiation between Digital Sky and 3rd party companies wanting to access ICQ and its services.

On that note, Beejive has stated that they are in talks with Digital Sky as to bring ICQ support back to the Beejive client as soon as possible.

Update:And there’s the game: Beejive for Android previewed, coming out later this afternoon!

For well over a year now I’ve been pestering Beejive’s email box monthly, inquiring as to when we’d see the fantastic multi-account IM app on Android. Each and every time I’d get a response that ultimately said no, but went about it in in varying ways. It looks like my emails can finally cease as BGR has a hands on preview of Beejive for Android.

The coolest feature that caught my attention from BGR’s preview was “chat drawer” that allows users to quickly access and manage conversations via it’s own drop down menu ala the stock Android notification bar. Pretty nifty, eh? As far as looks go, it’s easy to see that they closely follow the iPhone-esque UI. I’m not complaining though. Beejive is slick. In my eyes, it’s the best looking multi-chat IM app for Android. But not only does it have a pretty face, Beejive super stable. Back in the day when I toted around a BlackBerry, I never had any issues with Beejive. Ditto for my iPhone version.

Looks like the Android multi-chat app scene is about to get served. You’ll be able to find Beejive for Android in the Market later this afternoon for $9.99. Excited?

Update

It’s out. Go and get it!

Yak it up: Trillian for BlackBerry coming soon!

  • May 6, 2010 5:39 pm

There are some of us who like to talk, network, and spread our social butterfly wings. And then there are some of us who really like to talk, network, and spread said wings. For the latter, multi-chat IM clients are a life or death tool when out and about the town. For mobile users, multichat IM apps are a must.

For BlackBerry users specifically, there are plenty of options in apps to communicate with others already. Why add another? Hey, folks. Options options options. So if Beejive is old news, AIM’s app is making you weep, and Google Talk just isn’t fly anymore, Trillian would love to show you something. See exhibit A above — Trillian for BlackBerry…

BeeJive multi-IM client for BlackBerry moves to 2.0

  • December 7, 2009 8:53 am

beejive-logoFancy the BlackBerry do you? If you have any number of friends or colleagues that you converse with on a regular basis, you’ve no doubt encountered the various IM services that are available. Talking to individuals on all of those separate accounts used to be a chore — until multi-chat apps came along that is. BeeJive IM (formerly “JiveTalk”) is by far the best looking and performing multi-chat app for BlackBerry. Back in my BlackBerry days, I used BeeJive. It was fast, easy to use, and a lot more visually appealing than other BlackBerry chat apps at the time. Even till this day, BeeJive has a better fit and finish the most competitors.

Personal experience and jubilee aside, I’d like to announce to you that BeeJive has released BeeJive 2.0 RC 1. Now, if you’re not tech savvy or don’t know how to trouble shoot minor bugs, stay away from the RC 1 build. While slightly better than a beta in terms of stability and performance, it still isn’t the fully polished final model, ready for prime time. I guess if you’re interested in downloading BeeJive 2.0 RC 1 you’d probably like to know what’s new…

BeeJive 3.0 coming next week

  • June 2, 2009 7:43 pm

While WWDC is still an entire week into the future, anxious developers simply can’t contain their excitement and products much longer.  While background push has been a highly talked about potential feature on one of if not the most popular iPhone IM applications, BeeJive, it appears that next week we will finally see the release of background push notifications and get the much requested feature.  As far as other features or even information regarding potential fees from BeeJive 2.x to 3.0 versions are still shrouded in secrecy.  At least it’s nice to know it’s coming though….right?  Soon enough we will know all the juicy details.  Apple/iPhone users, are you starting to get excited!?

Beejive 2.0 for iPhone…In Pictures!

  • January 4, 2009 4:04 pm

beejive-20-friend-screen

Mobile Crunch was lucky enough to get a pre-release version of a big update to Beejive IM for iPhone.  This 2.0 version brings many enhancements including all types of file transfers whether it’s images, sounds, or documents.  Beejive has you covered.  Images show up in the bubbles themselves.  Clicking on the picture opens a full screen version.  Another nice touch is the document transfer support.  Word, Excel, and many other office documents can be sent and received all within Beejive.  A small feature but they included was the ability to change the sending/receiving sounds from default to either the stock AIM or Yahoo sounds.  That should please a few people, although I don’t see the sounds as a make or break feature, I’m sure there are a few people out there who do.  In short, Beejive updates an already impressive messaging app into an even more full featured and robust app sure to please many fence sitters.

BeejiveIM now available for iPhone!!

BeejiveIM

IM+ and Palringo..you can officially call it quits and bow to the supreme! BeejiveIM is officially out for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Coming from the Blackberry world, I used and loved Beejive (formerly Jivetalk) for everything…including sending text messages to keep my text message plan down. It was by far the best muli-IM client for Blackberry. And now the best has come to iPhone. So far every multi-chat client for iPhone has fallen short. Plaringo and IM+ can step aside now. What makes Beejive so great you ask?

Well for starters, it is extremely polished and smooth, no hangups or anything. Support for just about every chat service known to man kind. (Aim/mobileme, MSN/Windows Live, Yahoo, GoogleTalk, MyspaceIM, ICQ ad Jabber. It uses your data plan, NOT text’s so you can lower your texting plan and save money! Battery friendly, won’t drain your battery like many other apps. The developers of Beejive already have the background push notification service built in. It is ready to go as soon as Apple flips the switch on their side. But, until they do the Beejive developers have gone one step further and included instant notification by push email (requires mobileme or Exchange/ActiveSync account). BeejiveIM includes landscape mode for when you just want to type on a larger keyboard…!! Chat History, email chat logs to save chat history. SMS out, chat with SMS friends through AIM or Yahoo SMS out, it’s fully integrated with your iPhone/iPod Touch address book. You also get configurable alerts, customizable sound and vibrate settings, and buddy icon support.

While it is a little more pricey than the “other” multi-chat iPhone apps, it is by far the best of the bunch AND it’s cheaper than all other versions for other mobile operating systems! After using it for the last several hours I can tell you that Beejive truly delivers. It’s fast, stable, and has a sleek UI. It is my new #1 favorite iPhone app.
