Even in today’s digital world, the old analog classic dubbed “Black Friday” gets all of the attention for sales. And while this year’s Black Friday was on par with previous “good years”, the real talk of the town is Cyber Monday. According to PRNewsWire, Cyber Monday sales topped $1 billion in sales for the first time in history. Specifically, the total Cyber Monday figure stands at $1.028 billion — a 16% improvement over 2009′s $887 billion sales figures.
Looking at the bigger picture, it appears that Black Friday is finally losing its luster. And honestly, why wouldn’t it? Who wants to stand in endless lines winding through cold, dark mornings for a product that is almost certainly going to be sold out long before you ever get up front? It’s exponentially easier (and far more enjoyable) to sit in your warm chair and simply click “buy”? Were you part of Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or both?

While AT&T is currently in the process of drumming up hype for their Black Friday ventures, T-Mobile has some things they’d like to share with you too. Most importantly, they’re offering up their own BOGO sales to interested smartphone buyers. Phones that fall under the sale include the T-Mobile myTouch 4G, Samsung Galaxy Tab, T-Mobile G2, HTC HD7, BlackBerry Bold 9780, Motorola Defy, Motorola Charm, LG Optimus T, or the T-Mobile Comet. Netting you and yours one of these fine devices will require a new 2-year agreement and accompanying family plan. Sales start on Black Friday (November 26th) and run through January 28th.

In contrast to my massively dis-liked article concerning Windows Phone 7 and it’s supposed “flop” status, it appears for the most part that Black Friday will be a very good day for Microsoft and Windows Phone 7 alike. For instance, AT&T will be running a BOGO sale this Black Friday on all Windows Phone 7 hardware. Amazon is going even further, offering up Windows Phone 7 hardware for a mere $50. a pop.
It’s win-win for Microsoft. If people snap up these heavily discounted Windows Phone 7 devices, that means a whole lot of new users for Microsoft and more market share for WP7. On top of that, they don’t have to foot the bill for the discounts when all is said and done.
With as fierce as competition has been in the mobile sphere in 2010, this year’s Black Friday sales results regarding mobile platforms will be mighty interesting to see.

Starting Monday, November 22nd, U.S. Cellular will be holding a massive Android sale just in time for Black Friday shopping season. Several of U.S. Cellular’s Android lineup will be heavily discounted.
- Samsung Mesmerize (Galaxy S Phone): $99
- HTC Desire: $49 (after $80 mail-in rebate + 2-year contract)
- LG Apex: Free (after $80 main-in rebate + 2-year contract)
- Samsung Acclaim: Free (after $80 mail-in rebate + 2-year contract)
Furthermore, customers who sign up for the “no contract after the first” (The Belief Project) can say good-bye to contracts moving forward after the first one ends. Banked points allow you to upgrade phones, sometimes as early as 11 months into your typical 2-year cycle. With Single Plans under “The Belief Project” starting at $69.99 and featuring 450 minutes, unlimited texts, included GPS navigation, and 5GB data, (Family Plans: Unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, 5GB data/line, and GPS navigation), it appears that a deal is to be had starting next week.

Even if your Christmas tree is a bit sparse and your holiday meal is a microwave dinner delight, you can rest assured that you won’t lose any sleep over any of Apple’s pricing this fine Black Friday. If a leaked poster is to be believed, Black Friday 2009 will be quite a winner for Apple with a rather rare showcasing of generosity by the Cupertino giant. The supposed discounts as they appear:
- Up to 15% off of all accessories, hardware, and software
- Up to 25% off of all Macs (Hello 27″ Core i7 iMac)
- **iPhone and iPod Shuffle excluded
A bit bewildered as to why iPods, the device that is losing steam is getting the most off? That’s the answer to the question — slowing sales means deeper discounts. Well, I assume anyway. As for the rest of the deals, they look pretty darn good. Enough to coax you into opening that wallet of yours?
