Coming off of yesterday’s review of BerryWeather, HandyWeather is following closely vying for your dollar and dedicated spot on your berry. As far as weather information is concerned, HandyWeather does a good job of laying out the information on the screen in a decent manner that is easy to read. Though, while the app isn’t ugly by any means, I much prefer BerryWeather’s visual appearance. HandyWeather is quick and simple to set up. However, settings hounds who love to control everything may find the apps settings menu a bit sparse as there are hardly any options to adjust yourself. Also, the lack of a “live” homescreen icon like BerryWeather’s makes this app less useful for those quick glances where you just want to see the temp/condition before heading out. Actually navigating to the app and opening it isn’t that long of a process, but, every feature counts. Finally, those still looking for a good weather radar app for Blackberry will be disappointed as HandyWeather doesn’t have one in sight. In quick conclusion, I would still have to rate BerryWeather as my favorite Blackberry weather application so far.

Blackberry users who enjoy a “deeper-than-average” weather forecast on their addictive devices will find that BerryWeather, while not perfect, brings a lot to the table. Is it enough to part with $10 of your hard earned money? If you can live without a dedicated radar and a few inconsistencies between the in-app temperature/condition current forecast and the homescreen icon’s display of temp/forecast, you’re already winning half the battle. The second half deals more with how deep your love for eye candy is as well as your affinity for weather info such as temperature, dewpoint, windspeed, and more, then BerryWeather is just the weather program for you. Overall, I give BerryWeather a 4.5/5 stars as the lack of radar keeps this BB Weather app from taking the “perfect” score.

While the Blackberry is the hands down winner of the corporate and workhorse world, the consumer oriented side and more “design” side of things aren’t really the Blackberries strongest points. Even on the newest models such as the Bold and Storm, many of the apps while extremely functional, look as if they were written and developed 8-10 years ago. BerryWeather thankfully is bucking this trend and manages to come off as a great weather app that looks like it belongs on an iPhone. Come inside for screenshots and the full feature rundown!

Blackberry users who also happen to be closet weather freaks or just simply want to know what the weather is take note as BBWeather has been updated to 0.84, albeit as an alpha so be careful as glitches and bugs aren’t ruled out. The developer, Tateu, from Blackberry Forums wants all to know that bugs and glitches are an ongoing fix and that 0.84 adds some notable new features. A new hourly forecast screen is now available as well as some new added shortcuts. All Blackberry devices running OS 4.3 and higher get in on the new update. Storm users take heed that their are some current image scaling issues however it is a known issue and will be fixed in future updates. The incorrectly scaled images can be scrolled through so nothing is really cut off per say. For the full list of new features as well as more forum discussion, check out BlackberryForums.
