While some may still be saddened at the downfall of Circuit City, many hailed its death as a death to shoddy policies and even shoddier CS. Still, losing the company meant losing several brands and products as those respective companies have so far declined to do business with any other brick and mortar electronics store. Thankfully, Best Buy Magnolia shoppers will soon be treated to Onkyo products once again as their manufacturer has voiced the new relationship.
Onkyo:
“We have worked diligently to position the brand where the product’s performance, capabilities, feature set and uncompromising build quality can be effectively and professionally demonstrated.
“The establishment of the relationship and placement of the product with Magnolia Home Theater is the culmination of these efforts.”
Those of you waiting out for Onkyo instore products that you could touch and feel, proke and proud, can take comfort in knowing that your steadfast patience and determination has paid off. Look forward to the new additions at your local Best Buy in the near future.

One would think that a company that went through bankruptcy, liquidation, and an online only resurrection would be a much tighter run and more consumer friendly ship. If you happened to be uttering those same words with Circuity City in mind, you would be oh so wrong. It appears that their quality control and shipping policies still suck. An anonymous tipster of the Consumerist recounted his less than favorable encounter with the new Circuit City’s fine display of quality and consumer confidence building traits. Long story short, the tipster purchased a TV mount which came *kinda* wrapped and in good ‘ol Circuit City style, missing half of the contents. Of course, refunding the poor customer and sending him a new mount would be far too easy, so, they payed for a second mount with the added donations supposedly being refunded once the old mount is received back at C.C. central. What does this teach us folks? Once a lousy consumer electronics giant goes bankrupt and out of business, no amount of “newness” is going to help. Seems as if it is still wise to avoid Circuity City like the plague. You agree?

I’m sure a couple people must have been sad when the second biggest (here in the States) consumer electronics store, Circuit City, bid its final farewell a few months ago. Time has quickly passed and many are already moving on to bigger and better things. Some have moved to Best Buy while others have completely given up on brick and mortar stores altogether, instead opting to do more shopping from the comfort of their humble abodes. However, it looks as if their will be an electronic Jesus as CircuitCity is coming back from the dead (thanks to Systemax Inc.). The new online electronic super store will soon yet again grace our computer screens and minds alike. Are you ready to welcome them back with open arms?

It appears the big box electronics retailer war(?) got another contender by way of…CompUSA. Wait…what? That’s right folks. The big box retailer that shut down not so long ago is reopening stores in Florida. Does this mean that we could see Circuit City coming back too? Well judging by CompUSA’s resurrection as well as Circuit City stating on their website that it will reopen soon, one can only wonder. Apparently this time around CompUSA is going to be more friendly and “open” taking cues from the Apple store. How so? Well they aren’t going to hang fruit logos around the store, but they are going to go a more simplistic route. Instead of having a bajillion (scientific term) computers squeezed in and locked out with some stupid screensaver or even more ridiculous demo so customers can’t even use them, they are going to be again more Apple-esque and encourage customers to stay and enjoy what they have to offer. Hey, it has worked for Apple. While CompUSA doesn’t have the allure that Apple does, I’m sure there are some none to happy now Best Buy customers or online shoppers that would love to have another brick and mortar option. Anyone hoping for a new CompUSA in their neighborhood?

Don’t they know when to throw in the towel and just give up already? According to Circuit City’s website, the website will “relaunch/reopen” in the coming weeks. Is Circuit City regrouping to become an online mecca? Or is it a pathetic attempt by the remaing few that will ultimately end in utter failure…again? Sorry to all of the 30,000 employees who lost their jobs as you still won’t be getting anything in return except a bitter taste in your mouth about the company you used to work for. Only now they are less you and potentially on the road to money making success once again.

The death of Circuit City has saddened some while making others giddy like little school girls. Why? When any store goes out of business usually a fire sale marks the last few days to week of the stores existence. In the case of Circuit City, many have been greatly disappointed as the “deals” have been rip offs. Take for example this current “bargain” at Circuit City. An HP DV4305US on sale for a mere $705.46…down from $829.96! Talk about a deal. It gets even more ridiculous when the specs are known. Continue on…

The economy hasn’t been the nicest to many people. Times are tough. And those same times are hitting Circuit City hard. Circuit City’s CEO was quoted saying that “unless someone bought the company by January 16th, a liquidation was a very real possibility.” Well, no one ponied up for the ailing once great tech giant and they are now in the process of liquidating everything. So, If you have been waiting to purchase anything electronics, run to your local Circuit City because you will probably walk out with a really sweet deal!

An article on the Consumerist made me realize that while Best Buy certainly has enough shady marketing and sales tactics to keep bloggers busy for months, they aren’t the only crooks in town. A particular account by Brandon, a regular Consumerist reader, wrote in telling of his ordeal with Circuit City’s promise of Christmas Delivery if you ordered by December 18, 2008. So, he waited until 12:01am and ordered some gifts. Obviously reading the title above you can guess what happened next…or didn’t happen. The gifts didn’t show up on Christmas, and poor Brandon had to give 3 friends and family members hugs instead of gifts for Christmas. Naturally Brandon was pretty upset and decided to write Circuit City saying:
“After seeing your post on the Free Shipping Day promotion, and found myself interested, but wary that I would not receive my order in time for Christmas. Ultimately, I decided to give it a shot anyway, comforted by the fact that all orders were guaranteed to be delivered my December 24. So, I waited until 12:01 AM December 18th to place an order with Circuit City, one of the partners for this promotion, and later received a confirmation e-mail stating that my order would arrive on December 24 at the latest.
Unfortunately, this was not the case. While I did receive one item from my order a few days before Christmas, the other three items did not arrive until December 28th. Normally, a delay like this wouldn’t bother me, but seeing as these items were supposed to be gifts for my friends and family, I got to endure the embarrassment of not having gifts for three people, while they got shorted on presents.
After e-mailing Circuit City, I was offered a paltry $5 gift card, which I refused on the basis of being insufficient. Instead, I asked for two $15 gift cards which I could provide to my two young nieces (who were two of the present-less people) on behalf of myself and Circuit City to help us both save face. Circuit City refused.”
Brandon (from Consumerist)
To make matters worse, Circuit City tells him that as a human and a customer he is only worth $5 to them. Below is Circuit City’s response.
“Thank you for your reply. While we certainly understand how this must have been frustrating for you, the shipping timeframes were listed on our website and in order to receive your items by Christmas you would have needed to order on or before 12/12/08. We can not honor your request for two $15 gift cards. The $5 offer is still available if you would like to take advantage of it.”
As you clearly see, Circuit City must want to go out of business by the way Brandon was treated. They have no clue what is going on and don’t even know about their own promotions. Pathetic! All I can say is watch yourself and be careful.
