Give your brain a workout with the Talk Time Flip Clock.

  • July 14, 2010 7:37 am

Clocks that use hands, numbers, or even binary dots are old news. Who wants to blend in these days? If you really want to stand out as a trend setter while simultaneously giving your noodle a bit of a workout each time you check…the time, you need one of these: Time Talks Flip Clock.

Pretty simple concept. The time is shown off in phrases/words instead of simple numerical characters. Being hip never comes cheap though. Expect to drop £299 ($450 USD) for the trend setter image.

For the true geeks at heart, another Binary Watch.

  • July 7, 2010 6:58 am

Nothing is as pure and simple geek as a binary clock. There’s all kinds of other gadgets, gizmos, and contraptions that show off your less popular side, but nothing is as timeless as time itself. That’s exactly why you need a binary watch. But even then, tons of people have binary watches and clocks, though some may haven’t the slightest clue how to actually read them. Now you can one-up them with this binary watch.

“The One” binary watch is a normal clock and binary clock morphed into one, with a single sliding door-like plate hiding either side of the clock face. A stealthy geek you can be! But what’s even more intriguing is the “geek in training” feature — the binary face has the numbers printed next to each dot, making it easier than ever for beginners to tell binary time by a simple glance.

There isn’t a price or available purchase date yet, but be sure to keep checking ThumbsUpUK frequently if things such as this interest you.

Wake up pecker: The Woodpecker Alarm Clock

  • May 7, 2010 6:53 am

There are numerous types of alarm clocks coming in all kinds of shapes, sizes, and alarm types. The market is literally flooded with sleep killing devices all doing the same thing in the same basic manner. If you’re looking for something a little more unique and happen to have a fairly fixed schedule, the Woodpecker Alarm Clock is worth your gaze.

The biggest thing you’ll notice right off the bat is the lack of any clock face. That way you haven’t the slightest idea when the time of reckoning is coming. As touched on earlier, if you have irregular wake up times or contain the ability to sleep through nuclear holocaust, you may want to look elsewhere as this alarm clock isn’t the loudest. A simple wood tapping sound subtly eases you from your unconscious slumber.

More Star Wars, more clocks.

  • March 8, 2010 5:49 am

Amassing a ginormous collection of LEGOs — good. Amassing an equally large assortment of Star Wars memorabilia — also, very good. Blending the two together over and over again — geek sensory overload. Geeks like gadgets. Geeks like Star Wars. It’s actually a well known yet scientifically undocumented fact. So you could imagine that an alarm clock with a Star Wars theme completely constructed out of LEGOs would be a smashing hit? Well, what do you think about this — a Star Wars Lego Alarm Clock? Feature nuts will be let down as basic snooze and alarm functions are about as complex as it gets. But that isn’t the point here now is it? Sometimes it’s the simplest things that are the most sought after.

Strobeshnik clock is the coolest hard drive/clock mod you’ll ever see!

  • March 6, 2010 11:37 pm

I’m one for unique, creative, and downright “your jaw hit’s the floor it’s so cool” gadgets. When someone takes the time to blend various objects or modify gadgets into new things that are completely off the wall, it’s a testament to how much of a nerd they really are. Say someone were to take your normal spinning hard drive, place a few LED’s behind the spinning platter, cut out some numbers, and time it all so the LED’s lit up at precisely the right moment as to show the current time — the result would be nothing short of amazing, no? For one modder, “Svofsk”, that very thing has been accomplished. Let me tell you, it may not seem like much — timing some LED’s and all — but when you stop and think about how fast hard drives spin and how fast (and precise) such LED on/off transitions have to be, well, it becomes pretty mind boggling. But don’t let my senseless babbling be the only source you have for this. Check out the vid below…

Skateboarders and time obsessed people unite: The Coo-Coo Skate Clock

  • February 12, 2010 2:03 pm

I’ve seen some rather unique and odd gadget pairings before, but the skateboard coo-coo clock is definitely one of the weirder ones. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking this fine display of creativity, merely get a small laugh out of two completely unrelated things being mashed into one.

One you get past the oddity at first sight, you begin to realize that no matter the things combined, even this skateboard clock is cool and desirable in it’s own way.

$55 sound right?

The iBook G4 Clock.

  • February 6, 2010 10:17 am

It’s the weekend. Time to relax right? Right! So how about a little more light hearted reading? Or maybe you’re looking for a small weekend project to keep you occupied? Well, I’m going to kill two birds with one stone here: The iBook G4 Clock.

If you’ve got an old iBook G4 sitting around or you know where to pick one up cheap, ripping out the internals and turning it into something a bit more useful in the age of Macbook Pros and quad-core mobile processors seems just about right.

If you’re not into the whole “weekend project” type of thing you’re in luck. Someone is doing the work for you and asking a small $75 fee for the trouble. If you’re intrigued, that someone goes by the name “pixelinfo” and can be found selling the iBook G4 Clock over on her Etsy page. Have at it.

Down to the minute stocking stuffer: The Robot Alarm

  • December 21, 2009 12:48 pm

Some people pride themselves in their ornate and sophisticated plans and schedules they lay their lives out in. Such ways to approach the daily grind aren’t necessarily bad, they just don’t allow for any flexibility in my opinion. Others however find a kind of rush by “flying by the seat of their pants” into any and all situations. Which one are you? It really doesn’t matter. The Robot Alarm knows no right or wrong. Whatever type of person you are, organized or completely chaotic is nothing to this little alarm. The only thing it longs for is a loving (or not) touch from you each morning letting it know you’re still alive. $13.69 for waking up a little nerdier and a little happier. What say ye?

Crack open a cold one without the lingering tuna smell: The Tuna Alarm Clock

  • December 16, 2009 7:40 am

tune-clockBe daring. Be different. Wake up in a whole new way with the Alarm Clock Tuna Can! If you crave individualism and long for expressing yourself in ways that are new and untapped by the masses, using a not so common alarm clock could be the first of many ways to shake up your life and those in it.

For the first few seconds, an alarm clock modeled after a can of tune (WTF?) seems pretty funny and cool. Then you come to the realization that the clock is hidden under the lid. Granted you can always pull the tin shroud back revealing the ultra econo-display that adorns the face of the clock. Hear that? It’s the sound of another novelty gift getting tossed into the bottom of someone else’s stocking. All jokes aside, it would be pretty funny to replace a tuna lovers cabinet with a collection of these and watch their face as they realize their entire stash has been compromised. Such a joke would be hilariously funny though cost prohibitive.

In the end, opening a can marked tuna without getting that clingy stench stuck to your ham fists is something we can all appreciate. $7.95 and it’s yours. Get ‘em while they’re hot cold!
