A few weeks back, I showed you an Apple Store going in my home town in the local mall. Now I’m showing you the infant stages of an Apple Store under construction — from the inside. While I wasn’t there when the image was taken, a local tipster was, and was kind enough to snap a picture while the large construction doors were momentarily open.
Compared to what it looks like from the outside, it appears a bit small. But that’s a trivial matter. The mere fact we have one now means I’ll spend plenty of time wondering the majestic, albeit cramped corridors.
There’s still no official opening date, but the word ’round these parts is “by holidays 2010″. That’s not very far away. To all of you who don’t live in northern Indiana/southern Michigan, I’m sorry to bore you with such things. But for the rest of us trapped here, it’s the perfect way to end a Friday morning.
If you were cool, you would make an exoskeleton out of LEGOs that you could put on and wear around like a total nerd. Or, you could take that LEGO exoskeleton and go above and beyond by adding in actual “intelligent” motors that would mimic your hands every movement. That’s what David Hyman did anyway.
His LEGO Exoskeleton hand is built out of 100% LEGOs yet powered by an external hand controller that will follow every motion his real hand makes. If that’s not bleepin’ cool I don’t know what is. Alright — race is is on to see who can build the first full body LEGO exoskeleton!
Before you get too excited, we must mention that these are renderings and not actual buildings. Bummer, I know. How cool would it be to tell your friends you live in a giant NES? You’d be the envy of geeks everywhere.

I played with LEGO’s as a kid. I play with LEGO’s now. Not much has changed. I’m a bit taller, shower more regularly, and can drive a car (legally). But other than that, I’m still a big kid at heart. Perhaps that’s why I get made fun of for playing with LEGO’s from time to time. It doesn’t really matter to me as I’m a nerd and will always be a nerd. There’s no hope for me. And with toys such as the LEGO bot you see above, I will love every second of it…
Fancy building stuff with little colored plastic blocks? At some point in time, most of you would have answered yes. Even now into your adult years, some of you still do. *sheepishly raises hand* Regardless if your LEGO usage is described by past or present, there’s no denying the versatility and creativity that these little blocks can inspire.
Think of one of your biggest wishes when you were a kid. For some, it was a constant rain of chocolate. Others wanted an unlimited supply of toys. Yet some were more logical in their wants and wishes, and instead sought out something a tad more useful, say, massive, larger than life LEGO blocks. If that just so happens to quantify your early years, a new building block by Ecomat is just for you.
Some of us are afraid of heights. Others are afraid of spiders *raises hand*. And then there are folks afraid of the dark. I wonder how scary the darkness would be with the aide of a LEGO Light molded to look exactly like the classic 2 x 2 cube many of us have grown up piecing together countless times? Ya, now it’ll be fun to turn out the lights…
Take the world’s most expensive super car — the Bugatti Veyron valued at $1million+ — and then toss in a genuinely good attempt at a LEGO re-creation. Now, take that LEGO-fied Bugatti Veyron and slap an RC motor into and a 7-speed sequential gearbox. That my friends is the recipe for the most badass geek toy eva! The only thing that’s left to “want” in such a unicorn of a creation is one that is actually big enough to drive around. Just think — a $1million+ car costing fractions of the norm thanks to the in-house construction brought to the masses by LEGO’s.
Anyone feeling like their ultimate LEGO creation from years past somehow now sucks in comparison…?
LEGOs are geeky enough. Star Wars — times two. Throw fooseball into the mix? Dear god, you’re asking for trouble. Austrian LEGO/Star Wars/Fooseball nut, 2×4 did the unthinkable and mashed together several staples of a geek’s “way of life” into one of the greatest creations of all time: a Star Wars fooseball table constructed entirely out of LEGOs. Does it get any better? Yes, it’s fully playable. Try not to let your 2-ton jaw hit the handles as it rockets to the floor. Rebuilding this beast would be an undertaking of epic proportions. Not to mention, watching this crumble to pieces would make any geek cry. Who’s ready for a few rounds?
