Irony at it’s finest: Microsoft giving away Macbook Pro’s as rewards. Icicles to jut from the ground in 3..2..

  • February 22, 2010 10:02 am

As I myself look for a new computer, I find myself pulled every which way trying to make sense of the non-sense that normally fills my head on top of spec sheet after spec sheet. What should I get? Well, if I want to save a buck or two I can enter “Mac Office Loves You and win a free Macbook Pro. Sweet. Who doesn’t love free, not to mention a shiny new Macbook Pro free? Answer: No one. The irony: It’s a giveaway by Microsoft.

I totally get the whole Office for Mac push (I hate iWork by the way), but giving away a free Macbook Pro even if it benefits Microsoft in the end run is still mighty comical if you ask me. Then again, Microsoft makes a lot more money on software than they do on hardware purchases. Of course, a Windows OS license costs a bit more than Office. Oh geeze. It can go both ways. What do you think, smart decision?

“I’m on a Phone Mutha f*cker” challenges “I’m On A Mac” for best “I’m On A Boat” remix/parody. [Parody]

  • December 29, 2009 10:05 am

Follow that? T-Pain’s “I’m On A Boat” while not everyone’s personal preference for music, has enjoyed a fair amount of “remixing” the last couple of months (Kanye West version oddly absent). Yesterday we saw a parody movie of “I’m On A Boat” done by SwitchtoMac dubbed “I’m On A Mac”. The corniness couldn’t be ignored, but overall it was clever and helped relieve a small smidgen of daily stress.

Today however the Mac is old news and “I’m On A Phone” is the latest and greatest parody. It’s important to highlight the two videos and their creators are completely unrelated. “I’m On A Phone” is actually the $5,000 winner of Smule’s (developer of “Ocarina” and “I am T-Pain” iPhone apps) contest they launched to promote the “I am T-Pain iPhone app.

Did they succeed? You be the judge. A fair amount of laughs and large amount of vulgarity will ensure that the next two minutes and fifty-four seconds of your life are a tad better than the rest. Give both Smule contest winner “I’m On A Phone” and SwitchToMac’s “I’m On A Mac” a watch and let us know which you like better!

Help a nerd out: Vote for Jake Kirshner to gain blogging rights to CES and attend Winter Olympics in 2010

  • November 24, 2009 6:58 am

jakeWhile I understand Jake Kirshner is a Gizmodo reader (no hate, I love reading Gizmodo too), I still find it worthwhile to mention his cause. You see, he’s one of the top finalists in Microsoft’s contest to send one lucky blogger/athlete to both CES and the Winter Olympics in 2010. As you can imagine, both are incredibly rare and exciting opportunities. Jake you see is a Computer Science major at the University of Utah (read: he’s a nerd), therefore the CES trip is more than needed. But not only is he a gadget nerd, he’ a competitive skier as well — hence the Winter Olympics tour — who happens to know how to blend his two loves together on his website, JakeCast. It is there that he posts videos from his helmet mounted POV cam to give us all a small taste of what he experiences each and every time he throws himself over the snow covered edge.

If you’re feeling a bit of kindheartedness this fine November morning, why not stop on by the official contest page and cast your vote for one Jake Kirshner to fulfill two of his biggest fantasies.

RingtoneStudio Giveaway contest!

Can you believe that just a few years ago, a “cool” ringtone was one of those polyphonic pieces of garbage? Hey, I can’t poke too much fun as even I at one point was captivated by this chorus of simple notes strung together (my how we’ve come so far…). These days, making your own ringtones can come from any number of sources. With Apple’s iPhone being the force to be reckoned with in the consumer smartphone market, customizing said gadget with your own personal flare is pretty desirable. Unfortunately, Apple doesn’t all you to create ringtones out of already purchased or 3rd party downloaded songs without paying extra money. My reasoning for such double payments are best reserved for another time and instead focus on what this article is really about — Free stuff! Now that got your attention didn’t it?

The makers of RingtoneStudio are hosting a contest for you iPhone toters to spur sales and get the word out about their product. If you couldn’t gather or long for more info, simply put, RingtoneStudio makes personalizing your iPhone with custom ringtones insanely easy and fun. The more friends and family you sign on board with RingtoneStudio the better as more sales equal bigger prizes. The prize giveaway is broken down into 3 phases:

  1. Phase 1: 3 lucky, completely random users of RingtoneStudio will be drawn each winning a $15 iTunes gift card.
  2. Phase 2: Once sales of RingtoneStudio hit 100 units, 2 more lucky winners will receive $50 iTunes Giftcards.
  3. Phase 3: After sales surpass 250 units, one lucky winner will walk away with the grand prize — a fully *legally* unlocked iPhone 3G

**You do not need to actually purchase anything to be entered into the contest as online entry forms can be found at createiphoneringtones.com/contest/. But remember, if you don’t purchase anything, and the next person doesn’t either, no one will win any prizes. Do yourselves a favor and give a little. It could pay out in the end.

The whole shebang is pretty awesome if you ask me. The contest started on November 1st, but don’t get your little gadget loving self in a twist as you have until November 30th to get in on the sweet action.

Thanks, Nikki
