Geeks may spend an inordinate amount of time geeking around on computers, gadgets, or whatever else it is that we spend time on, but at some point, we’ve all got to eat. The general consensus is that gadget aficionado and the like go for the quick, usually unhealthy meal. But every once in a while, we like to take it upon ourselves and expand our horizons, making our own food from time to time.
That’s where the Space Invader Toaster will seal the deal…
Ever since we saw early specs and hands on previews (and now reviews) of the latest Nvidia cards — the GTX 470 and 480 — many were passing off hand comments that an egg could be fried on these new cards due their high operating temperature. In many circumstances, idling between 70-80 C isn’t uncommon. For a reference, my ATI CrossFire 5850 set up never goes above 50 C idling. Two different cards, two different architectures though.
Seeing as how the new Fermi cards run so hot, I really was curious if it could really fry an egg. Thankfully LegitReviews had a review sample (and carefully placed egg) to put the rumor to the test.
Does it actually cook? **Spoiler** — No. Unfortunately not. Think of how humorous/cool it would be to have a piece of computer equipment actually heat up enough to fry an egg. Looks like we’ll have to keep around those antiquated frying pans and stove a little longer…
This one is for the Star Wars fans. I won’t rule out a specific gender as…well…it could really go either way.
Darth Vadar was always portrayed as this hard ass dude with a big black helmet, scary voice, and heart of cold steel. But deep down inside, he was a much softer, gentler man. He liked cats. He had a pet fish. Long walks were his favorite past time. And he loved, loved baking. Word is he cooked a mean Ewok pie.
If you’d like to touch upon this darker side of cooking, now you and yours can tap into everything that makes dark cooking what it is. For $19.99 you get the uber cool apron and that sense of dark evil. The mask unfortunately is not included. Though I’m sure a quick trip to Toys-R-Us could net your a suitable, cheap stand-in. Who’s ready to bake?
Microwave’s at one point were technologically amazing. TV’s have gone from massive cabinets of timber to mere shadows of plastic. The TV still has many ways to evolve. The Microwave — not so much. You can only do so much with a microwave. Increase the wattage, add a few extra buttons and you’re done. Much like many other kitchen appliances, the microwave has finally succumb to the flat screen age.
Admittedly not the first Microwave to implore the whole motion picture scene, it is by far the smallest, and best looking implementation of said mashup. Just think, buying a microwave in 2020 at BestBuy only to find yourself comparing input ports, display resolution, and deciding between 5.1 or 7.1 — on your new microwave.
Of course, the average microwave meal is in the 2-3 minute range so after commercials are filtered out, you’re meal is already done. With a wide array of input and output options however, maybe hooking up to or streaming content from your Boxee Box will sweeten the deal. Whataya say? Visual microwaving for the 21st century have you geeked?
Every once in a while, the human race stumbles upon an invention or innovation that truly benefits mankind in their day to day lives full of mediocrity and occurrences of the mundane. Such lives are often aided by technology. Whether it be to make a process faster, an object smaller, or help a sick individual, technology makes our lives easier. Introducing the Smart Measuring Cup. One would think this concept would have come along a lot sooner than…now. Still, you can’t complain, at least we have the device to talk about now. Featuring an LCD on the handle, users of said measuring cup will be able to precisely see the exact amount of whatever it is they’re measuring neatly inside of the cup. The first manufacturer to get their name slapped on the device will be Taylor Kitchenware with a release slated for this fall. Are you even more excited to measure stuff!?
Who wants a nice bag of freshly popped popcorn or decadent rich chocolate when you can have something so much better? What could be better than fresh popcorn or chocolate? Beans. But, beans pose a small problem. They taste much better when warm, something that isn’t exactly common straight from the can. Computer squatters and bean lovers everywhere rejoice. The USB Bean Microwave is your gadget that will effectively blend your two loves and bring a new sense of wholeness to your life. Supposedly, the brains behind the beans, Heinz, have found a way to use mobile phone frequencies specially tuned to certain wavelengths in order to achieve the cooked food we human beings so desire. Moving into the realm of mobile cooking on a whole new level, Heinz is also reportedly working on a way to use lithium ion batteries to power mini microwaves of the future. Exciting huh! For now, the product is considered the smallest microwave in the world and would make a neat addition to any nerds gadget stockpile. Too bad it is still in “beta” form. Hopefully this USB mini Bean Microwave gets good customer feedback so production can get kicked into high gear. Let’s just hope they leave that $160 price tag at home.
