LG readying next version of GD910 Watch Phone

  • November 12, 2009 10:56 am

lggd910

The GD910 watch phone was by far the coolest watch phone I had seen thus far. It was extremely classy and techie looking — a far departure from your typical watch phone which often comes away looking like a Miami Vice edition complete with 80′s build quality and all. The GD910 while a niche product and low sales was proof that a cool watch phone could be built.

Apparently there was enough demand that one generation just wasn’t enough as LG has the GD910′s successor scurrying the lab looking for a release date. John Barton, LG’s UK sales and marketing director was quoted saying that “several” more styles of GD910 are coming. Now I would love to think that a new design/version is coming, but it could also mean that something as simple as an extended color palette is all that we’ll see. Obviously I hope for the former as the latter is a cash grab.

If you didn’t pick up the GD910 the first time around, would new colors or even a completely new model finally break your resilience to open up that death grip on your wallet?

Hi-Tec Art to debut “stick in” LED game. Put your soldering irons away…

  • November 2, 2009 2:10 pm

Remember that old light up game/toy we had as kids where you stuck in different colored plastic pegs into peg holes and the light inside would make them glow? Now fast forward 25 years and things have become a tad more high tech. That old toy that once provided hours of artistic enjoyment is getting a refresh, albeit this time a new and emerging Florida based company, “Hi-Tec” is responsible. The biggest change to this basic toy concept is that that the “pegs” are actually individual LED’s that can be stuck in to the game board.

Now hold up a second. Don’t LED’s require soldering and careful placement in-line resistors? Why yes, yes they do. But Hi-Tech has developed a new type of rubber “board” that the LED’s stick into that is tweaked to offer just the right resistance allowing users the ability to jam in as many LED’s as they like with all of them glowing at the same level of brightness. Now the kids inside of us are free to create unlimited amounts of art as well as be mesmerized by countless personal light shows.

If you’re interested to know more, there are several ways to gather the information you seek.

Coke Zero Spy Cam: A carbonated beverage…James Bond Style

  • October 30, 2009 12:46 pm

Being a real spy means you need at least one spy gadget. Spy pens get a lot of attention these days as they’re ubiquitous and everyone has one. But only the really sly spies have cameras hidden in even more “out of the ordinary” objects. Objects such as your ordinary Coke can.

The cool thing about this Coke Zero hidden camera is that everything is hidden inside the can ($GB of storage and all) meaning you don’t have any give away seams, clips, or fasteners. To get the captured media out, simply plug in to the USB port conveniently hidden on the bottom of the can. I can see quite a few good pranks getting pulled with such devices. The only thing keeping me from pouncing on such a gadget instantly is the $53 that isn’t quite in that “impulse buy” region. Still, it is mighty tempting.

Clear Vu to bring affordable mobile video glasses to the masses. Lifetime without female companionship a hidden bonus.

Video glasses have long been a coveted accessory for many gadget nerds to add to their arsenal. The idea of being able to have big screens right in front of your eyes is a compelling reason for many to go into debt and melt a credit in the process. However, up until this point, video glasses have been pretty expensive putting them out of reach for most. Though it appears that a day of reckoning is finally approaching. A company called Optinvent in conjunction with a Japanese manufacturer are teaming up as to release a more affordable mobile video glasses solution sometime in the 2nd half of 2010. This more affordable venture has been given the name “Clear Vu”.

The reason the price is sinking lower is due to newer, less expensive lenses that should still deliver optimal quality for many more consumers. Of course, with mobile video glasses, the possibilities are endless. Everything from private movie watching, to gaming, to augmented reality applications leave my mind spinning — particularly the AR scenario. How cool would it be to walk around a big city with an AR app fired up merely looking around getting bombarded with all sorts of information and specs. I welcome you dear future with open arms…

Tiny USB Remote controlled Helicopter ensures hours of fun, minimal damage to your house.

usb-helicopter

Geeky little gadgets are something I long to find. When I can surely enjoy something more valuable or expensive such as a new laptop, mobile phone, etc, those little novelty gadgets are often some of the most fun. If you are a closet freak for air travel and long to someday put yourself behind the stick, yolk, whatever it is they call it these days, the USB powered remote control helicopter is just for you. While it is likely that this little gadget won’t help you in the slightest in real world terms or aid you in getting your pilots license, passing a few hours zooming around the house will be hard to top. The best part is that when the rotors slow and the action stops, simply plug the helicopter in to a USB port for some more juice. So tell your kids, it’s still not OK to throw balls in the house, but flying a helicopter is A-OK. The cost for such a venture? $39.99. You down?

Keep your data extra safe with Bust-a-drive

bustadrive

In an age in which digital technologies reign supreme, turning all of your old “analog” paper files into digital ones means that at times, sensitive information is at risk from prying eyes. But long after a piece of hardware equipment has run the course of its life/usefulness, the hidden danger becomes the information stored on board. While software methods of data wiping are available and the more expensive options are pretty thorough, at the end of the day, nothing beats permanent protection like a good ‘ol hardware solution. Introducing the Bustadrive, a simple tool that will render your old hard drive for all intents and purposes, useless to all but those with the deepest pockets.

The ultimate study guide: The Study Ball

  • May 14, 2009 12:48 pm

study-ball

.
We were all kids at one point in time. Can you remember back to gradeschool when your parents would make you do your homework before you could go out and play? Did you ever sneek out the window or only do half the work in order to gain your unwalled freedom only to have your parents find out later thereby sentencing you to a nice long “anti-vacation” in your bedroom? You’re not alone. Parents, how do you feel on your end having to constantly watch little Johnny or Susie as well as a clock, splitting your eyeballs between two objects as to avoid missing something? Isn’t it time to give your eyes a rest? Thankfully you now can with “The Study Ball”. As seen above, the study ball incorporates 20lbs. of metal into a nice handy and dare I say *almost* attractive ankle shakle with included timer so that those little rats will be forced to finish their homework or study until the alotted time is reached. Now you can stand back and laugh as they desperately though fruitlessly try to remove The Study Ball only to tire themselves. Parents, the day is now yours for a mere $115.

**Warning: You probably will go to jail if ever caught using one so do so at your own risk.**

Wake up quickly, albiet a bit wetter with the Dynamite Alarm Clock

  • May 14, 2009 4:26 am

dynamite2

Waking up in the morning is something that most of us don’t want to do – at least for a few more hours that is.  No matter what time we go to bed, when that alarm goes off we all want to throw it through the window or at least onto the floor hoping that it will shatter into a million pieces therefore effectively silencing the chorus of ear splitting sonic vibrations pounding our ear drums.  For most of us however, a simple hand smack or carefully placed finger will give you at least a few extra minutes of sleepy time.  For some, this snooze time goes from once, to twice, three or more times meaning we end up making ourselves late because one, we hit snooze too much, or two, we miss the alarm all together because it’s too quiet.  What’s a heavy sleeper to do?  Invest in the Dynamite Alarm Clock.  While it may not necessarily be that much louder or ear splitting than what you already have, the look of it alone is worthy of a wallet opening ceremony.  The Dynamite Alarm Clock is just one of those things every person should have in their lives, don’t you think?
