AT&T rep takes the whole Deathstar thing a little too seriously [Humor]

If this is a repeat visit for you, I’m sure you’ve at least seen one or two articles of my not to favorable outlook on AT&T. To the tech crowd, AT&T is also commonly referred to as “The Deathstar”. Perhaps the particular employee that was helping Consumerist reader Robert was taking it a tad too far? Psh, if anything AT&T should promote this gal to the top of the food chain. Blunt humor and more casual, consumer friendly mood. AT&T could use a lot more of that up top don’t you think?

For as cold and business-like as AT&T portrays itself, this rare showing of raw humor shows that at least 0.01% of AT&T is still consumer friendly. The blunt yet hilarious joke has me liking this Darlene chick. But after we get over the initial ha ha moment, we have to ask ourselves just how bad is it working inside of the company if the employees are (even jokingly) bringing up killing themselves….?

Funniest thing I’ve ever seen? God no. But it is the funniest tech thing I’ve seen this month.

Verizon’s latest response to AT&T lawsuit claims: Stuff it. You suck.

RAHMAN LEWIS

Anyone thinking that either AT&T or Verizon were going to roll over and let the other walk all over them in the courtroom has another thing coming. Neither side is backing down anytime soon as both have come forward with fightin’ words. We all know that AT&T’s latest claims has them bragging how “awesome” their EDGE network is when the “rare” extremely common occurrence of 3G-less AT&T coverage presents itself. Verizon on the other hand comes out swinging pretty hard saying:

AT&T did not file this lawsuit because Verizon’s “There’s A Map For That” advertisements are untrue; AT&T sued because Verizon’s ads are true and the truth hurts.

The truth hurts AT&T. But it doesn’t stop there. No sir. VZW goes on to further chastise AT&T’s legal department and clear signs of lacking common sense…

In the final analysis, AT&T seeks emergency relief because Verizon’s side-by-side, apples-to-apples comparison of its own 3G coverage with AT&T’s confirms what the marketplace has been saying for months: AT&T failed to invest adequately in the necessary infrastructure to expand its 3G coverage to support its growth in smartphone business, and the usefulness of its service to smartphone users has suffered accordingly.

So in the end we have AT&T crying over their own failures being pointed out by some other entity and VZW pretty much saying “Stop your bitching!”

What do you say?

HTC Hero going Blue in 2010

  • October 20, 2009 5:21 am

We all knew it was inevitable that AT&T would eventually jump in on the Android game. Though I’m sure many hoped they’d be a bit more timely and original. A few of you may see AT&T as milking the iPhone and it’s publicity for all it’s worth. While others may believe AT&T was simply waiting for the right handset to launch Android with. On that note, details of an HTC Hero launch on AT&T in early 2010 are building, leading to what we all suspected — that AT&T will finally launch an Android handset. Going back to that “waiting for a decent device to launch with arguement”, why launch a “new” handset 4-6 months after everyone else has had it? I understand that the Hero is a damn good Android phone, but with the absolute beauty that is the Sholes/DROID coming out soon and who knows what else in the wings for 2010, the Hero won’t cut it for a flagship, 1st Android device. I would think a completely unique and exclusive handset would make it’s way to AT&T. I guess I thought wrong. There’s still time though. We’ll see how it goes. Anyone else happy/sad/wishing for more?

AT&T drops a lead ball in a glass house

Yesterday at WWDC, the world found out about the next iteration of the iPhone and all that good and bad that is coming with it. While we all know about and are excited about things such as voice control, better camera/video capture support, faster process, etc., the real cream of the crop was the announcing of MMS and tethering support. However, one big, large, fat, caveat remains. The sole U.S. carrier of choice, A suck and T won’t have MMS ready until the end of the summer. As far as tethering is concerned, keep holding your breath as there has been no mention or mumbling from the death star camp as of yet. In reality, tethering will come and more than likely they are still working on pricing schemes. But, after thinking about it for a few seconds, a certain question comes to mind: Shouldn’t AT&T have had all of their ducks in a row several months ago?

AT&T to dig deeper into pockets…provide steeper discounts on new iPhones/plans? [Rumor]

Rumors make the world go round. They stir up controversy, debate, innovation, and excitement just to name a few. Today’s Apple rumor-o-the-day focuses on discounts, monthly service discounts to be exact. With the iPhone while still very cool though starting to grow a bit long in the tooth is nearing the 3 year mark, Apple and AT&T both know they need to keep the creative and innovative juices flowing, not to mention the cash. So far, just about all of the software based upgrades are backwards compatible with older iPhones, (except MMS and stereo bluetooth on the original iPhone), also, I can’t see too much of a difference hardware wise. Sure a better resolution camera/video support would be phenomenal, and is expected, though it is anything hardly earth shattering. Unless Apple has something crazy up their sleeve, the rather bland updates software and hardware wise that the updated iPhone line is to receive in the near future, AT&T may have to pick up some of the slack. How so? Discounted iPhone plans. The latest guess comes from The Street’s Michael Cote. He suggests $10 off of the $69 entry level plan would be about right. What do you think? Would saving $10 a month get you to buy in to the new iPhone whether you currently have one or not? What other ideas do you have for the almight death star that could turn their image and reputation around?
