The much requested, sought after, and now on again off again Android 1.5 update, a.k.a., “Cupcake” was finally officially announced and released (albiet staggered for U.S. users) several weeks ago. However this developing tango is seemingly turning out to be a major drag. Why the long face? T-Mobile appears to have a case of Indian Givers syndrome. The uh-oh details are just around the corner…

If you are one of the lucky folks that have been able to order one of Apple’s new 17″ MacBook Pros you have most certainly been bummed about the shipping delay.  However reports are coming in that the 17 inchers are starting to make their way to their new homes.  Two readers (123free and UFOGoldorak) over at MacRumors have reported getting their 17″ MBP’s already…slightly ahead of Apple’s (delayed) claimed February 19th shipping date…early is never bad people.  What’s nice is that UFOGoldorak has already put up some prelim benchmarks of the new hotness (a 17″ MBP with a 2.93GHz proc, 4GB RAM and Nvidia 9600 GT graphics card)  against an older 15 ” MBP with a 2.4 GHz proc, 4GB RAM and Nvidia 8600 GT.  The new hotness definitely leaves the ‘ol geezer in the dust.  Benchmarks for the geeksters is right here.  Enjoy!  If you ordered a 17″, send in some pics and let us see it!

One of the biggest upgrades that has been rumored for Apple’s iMac lineup is the move to quad-core processors.  The jump will bring pretty big performance increases in programs designed for multiple cores such as graphics software among others.  However, new information is starting to show that iMacs may stay dual-core.  Why you ask?

So the Pre just isn’t your cup of tea and you can’t wait until June anyway?  Well, the Palm Treo Pro could be your answer.  However, it is officially unofficially being delayed until February 15th…more than 3 weeks later than the orginal January 25th release date.  Yes it is a sad day for Palm aficionados.  Apparently Best Buy has already received their initial shipments but are locking them up tighter than Fort Knox until the 15th.  Sadly no rhyme or reason was given for the delay so you’ll just have to let your mind wonder and see what you come up with.

Mainstream core i7 arriving late to the party?

Due to economic slow downs and overstock problems, Intel is said to be pushing back the release of their more mainstream core i7 processors until at least late August.  The original launch time frame was mid to late July.  If the economic conditions don’t improve, or, get worse, the date could be pushed back even further.  Intel’s budget desktop processor replacement for the current Core 2 Due, the Havendale architecture, is rumored to have chip samples ready by next month.  However, production isn’t slated to start until September or October with the actaul launch being pushed into next January.  The effects of the slowdown are not yet known on Auburndale, a relative to Havendale designed for mobile processors, as to if that architecture will be delayed as well.
