Beer + Creepy Laugh + Slingshot + iPhones = Steve Ballmer’s Dreams

  • July 10, 2011 4:00 am

We’ve all seen em, the blender videos, the baseball bats, the rocks, the water – the list goes on and on. Videos of people destroying Apple products have long been a waste of YouTube space. No matter how much money spoiled brats have, they always think it is funny to throw away 200-800 dollars by destroying things. Don’t get me wrong, when I was young I used to see how much pressure it took to rip a G.I. Joe’s legs apart, and don’t even get me started on my Transformer abuse… But when it comes to iPhones and iPads, we can’t stop the wasteful destruction of such beautiful devices. These ‘magical‘ products clutter our pockets, backpacks and desks, but do we really need to clutter the sidewalks out side of Best Buys with their innards? NO!

I’ve started many videos since the inception of the iDevice – but never been able to finish one. It always hurts me inside to see something I can barely afford being destroyed. I would wait in line for hours on top of hours just to get a taste of the small letter I. These kids have nothing better to do than to waste their parents money… Okay, I’ll stop… This video though, I was able to get to the end. I am not sure why, maybe it was the fact they were older devices. It could of been the weird laugh he kept doing. Maybe the slowed down high speed camera showing the iPhone 2g slamming into the ballistic gelatin – I don’t know. You decide what you think. Was it a waste of time to develop a sling shot specifically made for shooting iPhones? Would it make more sense to shoot Zunes – I mean come on… Zunes????

Jump on in for a bit more and the fantastic video… Maybe even a Vampire Stake!!!

Discovery Channel gets its own iPhone app

For the closet scientists out in iPhone land, the App Store can now be called your official home. If you spend hours each week glued to the Discovery Channel taking in all that it has to offer, you will be ecstatic to know that you can now take all of that geeky love on the go via your iPhone. The app will bring you copious amounts of video clips, quizzes, photo galleries, program schedules, as well as updates from Discovery news. Naturally, you’re bound to find something interesting at some point. No worries, said content can be easily shared via an email link generated from within the app. Sweet! Most of the video clips are just that — clips, though the app includes iTunes links to download the full episodes via the iTMS. Still, clip or full episode, this free Discovery Channel app is by far a geek’s best friend. Can you tell I’m excited!?

After spending a mere 30 minutes with it, I can tell you that even over AT&T’s craptactic 3G network, the app is extremely fast with hardly any lag in sight. Flipping through the various shows’ list of videos results in thumbnails that are either already there or appear within a second or two. Definitely a well coded app! It is worth noting that the initial loading time when first firing up the app is roughly 20 seconds long. Hey, if it helps overall navigation through the app itself and keeps slowdowns and freezes from cropping up. Overall, I’m extremely excited about this app. Don’t take my word for it. Give it a try!

smashLAB wins letter of the year award! (Canada)

I love the discovery channel and pretty much every show that they air.  Smash Lab while not my favorite show, I think is still rather entertaining to watch.  However, I must be a minority as many more people have a different opinion.  A small online design and marketing firm in Canada that goes by the name of “smashLAB” wrote a letter to the Discovery Channel blaming them for the continuing loss of business.  Googling “Smash Lab” will bring up article after article combined with reviews bashing the show saying that it “sucks”.  Now, people searching for smashLAB the design firm stumble upon sites bashing the Discovery Channel show and assume them to be the same.  As you can see the Discovery Channel is bad for their business.  So it’s no surprise they wrote a rather colorful letter to Discovery asking them to “suck less”.  Click through to read the letter in its entirety and have a good laugh!
