Next Gen Xbox To Debut At E3 2012, Use DirectX 11, Feature 3D?

  • June 15, 2011 12:04 am

Microsoft’s E3 keynote came and went this year without any new hardware unveiled or even mentioned. Sony followed a similar path. It was Nintendo and Nintendo alone who had some new gear for the gaming world to poke and prod. And even though we certainly see the potential of the Wii U, we see it as more of a catchup to Microsoft and Sony’s current hardware than anything truly groundbreaking. With that said, while Microsoft may have disappointed legions of gamers in 2011, 2012 will be very different if recent claims by VideoGamer.com citing Crysis developer, Crytek, are to be believed…

Sega Executive: “Wii U Will Launch Spring/Summer 2012.”

  • June 13, 2011 8:28 am

Nintendo may not be ready to divulge just when their next-gen console will hit the market, but that isn’t stopping Sega from spilling the beans themselves. During an interview at last weeks E3 trade show, Alan Pritchard, Sega’s executive Vice President of Marketing claimed that Nintendo’s Wii U will be released in the Spring/Summer 2012 time frame.

Seeing as how this came from someone other than Nintendo at a minimum 6 months out, we’re going to go out on a limb and say Pritchard could be a tad off. But hey, rumors make the world go ’round…

Wii U Controllers Won’t Be Sold Separately, Only One Supported At A Time?

  • June 8, 2011 3:58 pm

Nintendo’s E3 keynote was full of pixel punching action with plenty of game previews (despite the fact it the demos showcased PS3 and Xbox variantes) as well as plenty of eye candy of the new Wii U console/hardware. Though we think it goes without saying that the most surprising part of Nintendo’s keynote was the Wii U controller itself which boasts a 6.2″ display and numerous buttons across it’s body. Absent, however, was specific information about the hardware specs, number of Wii U controllers supported — as all the demoes showed only one being used — and pricing for individual Wii U controllers. But the glamor of the fancy Wii U controller and new console could quickly wear off if comments made by a Nintendo rep to CVG turn out to be true…

E3: Nintendo Announces Wii U. HD And Controller With 6.2″ Display Finally Arrive.

  • June 7, 2011 1:26 pm

Nintendo just announced their next-gen Wii U console and controller. While the console itself is exciting and now features the highly sought after “HD” feature, it is the controller that has most intrigued. Hop past the break for the full rundown on the Wii U and it’s gigantor controller…

Blurb — PlayStation Suite To Turn Non-Sony Phones Into “PlayStation Phones”.

  • June 6, 2011 10:16 pm

Details are still scant, but Sony just announced (again) their PlayStation Suite package for Android. The gist is simple: Xperia-like games and environment on non-Xperia “certified” hardware. Simple enough, right? Unfortunately Sony was entirely too light on details at their E3 keynote tonight. Here’s to hoping more is revealed sooner rather than later…

PS Vita Official: Starting At $249 For WiFi-Only Model. Coming Late 2011.

  • June 6, 2011 10:02 pm

The PSP Vita is official! Coming in both WiFi-only and WiFi/3G models ($249 and $299 respectively), the new PlayStation Vita will “blur the lines” of modern gaming and social interaction thanks to a more life like OLED display and a new socially aware “app” called “Near”. Near will alert users to nearby PS Vita users, what games said users are playing, and what games are most popular in any given area.

For U.S.-based 3G-toting Vita users, there is but one choice and one choice only — AT&T. Unknown at this time is how much data plan pricing will be from AT&T. Also unknown — UK users will have to wait a few more weeks for definite carrier partners and pricing.

Stay tuned for the latest on Sony and the PlayStation Vita.

Sony Announces PS3 Specific 3D Monitor And Glasses.

  • June 6, 2011 9:16 pm

Wanted to jump in on the 3D gaming bandwagon but been put off by the high cost of entry which thus far has generally been relegated to the high-end (read: multi-thousand dollar) PC gaming market? You’re in luck. At tonight’s E3 keynote, Sony unveiled a new PS3-branded 24″ 3D monitor (looks like 720p) complete with active shutter spectacles, 6-foot HDMI cable, and one copy of the new games shown off today for a cool $499. Additional 3D glasses will set you back $70.

Considering what you’ll pay on the PC side of things (and with all the hardware and included game), Sony’s bundle isn’t actually half bad.

Microsoft Website Outs E3 Goodes Early: Halo 4 And More!

  • June 6, 2011 10:46 am

Microsoft’s official unveiling of E3 paraphernalia may still be hours away, but thanks to one click-happy employee we are able to get a quick glance at a few things Microsoft has in store. Kotaku’s Mike Fahey managed to snap a pic of the page in question before Microsoft realized their mistake and removed the offending images and links. From their mistakes, however, we now know Halo 4 along with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Kinect Star Wars, Dance Central 2 and several other titles will be debuting at this weeks E3 gaming conference.

Still, we’re sure Microsoft has a few more stunners that we haven’t managed to see yet prepared for their E3 event later today.

Corsair Announces “Carbide” Case Series.

  • June 6, 2011 6:45 am

The E3 news is beginning to trickle out this early am and will eventually grow into a raging torrent of information. With that said, it is Corsair who is kicking off our morning with some new hardware, specially cases. Introducing the new Carbide series.

The 400R hits the market at $99 and features support for dual-radiator watercooling systems (specifically designed for Corsair’s own newly announced H100 closed dual-rad watercooling kit) while also shipping with three included fans (dual 120mm fans in front and one 120mm in the rear) and slick black finish all around. The 500R ups the price to $129 and includes the same dual-rad support while also tossing in a larger 200mm fan on the side panel. Other perks of the 500R include removable hard drive cages to support extra long GPUs up to 452mm in length and a multi-fan controller built into the 500R’s chassis.

Not a bad way to spend up to $130, eh? Images after the break…
