There’s something special when geek and art come together. Some would call Apple the master of such things. But in reality, there are many other talented designers out there who have an eye for geeky art. Take for example, the Optimus Keyboard from Art Lebedev.
Some may cringe, point, and laugh at a nearly $1,000 keyboard. But as is common in the world of art, high fashion comes at a high price. But it’s not just all looks.
All of those keys are actually mini LCD’s that are completely user-customizable. Furthermore, the display bar located near the top of the keyboard can act as a home to several different widgets as well as keyboard functions making this keyboard “the” defacto standard for those who like to control it all.
It’s all very sexy. Though past failures at meeting price plans and release dates coupled with the already stratospheric price tag means CES is the only place I and many other geeks will ever be able to coddle one in our loving arms. *sighs* To dream…
Look for the Optimus Popularis keyboard to drop late this year “for less than $1,000 (read: $999 I’d guess). Larger shot after the jump…

Here at Gadgetsteria, we’ve often highlighted some of the fashion forward and innovative gadgets, gizmos, and all around geeky things that Yenko Design has shown off. The only let down was that often times, the things we saw were so mind enveloping that upon finding out they’re nothing more than a concept with no near-term release we questioned our very existence on earth. Well, ok maybe not that extreme. But you get the point. It’s disheartening stumbling upon that thing you’ve been looking for only to realize it’s forever a dream.
After that long side note, I’m more than pleased to announce that Yenko Design has finally opened up their very own store allowing nerds and geeks from all corners of the earth to come together and partake of some of life’s greatest treasures. The prices are all over the board, though, with such cutting edge and fashionable products did you really expect to make out like a trip to Goodwill? I didn’t think so. It’s about time I upgrade my drool cup. Anyone else feeling the same?

While not necessarily a gadget, many times we’ll look at things that are made from old gadgets as they are usually pretty cool and unique. This is one of those “gadgets”. Whether or not you have a thing for Superman, old phone booths, or even spandex in general, the Payphone Key Bracelet is one twist on old tech that will help you convert your better half into your geeky lover. Really there isn’t much to reveal as the bracelet is pretty self explanatory — old payphone keys are strung together into a bracelet form. Just be sure your sweetie can take the extra weight. These are old metal keys from phones that were built like tanks. Sizing is approximately M/L at 7 and 7/16″ long. Interested geeks can hit up the sellers Etsy shop for more info and lay down the required $62.

WinMo users…this announcement is just for you. If you are a themer and customizer and like to mix things up from time to time, gone are the old days of having to jump through fifty different hoops just to change your stupid wallpaper and a few icons in Windows Mobile OS’s of yore as Microsoft has announced that it is commited to making Windows Mobile more personal. Helping with that quest will be several prominent designers and design houses including the Design Museum London and the Council of Fashion Designers of America. The lucky first designer to be showcased by Microsoft on Windows Mobile 6.5 will be Isaac Mizrahi, fashion designer and television personality. Don’t worry he isn’t the only guy who signed up, more will come around in the next few months ensuring you have an ample selection to choose from.
