Having a flashlight or two in your dwelling place is generally a good safety measure. If the power ever goes out, it’s nice to have some artificial illumination so you don’t go drop kicking furniture with your toes. No matter how drunk or hungover you are, that hurts — bad. You could be like every other human on the planet and pick up a simple Walmart special. Or, you could let your geek shine and pick up a LEGO Dynamo Torch. Besides being ultra geeky, you never have to worry about batteries going bad when you need it most. The LEGO Dynamo uses a hand crank in place of batteries. Exercise and peace of mind, what more could you ask for? Head on over to the Neat Shop and plop down $23.95 for the privilege.
I understand. Weekends can be fun but long. Usually I don’t mind because, well, I’m not at work. But even then, sometimes you just want the weekend to pick up the pace and be entertaining. Is that too much to ask?
If entertainment isn’t easily coming your way, take charge and grab the weekend by the horns — so to speak. The 500-LED mod above is easily the coolest illumination project I can think of in recent memory. Besides being massive (in coolness and physical size), this gargantuan beast is bright with a capital “B”. Even though there are 500 LED’s suckin’ down power, requiring what is sure to be one big battery, just remember that it could be worse. Can you imagine a 500 incandescent based flashlight? Ya, that would suck down some real power. So who’s going to try this one next weekend?
It never fails — any time you reach for that flashlight, often times of urgent matters, you come to find that there isn’t a single electron inside willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good. That lack of guiding light is depressing, frustrating, and sometimes dangerous. That’s where Mpower’s innovative new flashlight come in handy.
Designed by Porche Design Studio, the mPower light features two compartments — one for the normal replaceable batteries we’re all familiar with and a second compartment for a new type of *insert battery info*. The big draw (no pun intended) of this secondary battery is that it has an incredible shelf life — a full 10 years!
When you find yourself out of juice and need light quick, simply turning the knob on the end of the *insert battery info* and get ready for up to 2 hours of bright shining goodness.
The picture doesn’t really do it justice. The rep we spoke with quoted 120 lumens for the LED. I know LED’s are bright and all, but wow. It will blind you. Even shining it on the ceiling of the hall some 30 feet above in a brightly lit room was no match for the LED as you could still easily see a fairly concentrated beam of light. Impressive.
How would you like to have the added peace of mind knowing that when you need a flashlight to work, the Emergency Illuminator won’t ever fail you? Flashlights of yesterday required big “C” or “D” sized batteries that were heavy, bulky, and expensive. But the Emergency Illuminator by mPower isn’t your ordinary flashlight. Even the dual mode battery power feature isn’t that hi-tech. What causes it to gain that techie “future” medal is the long running, sealed battery. We’ll start by saying it isn’t rechargeable. What?! A flashlight battery that’s sealed and can’t be recharged? *Pats you on shoulder* Remember, this sealed battery can go 20 years. Mind you, this doesn’t mean that you can leave it on for 20 years around the clock and expect it to last. Instead, most people have flashlights that sit unused for years at a time. Normal batteries eventually lose their charge over such spans of time. The EI does not. In case you still wanted to kick it old school, the flashlight does as mentioned before have a space for traditional batteries as well.
To entice the true gadget fiends, the EI slips in one other nifty feature — USB charging. If you’re not going to buy a flashlight to use for emergencies or whatever else it is you use flashlights for, why not buy one solely to be a mobile gadget charging station? Somehow I don’t think very many are going to drop $250 on a mobile charging station/flashlight. But the added benefit of that spur of the second charging is hard to pass up don’t you agree?
Unfortunately we’ll have to wait until next year to try this beaut out. Even though it’s designed more as a long shelf life type battery/light, I’m curious as to how long it would run non-stop…
We’ve all had times where we were trying to grab that last gummy bear underneath the seat but just can’t quite see where your paw is grabbing. Sure, you could use one of those little keychain lights. But those require batteries that you have to change all of the time. You can also use a bigger flashlight that could be seen from space. Though, those also take large batteries that over time are costly to replace. Why should you even have to replace batteries? Take your old flashlight and throw it in the trash because the 12v Spotlight will be the last light you ever have to get.
Since money is tight and gas prices are on the rise again, many people who haven’t already are turning to the old yet reliable (and cheap) two-wheeled bicycle. Nothing lets you feel the wind in your hair and the sense of accomplishment more than a 25 mile bike ride to work, school, or play. The only problem is that time tends to crawl when riding your bike as it takes a slightly longer amount of time to get from point A to point B. MP3 players and headphoens remedy this situation, though, can often put you in less than happy situations. For example, if you’re jamin’ out to the Dubie Brothers and a truck sneaks up behind you…you see where this is going. Thankfully Lavod cares for the pedal powered bikers of the world and shows it with their Lavod Bike Speaker.
If you are a person who loves the dark or simply needs a nice and efficient flashlight to light you way in lifes darker hours, the “Light for Life” should be given a serious look no matter what your profession. Do you ever tire of flash light bulbs burning out or always fumbling with those gargantuan sized D batteries only to have them last an hour? If any of these sounds like you, the Light for Life will surely be a personal savior. First off, instead of old, inefficient, and hot running incandescent bulbs, the LFL uses 3 *bright* 250 lumen LED’s to show the way. But what makes the LFL really cool is that it is completely void of any battery. You may be asking, “Um…how does it store any energy to light up?” Good question! The light up juice is actually “stored” by using a combination of super-capacitors and high tech computer circuitry dubbed “FlashPoint Technology”. The final cherry on top is that it takes a mere 90 seconds to fill up this handy little light maker providing you with up to 90 minutes of continuous illumination! 90 seconds for 90 minutes sounds like a pretty awesome turn around if you ask me. Ladies and gentlemen, we have reached the next frontier in flash light technology. Excited? Company “press release/info” inside.
