Be the envy of the office and geek crowd alike: The iMac G4 Lamp.

  • February 10, 2010 2:07 pm

Need another Mac inspired gadget/piece of furniture/custom electronic to really set the tone and prove to the world you’re no ordinary geek? Right, onward then. A few days back we mentioned the iBook G4 clock,a nifty little piece of custom work in that it made use of an old iBook for it’s parts. This “recycling” of sorts makes the planet a little less polluted and of course makes whomever owns an iBook G4 clock a lot nicer to look at. It’s a win win for everyone. But what if you want more geeky custom gadgets strewn about your home or office?

That’s where the iMac G4 lamp comes in. This lamp, made from a recycled iMac G4 (duh), features a minimalistic yet visually simulating form that begs to be included in your office front and center. Buying one pre-made from Etsy will set you back $125. It’s a little steep for a lamp. Though this isn’t your typical lamp nor are spare parts for building said lamp readily (or cheaply) available. I think it’s worth the price for a bit of added geek image, don’t you?

The iBook G4 Clock.

  • February 6, 2010 10:17 am

It’s the weekend. Time to relax right? Right! So how about a little more light hearted reading? Or maybe you’re looking for a small weekend project to keep you occupied? Well, I’m going to kill two birds with one stone here: The iBook G4 Clock.

If you’ve got an old iBook G4 sitting around or you know where to pick one up cheap, ripping out the internals and turning it into something a bit more useful in the age of Macbook Pros and quad-core mobile processors seems just about right.

If you’re not into the whole “weekend project” type of thing you’re in luck. Someone is doing the work for you and asking a small $75 fee for the trouble. If you’re intrigued, that someone goes by the name “pixelinfo” and can be found selling the iBook G4 Clock over on her Etsy page. Have at it.

Yeeeeooop. It’s a slow news day. How about some light hearted reading. A picture is worth a thousand words, so I’ll just let it do the talking. Feeling crafty?

Scour the digital and analog streets with the PowerMac G4 Bike

  • October 24, 2009 10:14 am

Taking gadgets, old gadgets in particular, and creating new forms of art, machinery, and all out geekery is something that when executed correctly results in utter beauty. In the case of this modded PowerMac G4 Bike, it may not be beautiful in the traditional sense, though the fact that it draws your gaze upon its body and sucks you in ever deeper means something does it not? While this Mac went back in time, no longer to surf the digital streets, (as the innards are now occupied by a 49cc motor), this highlights one of those moments in life where analog is perfectly A OK with me. I don’t have a space desktop to just gut and go modder on, but if I did…
