After countless delays, setbacks, and missed deadlines, Garmin M20 to come with WinMo 6.5. M20 relevance starts shrinking…NOW

  • November 11, 2009 3:12 pm

m20You would think that after numerous missed deadlines and broken promises, a company such as Garmin who has been hyping up their Nuvifone offerings for well over a year now would have something that would truly drop our collective jaws. Sadly, with the latest announcement of all new Nuvifone M20′s dropping Garmin’s proprietary OS in favor of WinMo 6.5, a grim painting is starting to form on this once great concept. This is but one example of how a perfect idea on paper can falter and become a sad disappointment once it materializes.

Those of you who picked up an M20 before this decree went out can will be able to pick up the WinMo 6.5 download for free (some saving grace I guess.) The countries named that are to receive the new Windows love include Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Czech, Turkey as well as “elsewhere by the close of 2009″. Strange that the western world is left out of the loop though not the first time we’ve had to sit back and watch our fellow Eastern geeks receive such lavish attention.

It may seem sad that some will miss out on the 6.5 love fest. But if you’re like me, an “upgrade” to WinMo 6.5 is anything but. Where do you stand?

Garmin nuvifone G60 finally coming to market. AT&T smiles with glee. October 4th your date.

  • September 29, 2009 9:12 am

g60We can finally see it. The Garmin nuvifone G60 is finally coming to market. These two years have been full of disappointment after disappointment and one delayed release announcement after another — not exactly the most expedited as you can see. However, put any ill will behind you and get your geek radar ready. Starting October 4th, AT&T will carry the nuvifone G60 and bring to market one of the most delayed handsets to date…anywhere. The specs are widely known by now leaving only a couple things left release date, which we have already covered, and price. $299 for two years of your life after a mail-in rebate is used. One other point worth mentioning, any super cool features and services such as “Premium Connected Services” including weather updates, traffic info, etc., expect to shell out more money to the tune of $5.99/month after the 30 day trial period runs it’s course. Now, whether or not you’ll be able to share your new geo tagged photos or even make a call on “America’s most reliable network” is another thing. Not to mention, considering this phone was top-o-the-line in late 2007/early 2008 specs, does it even stand a chance as we look at 2010 starring at us from not to far across the calendar? Is anyone excited about the G60 or has this ship come and gone from your port already?
