For the Chilean miners whom are finally seeing the light of day after 70 days 1/2 mile underground, simply walking in the light is enough of a gift. Besides surviving a mine collapse and being reunited with their families, a third bout of luck is on the miners’ way. LeFigaro is reporting that Apple CEO Steve Jobs himself will be personally gifting the rescued miners their very own iPods. For a man (and a company) literally swimming in cash, giving away a dozen or two iPods is an atom of a drop in a bucket. Nevertheless, it’s a nice gesture by Jobs and shows how uncommonly compassionate he can be.
As of writing, the actual iPod model to be gifted is not known. But fear not, we’ve shot an email off to Apple and are awaiting a response. Honestly though, any free Apple product is impressive enough.
Ever find yourself looking at the $500 lens on your $5800 camera, wishing you could poor liquid goodness deep down inside and carry it around as a “custom” mug, showing off the true nerd lifestyle you long to live? Ya, not so much, do ya? But what if someone went through the trouble of making a mug that looked like some expensive photography equipment? Might be a little more welcoming huh? Apparently photographers shooting it up at the Olympics in Vancouver were given some pretty sweet shwag — 70-200mm camera lens coffee mugs.
Similar trinkets have appeared here and there over the years, but no major company or manufacturer has ever really gotten behind such projects and actually marketed them. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure there would be a decent following willing to pick up a few lens mugs. What better way to simultaneously freak out a buddy/co-worker and look like the real geek you are? Canon/Nikon/Konica/everyone else…are you listening?

Feeling like getting your sweetie something different this year for Valentines Day and don’t want to cave to the stereotypical Valentines Day gift? Perhaps you just like to be different no? There’s certainly nothing wrong with that. While everyone gets all hung up on being sweet and giving sugary gifts that are supposed to convey soft, unbinding love, you can sucker punch that general stereotype straight in the face with a heart-shaped “Valentines Day pizza. Besides being a gadget aficionado, chocolate also ranks up there on my list of “loves”. With that out of the way, have you ever wondered what an HTC Hero would look like if it were transformed into a block of chocolate? Psh, forget how it looks, I’m more concerned with how it tastes. Too bad I’m not a member of the EnglishRussia blog as it seems HTC is feeling all sweet and gift happy towards them, sending them Choco-fied HTC Heros.
The reasoning behind the mysterious edibles is unknown at this point. According to the blog above, it was a “New Year” type of thing. For what it’s worth, they came old school via messenger delivery — a nice personal touch. If it was HTC getting all personal and down to earth, I have to ask: Where’s my HTC Hero Chocolate Bar?
