While Microsoft’s dominant position on the browser market has been the un-toppable empire, the age of IE is finally (and thankfully) starting to come to an end. Over across the pond in Europe, Microsoft now has to include other options in Windows installs for browser downloads. However, stateside here we’re taking a slightly different approach. Since there aren’t any legal boundaries here, manufacturers are taking a different approach. Sony announced today plans to include Google’s Chrome browser on all Viao computers. However, it’s worth noting that IE will still be included.
While it may not seem like a big deal, having Google Chrome as an aditional browsing option is huge. A good deal of the market who buy computers don’t do anything to customize their environments or download 3rd party applications such as other browsers. They use what is provided to them — the same tactic that more or less gave Microsoft and IE the dominating market share for so many years. Now that Google has a leg up with Sony, are we going to see more deals follow along these lines? Could we even see IE sink further into irrelevance? God…I sure hope so…

Minor mixup perhaps? If you’re a Google Chrome user and just so happen stumble upon Google Toolbar eager to try out the screen real estate properties, you’re going to find yourself pretty bummed out and if you happen to have a tail…prepare to have it hanging low and center. While it isn’t a big deal in the slightest, the fact that two Google products don’t work together is rather humerus. As this little image and story spreads, expect Google to fix the issue rather quickly. But for now, it’s worth a good laugh. Bigger image below.

The little browser that everyone had high hopes for and hyped up has done just “ok” if usage numbers are taken into account. However, for a techie like me, Chrome has proven to be a fast reliable browser that I use daily. Good news for all Chrome users out there as Chrome has been given a new badge called “2.0 beta”. In actuallity the change is that big that it needs a completely new version number but I digress. What you will notice immediately upon browsing is the noticeably faster browsing speeds…25-35% faster to be exact. On a side note…Chromium for Linux gets a tad easier to use as you can now just use “get-apt” instead of the lengthy process of before. And Mac users are still waiting…. So if you are a Chrome junkie nows the time to get your fix like never before.
