Nexus One pricing leaked! $530 without contract. $180 with 2-year T-Mo deal.

  • December 29, 2009 9:18 pm

In the market for a new smartphone — an Android smartphone in particular lacking any physical keyboard? If so, the Nexus One has no doubt been on your radar. “THE” Google/Android phone to have. We’ve seen the specs over and over as well as blurry video after blurry video with a few clear ones here and there meticulously detailing the hardware and Android 2.1. Awesome. We already know about all of that. The biggest question, the question of price, has so far been elusive — until now.

In a rush? $180/2-year Tmo plan and $530/unsubsidized.

For those with a few minutes to spare…

Subsidized

  • $180: 2-year T-Mo plan required. Specifically the $39.99 Even More + Text + Web plan which comes in at $79.99 when everything is said and done.
  • **It’s interesting to note that you must use the plan highlighted above. You cannot receive the Nexus One subsidized and keep any current single line plan. You’ll have to stomach a new plan to get that shiny new phone.
  • **Also important, users on Family plans, Flexpay, SmartAccess and KidConnect plans are completely SOL — as in you aren’t eligible for subsidized pricing no matter what you do.
  • If you break contract before 120 days pass, you’ll either have to pay the remainder of the subsidy (roughly $350) or return the phone to Google. Think about it folks.

Unsubsidized

  • $530: Looking to go it alone? Unsubsidized price will be a couple bucks higher…obviously

Other Stuff

  • Up to 5 Nexus Ones can be purchased per Google account

So what do you think? With the all the info we already know and this almost certain pricing information now available, does Google even need to hold a press event on the 5th? And if you’re one of many that are sure to be readying their forms of payment, which option are you going with: A 2-year (or at least 121 day) love fest on T-Mobile or a single, dry shaving, unsubsidized approach?

Nexus One opens up for a few more shots. Full frontal spread entices…

nexus-one-frontRegardless if you feel the Nexus One is the almighty “Google Phone” that lives on both sides of the “it does/doesn’t exist fence”, one thing is for sure — it’s hot. The Snapdragon processor and WVGA 3.7″ OLED display are drool worthy, equalling up to the most hotly anticipated Android device yet. (Droid it was nice being on top while it lasted). The carrier free w/ T-Mo buddy app is a nice touch, and rumors of a Google provided subsidy round out some of the more notable and interesting facts known so far.

Word on the streets say the Nexus One will have a CDMA variant — so far such a device has been going by “Dragon” or “Passion”. The Nexus One is rumored to drop in early January roughly the same time as Verizon’s next top-o-the-line Android device. The writing is pretty clearly written on the wall. The Nexus One isn’t only going to T-Mobile…

Who’s picking one up and/or switching to do so? We just gotta know…

Google Phone’s on again/off again relationship with our souls…

google-phoneFor every site you find on the internet telling of a so called “Google Phone” — the ultimate Android phone according to Google’s own tastes — one can find just as many if not more sites debunking such rumors with the most popular reasoning being that Google would hurt 3rd party partners. Because of this, we’ll never see a Google Phone straight from Google. They don’t make hardware. Or do they? Gizmodo received a hot tip that points even harder to Google releasing a slab of hardware on their own. So what exactly would a Google inspired phone look like? Hard to say. But hardware isn’t everything anymore.

With that said, this gPhone won’t just sport new hardware but new software as well. According to Giz’s sources, this uber Android phone will run a version of Android that makes even 2.0 look like child’s play. Of course, this is under the assumption that we’ve been dealing with the “real” Android so far. Not so according to the source, claiming the “real” Android has yet to show it’s face.

Interesting stuff indeed. While I generally am pleased with most of the Android hardware, I have yet to see one that leaves me speechless and eager to drop untold amounts of cash on — Droid included. HTC generally has pretty high build quality on their devices and previous rumors speculated that a gPhone had a high probability of being developed and manufactured by HTC. My personal wish is for another touchscreen + physical keyboard device much like the G1, except in a form not as goofy and straining on the hands.

Rampant speculation and giddiness aside, if we did see an HTC based “Google Phone”, I can honestly say that I would be excited and fairly certain that it would be rock solid. As far that mystery build of Android it’s said to be packin’ — future goodies and all — well, I can hardly wait. Think there’s any sliver of hope Google would “step on their 3rd party/supporters’ backs by kicking out their vision of what the pinnacle of Android devices should be? Or could we say that Google is merely trying to bump up competition a notch or two?

Android invading Touch Diamond!

android-touch-diamond-1

Android is making a mad dash since release and taking many other devices with it!  Since release it has started to be ported to at least 3-4 devices.  Most recently the Touch HD and now Touch Diamond.  I’m not going to sugar coat anything or try to hide the fact that I like Apple, OS X, iPhones, etc.  However, I also really like Android.  It is a very promising OS that the iPhone and mobile OS X could learn from (I know I’m dreaming).  Back on subject, Windows Mobile is probably one of my least favorite mobile OS for many reasons.  A few of those reasons are that its god awful to navigate and use, looks 5 years old (because it is, pretty a new wallpaper and some pretty buttons doesn’t gain the rights to be called an “update”), and crashes all the time.  *I used to have Tilt*.  The Touch Diamond is a very nice looking device from HTC that suffers only from the software running on it.  That is where the Android developers come in.  They have been able to port over Android onto the Touch Diamond, however its not quite there yet.  For instance, the phone can not be woken up after the display goes to sleep, the keyboard constantly appears blocking the task you’re actually trying to accomplish and a few other minor features such as no voice or data.  Again *minimal* things.  Once the developers work out the kinks, the Touch Diamond will surely be one awesome device with the looks of the device itself and the functionality of Android!
