Some call it addiction, some call it passion. Whatever you call it, the Steampunk genre of gadget modding has a loyal following no less. We’ve some pretty determined and unique creations pass by here. But the Victorian Organ Command Desk that resides in Bruce and Melanie Rosenbaum’s house looks to be the best and most complete ‘punkified mod of a gadget I’ve seen yet. (Of course, I say that every time…) But this particular mod is but one small part of an overall bigger picture — The Steampunk House. Yes, their entire house is tweaked to turn back the pages of time back a couple centuries.
If you’re on a tight budget (and don’t kid me, we’ve all been there), normal everyday activities such as going to the movie theater become nothing more than a dream. For without the required paper money, they won’t let you in. Finding yourself in this predicament is an unfortunate one for sure. It’s at down times like these, creativity flourishes as people have more time to devote to hobbies or side projects. In lieu of the aforementioned words, why not take it upon yourself to mercilessly maim two birds with one napalm launcher and be crafty and entertained.
Today, I’m going to introduce you to the iPhone Theater. Recreating this little wonder by yourself requires very little actually — an iPhone, a box, some patience, and of course some spare time. In the end, missing out on the real theater experience is something that can’t really be recreated in your home — at least not cost effectively, and that’s why we’re even talking about making your own theater in the first place. Thankfully, the iPhone Theater in a box can at the very least, help you pass the time and give at least the front row of viewers a decent picture. Impressed?
I personally don’t have the patience for too many crafty hobbies. Even though I can surely look ahead to how good the finished product will make me feel, I still get held up in the present, thinking about how long it could/would take me to finish said hobby. While I may have my own patience issues, I can certainly enjoy the fruits of someone else’s extensive efforts. Case in point: The *literal* Paper Mario motion picture, stop motion picture that is.
A crafty young fellow on YouTube who goes by “Smartkid82504″ put together a 300 frame Mario Bros. stop motion movie for an Art and Alternative Media course at Boston College. 36 hours after the idea’s conception, Smartkid82504 was rockin’ his new stop motion movie for the whole world to see. Heck, even 36 hours is a long haul for me. What can I say, I’m easily distracted. Enough small talk. Give the vid below a looksie and let us know what you think.
If you thought your were clever or technologically relevant with your modded to the teeth home PC, step aside and let a true geek/modder step forward. A Finnish resident must have been bored several days in a row and decided to push the limits of miniaturization and ingenuity. Just how did he accomplish this feet? Simple, he took an old Mobira Talkman cell phone kit and stuffed a complete Windows Media Center PC into it. More info, pics, and a movie right inside.
