Today I get to talk about something that combined two of my favorite things in life: my iPhone 4S and beer. Yes my friends, beer. Opena is the World’s first iPhone 4/4S case that has a built in slide out bottle opener. What once was only a glimmer in the eyes of two Aussies; Rob Ward and Chris Peters, and what started out as a Kickstarter project is now protecting iPhones and getting those people drunk at the same time.
We put the Opena case to some vigorous tests this past week and painfully had to down numerous (and I mean numerous) beers in the process. Will the Opena do a spot on job at protecting your iPhone 4? Will it also easily open that tasty IPA of yours without having to carry another bottle opener? We answered these questions and got kinda tipsy in the process after the break.
Well, it is now 12:50am and I just finished. I don’t know if I’ve hit command+R so many times in my life. It took the Apple Store until around 12:40am or so to finally quit displaying the Sticky Note and the Service Unavailable error.
It was a long night, but we finally got our phone reserved? How did it go for all of you? I did notice Verizon’s website up for pre-order way before any other site. Sprint seemed to be the next site that had the pre-order button. AT&T is still dragging their feet and as of writing this they still aren’t up for some action. The Apple site was the 3rd slowest.
Was it smoother for any of you out there? Drop on in and leave your evening in the comments
iPhone 4 owners, and well, I guess those of you picking up an iPhone 4S (since the design is the same!!!), how about some interesting protection for that nifty little device? We’ve got 3 groovy cases to giveaway, and boy how we know how much you all like iPhone cases! We’ve seen so many cases over the years that sometimes it feels they all run together, but every once in a while we’ll see something that catches our eye. That is exactly what id America has done with the Cushi Robotics cases, and we’re giving you the chance to score some on us!
Hop on in for the run down and a few pictures!

This latest rumor comes from the best of the bunch. Apple employees are probably some of the brightest people I’ve known. iPhone prototypes have been lost, and lost again. They’ve even given away an external harddrive containing internal documents and materials. So obviously when they speak – we listen. The New York times had the privilege of talking with one of Cupertino’s finest who gives us a bit of low down on Apple’s latest iMiracle.
We’re just weeks away from the announcement of the new Apple iPhone 5, according to an Apple employee who asked not to be named because he was not allowed to speak publicly for the company.
BGR posted some interesting case pics today of what could possibly be the newest iPhone. Showing off some some nice curves, this could very well be the latest design. With the rumors piling up on whether we’ll see an iPhone 4S featuring the same design with the upgrades being internal, or an upgraded iPhone showcasing a completely new design – it’s hard to tell where it’ll all land. With Case-Mate quickly taking the pictures down, that only adds fuel to the fire.
The source within Apple says the iPhone will sport the 8 megapixel camera as well as the coveted A5 bbq chip. He also states that the iPhone 5 will be “fairly different‘ from the iPhone 4.
I personally don’t care much at this point. I am hoping for a design change. I wasn’t happy to have the same for 2 years with the 3G/3GS. The speed upgrade was nice, but that same design got old. I like some fresh meat in my hands. We’ll see if these latest rumors stack up against the rest – hopefully in a few weeks!
*Update* The auction has been dropped back down to 100k, it seems either someone’s child was going trigger happy with mouse clicks, or some drunk patriot somewhere didn’t realize what he had done until his wife beat him over the head with an empty beer bottle – either way, $100,000 is a little bit more in my price range!
If you remember the fun the internets was having around almost 15 months ago with the hardware leak / Gizmodo-Gray Powell incident – you might be interested in the story as of the last couple hours. It seems that an extremely early build of the iPhone 4 has found its way onto the interwebs via eBay. With just over a week left, we are currently sitting at US $999,999.00 – which is actually a jump from 106k that it was when I first typed the letter I in ‘If’ at the beginning of this post. I highly doubt the buyer will come through and fork over the cool million for this little baby – unless it’s Steve Jobs buying it back, or a big wig over at Samsung sticking it to em! We’ll see what the next 7d and 19 hours has in store for this beauty – or if we just see a re-listing come a no show with the money. As you can see from the picture, you’ll see a little ‘DF1692′ – this is the prototypes original owner – someone who probably might not have a job after the Holiday weekend!
Hop on past to see the sellers description and to possibly even buy this thing for us to store at the GS headquarters!
Besides a slew of developer support, there’s one big thing the iPhone has going for it — cases. There’s literally too many to count (or even keep track of for that matter). While we’ve all likely heard of the bigger names in iPhone accessories including but certainly not limited to Speck, Incipio, SwitchEasy, Griffin, Incase, and iFrogz, there’s a slew of more obscure companies all lunging for your attention and hard earned dollar. More times than not, the products be these lower-priced competitors are decent, though ultimately come away looking and feeling cheap. Every once in a while, however, we’re surprised.
Will the iPhone 4 Case + Holster combo from Wireless Ground impress us in quality and price? Hop inside to find out.

At first, news of no new iPhone unlocks coming until after iOS 4.3 (still many weeks away) dampen an otherwise lovely Friday. But if we look at the bigger picture, it’s a good thing. Releasing a new jailbreak/hack/unlock now would give Apple time to squeeze in a fix. And no body wants that. Time to play the waiting game again…

Since the dawn of modern digital technology, it’s been known that water and electrons are not friends. When delicate electronics are involved, this incompatibility is even more pronounced. And yet, we as humans encounter such scenarios and even encourage it day after day. Though mobile phones in particular are one device that could benefit the most from water resistant properties.
With that said, there have been a few waterproof cases for phones released in the last few years. However, none of them have been all that useful. But most importantly, the waterproof cellphone cases made up until this point have been designed for phones which rely on physical buttons for input. In the age of the touchscreen, they simply don’t work. So how do you design a watertight case that also allows functional interaction with a touchscreen?
DryCASE has the answer…

The wait for the hallowed white iPhone 4 is almost over. The above signage is apparently going up in Apple stores around the country, and most notably includes verbiage that says “Coming Spring 2011″ next to said iPhone color — white. While we were told back in October after the nth delay that spring was the next target, having actual proof is always reassuring.
It’s kind of funny when you think about it — the entire tech media world has been captivated by a simple color hue on a plastic casing for a phone…
