Geek’s paradise “ThinkGeek” gets C&D from National Pork Board over April Fools Joke, Canned Unicorn meat…

  • June 23, 2010 9:28 am

Of all the things someone could send a C&D over, fantasy creature meat is one thing I never thought I’d see. But that’s exactly what happened to ThinkGeek. Back on April Fools day, they showed off (an obvious joke) their Canned Unicorn Meat with the slogan: “The Other White Meat”. But of course, the National Pork Board (whom no body gives a damn about) didn’t respond with laughter and jest, and instead sent a 12-page long C&D to TG instead. Never mind the fact this same incompetent collection of idiots (read: Pork Board) have publicly stated that they’re phasing out the old saying — “The other white meat” — anyway.

In good humor though, Think Geek is taking the bad and turning it into something good by way of a sale. Starting today and running through June 30th, 2010, enter “PORKBOARD” at checkout regardless of the item to net yourself $10 off purchases totaling $40 or more.

Yet another example of a non-issue being turned into a seemingly massive problem and having the offended party shoot themselves in the foot — as now, millions of people will see how utterly ridiculous the Pork Board actually is. And last but not least, lawyers wonder why no one takes them seriously…

Take a gander at the first page of the Pork Board C&D after the jump…

Ferdinand Porsche GTR3 “Pedal-Powered” Edition…

  • May 30, 2010 10:24 am

Oooo la la, a Porsche. Hold your horses folks. Looking past the garish blingity bling gold wrapping, you’re left wondering who the hell would destroy an exotic car as expensive as the GTR3. But looks can be deceiving as you are actually looking at the world’s slowest Porsche. It’s not because the engine is too small, lacking displacement or refinement. In actuality, the “engine” is quite crude. Nothing but a few pedals and sheer human determination. Have a laugh after taking the plunge…

Verizon: “We’re available in 220+ countries”. World: Uhhh, there’s only 196…if you’re lucky.

  • April 15, 2010 10:58 am

It never ceases to amaze me how a company will stoop to lying and deceptive measures to make themselves look bigger and better than the competition. While Verizon is currently on the higher end of my list of consumer friendly carriers, they’re certainly not a stranger to the opposite end of things as many of you know. But this post isn’t being crafted to rag on a new anti-consumer policy. Instead, it’s actually pretty comedic. Who doesn’t like a good laugh, right?

So here it goes…

As much as I’ve ragged on Windows in the past, if you cut through a lot of the crap, false accusations, and “problems” that ended up being more user error, you have to admit Windows 7 is actually a pretty decent OS. In lands other than ours where gadgets are much more prevalent (Japan), sometimes smaller “mom and pop” or novelty shops spring up. One such shop can be seen above.

The characters “?? (binbo)” are literally translated into meaning “poor”. Making sense of all the symbols above comes out to roughly, “cheap computers”. Windows always does like to push their value/lower price argument. Looks like it’s working somewhere. Funny?

The face of IE 6 in 2010 and beyond…

  • February 24, 2010 11:46 am

Ok ok, I know. You’re thinking another IE 6 joke/rant. Well, this one is actually quite funny and doesn’t really need much else. (**See picture below) Simply put, IE6′s web standards compliance are so lacking, (and terrible at what they do manage to muster in support these days) that it will take a pretty face such as subject 1 (top) and turn it into subject 2 (not top). In real life, it’s not quite that drastic — to a human face anyway. Either way, the geek in you should find this at least mildly amusing. Am I right?

The xPhone will decimate all mobile devices! [Video]

  • December 9, 2009 9:14 am

xphoneHaving as many things as you can think of crammed into one device seems like a gift from above. But often times, such gadgets often suffer from “jack of all trades, master of none” syndrome in that no single feature stands out for being amazing. A phone stuffed with a bajillion mediocre features is far from exciting and in fact quite frustrating and disappointing. Thankfully we can always dream about the “xPhone” — a do it all, no compromises mobile device that fits everything inside. Hell, the kitchen sink might even be in there somewhere. We joke now, but someday such spoofs will be more reality than we can even fathom. In essence, the video and the creator do a good job highlighting how at times, we nerd scan be a bit impractical and silly when feature support is concerned.

As for the xPhone, I say bring it on. Though I don’t think I’d lose too much sleep if the VHS option was left out. I haven’t touched one of those in years. Anyway, the day I can whip out my 30″ iMac from a case the size of a stick of gum is the day I can claim to truly have seen it all. What’s your digital drug?

Facebook, dead beat friends, and friending your dad can have undesired consequences… [Humor]

facebook-bust

Last week we had the happy tale of the extra social bride and groom and today we have a slightly less stellar but equally happy (for us…the ones who get to point and laugh) social networking moment. Remember kids, if you friend parents, teachers, other important figures who have power over you, perhaps it’s a wise thing to refrain from insults and other insulting comments directed towards them. At the very least, delete the comments calling your mom/step mom a hooker. Sadly, this isn’t the first account of someone letting slip some personal feelings about their boss, family members, or friends, and forgetting that the entire world can see. Lack of common sense on their part with a healthy dose of humor on ours. Is it bad to laugh at other peoples’ lapse of common sense?

F your smartphone. No really! [iPhone Art]

  • November 24, 2009 1:54 pm

fuck-your-smartphoneWe could try all day to express our feelings of anger, disgust, and outright hate by “talking it out” or using other means. But why do all of that nonsense when a simple “fuck” is all that is really needed? Think you have it bad for that smartphone of yours? The owner of this iPhone obviously had some anger problems. It isn’t so bad though. Instead of punching kittens and killing fish he decided to go the verbal route and use one of the most versatile and colorful words contained within the confines of the human language. The creators precision and use of color and ingenuity is brilliant. Bravo good chap, bravo.

Looking for ways to tweet? Mount a coffee cup to your car roof…

  • November 19, 2009 5:13 pm

roofcoffeecupI don’t know about you, but when I see a clever usage of Twitter whether it’s a tweeting beer keg or a tweeting cat, I find myself smiling and realizing the overall joys in life are small, nerdy, and just plain innovative. Innovative isn’t what some would call “GitEmSteveDave’s” crazy Coffee-on-a-car contraption with other honorable mentions being “dumb”, “stupid”, “retarded”, etc. I have a sense of humor and practice using it every day. It appears Steve has one too as the picture above shows his hobby — finding ways to tweet about things. And so the “RoofCoffeeCup” was born.

The gist is straightforward. He took a simple coffee cup and used two powerful magnets (pacemaker users beware!) to keep the cup from sliding, falling, or rolling off of his roof. See, easy as pie (never did quite understand that). After the painless install, he simply drives around and watches peoples’ reactions and tweets them accordingly. So far he’s had 13 honks, 5 along side riders, 4 double takes, 3 points, 3 stoplight tells, 2 laughs, 2 mimes, 1 flash, 1 wave, and 1 cute girl taking his picture.

Might I add that last one is reason enough to mount a paper cup to your roof… If you find his idea inspiring and would like to try it out for yourself, make sure to tweet all incidences and reactions on Twitter with the #RoofCoffeeCup hash tag.
