Early HTC Dragon build leaked. Dragon to bring 1GHz speed and all around awesomness to Android?

  • October 5, 2009 7:08 am

Rumors. How we love them, hope for their transgression into reality, and ultimately finding a heavenly slice of life when they do so. So far, I haven’t seen a single Android handset that makes me want to cough up money to cancel my contract and buy new hardware. Don’t get me wrong, I love Android and can’t wait to make the switch. It’s just that the hardware is lacking. While 528 MHz was fast a couple years ago and still actually is fast, it’s not that fast anymore. With the 1GHz HTC Leo unfortunately going the WinMo route, Android hopefuls who are still waiting for their “savior” are hungry for what could be.

The “could be” will soon “be” as some extremely lucky XDA developers, Reignzone being one, somehow got their hands on an experimental HTC build. You know where this is leading.

Motorola Sholes in the flesh

While I could go on and on with senseless ramblings and other useless banter, just taking a minute to stop and really take in what is above you right now is more important. We’ll leave on a good note by saying that the upcoming Android love on Verizon has a very nice home on the Sholes. *Picks up drool cup*

Nokia Erdos looks shiny, packs a punch, carrying a Silver Bullet moniker?

Anyone ready for a “Silver Bullet”? And I’m not talking about alcohol either. Leaked shots of a new Nokia handset titled the “Erdos”/Silver Bullet are starting to surface showing basically what appears to be a redesigned and freshened up Nokia 8800. While the 8800 was just so-so, the Erdos appears to be at least a tad more interesting with a vertical slider design, 5 megapixel camera, and 8 GB of non-expandable internal memory. Oh, and of course it looks kind of like a bullet made of silver. The device is claimed to made of a particular metal which “could be marketed as bullet silver” or, for less PR fluffed terms “stainless steel”. Exciting stuff huh? One cool feature however is the screen which retains a mirrored, silvery finish when off only to become transparent when the user interacts with the phone thereby activating the screen. Nifty to say the least though hardly a deciding feature in purchasing a phone. Want more specs? Take a second and read on…

  • Display: 2.4″ OLED 16m color QVGA 320 x 240
  • Wireless: WSCDMA bands I + VIII, GSM — 900/1800/1900
  • Other Connectivity: WLAN/AGPS/High Speed USB
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • Camera: 5 megapixel Carl Zeizz camera w/ Auto-focus and dual LED flash
  • Video:
  • Video Performance: 288 x 352 @ 30 fps — 480 x 640 @ 15 fps
  • Internal Storage: 8 GB internal memory
  • Availability: October 2009

As you can see, nothing to write home about. Is anyone disappointed that Nokia keeps churning out device after device with ho-hum hardware and software? Where’s the innovation?! Time to move on to the next handset I guess…

3rd Party SkyFire BlackBerry browser leaked

  • July 27, 2009 12:37 pm

skyfire

Add this to the top of your “gotta check out when I get home” download lists: SkyFire. But wait, I thought that was a closed beta and not even slated for public release anytime soon? Well, you be right. However a helpful/deceitful beta tester has let loose one of the most coveted programs to date so that all BlackBerry users may take any early bite of what is claimed to be one of the best 3rd party browsers to grace the Canadian born device.

The original link has already stopped working. For now, you can get SkyFire here until this link is also nuked. Better hurry!

**Update**. Hurry or not, any attempts to use your ill gotten bounty are now squashes. A statement from SkyFire has made it painfully clear that they weren’t happy by stating that the servers responsible for all of the data crunching will be temporarily off line until a newer alpha is released in a few weeks. Hope the few hours you outlaws had was fun. :)

Palm Pre now on Verizon! [Illegitimately]

  • July 10, 2009 11:21 am

pre-verizon

The Palm Pre is considered by many as the one thing that kept Palm from going completely belly up in the year 2009. While it won’t turn the company into an Apple-esque super power overnight, it is at least keeping the lights on. Sadly, CDMA lovers in the U.S. have only one option in which to purchase a Palm Pre: Sprint. However, Cleanser, a member of PreCentral forum, has managed to do the seemingly impossible. He unlocked his Pre and got it up and *mostly* running on Verizon (voice and SMS only for now). Obviously, the hardest part he claims was getting someone at Big V to add his MEID number into the system. The rest was your usual firmware flashes and good ‘ol hacking. Whether or not Palm will get around to spreading the U.S. love anytime soon looks doubtful for the near term. For now you’ll have to make do with the “leak standard” Mr. Blurry Cam appearance.

BlackBerry Onyx 9020 gets spied with optical trackpad in tow

BlackBerry fanatics who were impatiently waiting for images of the ever so popular BlackBerry Onyx 9020 need to sit down, grab their inhalers and get ready. The Onyx has finally been spied without any covers, bearing to all the nice little optical trackpad nestled right smack dab front and center awaiting your poking and prodding fingers. Is it a prototype or early production unit? Can’t say at the moment. All I can say is how soon can we get this?! It is definitely a sexy looking Berry — sexiest yet? (Now if only RIM would completely revolutionize that horse and buggy running atop the drop dead gorgeous hardware…)

Google Chrome OS Spied?

  • July 9, 2009 5:21 am

chrome-os
Leaked screenshots of products often draw quite the nerdy crowd. This supposedly leaked shot of an early Google Chrome OS build is no different, especially given the contenders the little OS is up against: Apple, Microsoft, and the free loving community that supports Linux. The screenshot shows a very minimal looking desktop. Though, seeing as how the actual release of said OS isn’t until sometime next year, I’m sure the desktop will undergo some refinements and alterations before go time. The person to thank for the early eye grab would be an Acer parts supplier residing in Taiwan. The legitimacy of these photos does have some doubts however as such a screenshot wouldn’t be that hard to put together yourself. Moving forward, what exactly does this early build of Chrome OS show us?

GSM Palm Pre seen running around ‘Nam

  • June 30, 2009 7:20 am

gsm-pre

Palm’s saving grace in the states hinged on Pre launch day. The phone and the network, Sprint, both needed this wonder device to sell like no other Sprint/Palm device before it in order to give them a fighting chance in staying relevant. So far, the Pre has being doing pretty well meaning at least Sprint can breathe a sigh of relief. Palm however is not quite out of the woods yet. While the Pre is doing pretty hunky dorey over here in the States, elsewhere in the world this odd, third cousin removed CDMA technology just won’t fly. Naturally, Palm is working on a GSM version to satisfy everyone else on this big blue sphere. Lucky for us, someone over in Vietnam has loose lips and has graciously taken the time to show us the GSM Palm Pre compliments of YouTube. Yup, the video goodness is right inside!

New Windows 7 build leaked — New wallpaper insues

  • June 19, 2009 10:05 am

win7-build-7260

I’m pretty sure the top thing on everyone’s “Windows 7 fix list” was a new wallpaper (picture above).  All jokes and sarcasm aside, the latest builds 7232 and 7260 which were both leaked yesterday to the world of nerds alike actually contain quite a few bug fixes.  So far, actual differences between the two builds are pretty minor as no one has stepped forward with any revolutionary enhancements or changes.  However, Windows 7 build 7260 is labeled as an “RTM Escrow” build meaning that it will be the final code assuming there aren’t any major nasties that pop up.  So those of you who are on top of the Windows 7 leaked builds scene, how are 7232/7260 faring?  Is that new wallpaper worth it?  Step inside for a look at the new Win 7 wallpaper.
