Minecraft Themed LEGO Set Gets The Green Light!

  • January 26, 2012 8:09 am

LEGOs are pretty much one of the greatest memories I have of childhood. Many a night were spent building completely random objects and interjecting healthy amounts of fantasy. But alas, we grow up and move to other things. For myself, gaming took over what little spare time I have.

While I haven’t been the biggest player of Minecraft, it is interesting to see the ever increasingly awesome displays of ingenuity and patience that some Minecraft players are displaying like this crazy 1:1 replica of the entire world from Zelda: Ocarina Of Time. But what’s got me most excited currently is the new Minecraft edition LEGO sets that will soon be coming out.

The idea was born through LEGOs homegrown “CUUSOO project” which aims to attract interest to their products by giving normal people like you and I a chance to submit ideas for new LEGO projects. The benefit, of course, is having your design/idea picked and mass produced. To sweeten the pot, LEGO even gives people whose ideas are chosen a 1% commission on all sales.

For now, LEGO is remaining mum on when exactly we can actually buy some Minecraft themed sets. But rest assured, once we get word of their release date/pricing, we’ll be sure to share it with you.

‘Nother shot after the break.

Forget Rockets. Diet Coke And Mentos Can Power LEGO Cars!

  • September 8, 2011 10:01 am

Old and busted: Dropping Mentos into Diet Coke. New Hotness: Harnessing the explosive gas to propel a LEGO car.

Thanks to a group of engineers at Finland’s Abo Akademi University, the Mentos + Diet Coke powered LEGO car is now a reality. The design is simple: feed the gases created by the Mentos and Diet Coke reaction through a small, restrictive piece of tubing that turns a wheel with fishing line attached to a LEGO car. The end result is a propulsion system that can pull the car at up to 25 MPH! Sounds like a good time to us. Next step (as Technabob notes): find a way to integrate this into the LEGO car itself. The Takeover Continues: Angry Birds LEGO Figure. #angrybirds

  • November 17, 2010 5:55 pm

I’m sorry if you were slightly misled by the title. I can see how it may sound like little LEGO Angry Birds figures were coming to market. And seeing as how Rovio is aiming to beat Tetris by “Angry Birding” every aspect of our lives in the near future, LEGO figurines certainly isn’t out of the realm of possibility. Though the nifty Bomber Bird you see above was hand crafted by Flickr user “Beuk, and isn’t coming to market. Sorry folks. You’ll have to build your own.

LEGO Recreates: Inception the movie.

  • August 2, 2010 8:09 am

On a slightly lighter and less repulsive note than the Real Piggy Bank, someone has taken everyone’s favorite geek toy (Hint: LEGOs) and crafted them to depict arguably one of the best summer movies (another hint: Inception). Actually, it wasn’t just one scene, but several, created by Flickr users Profound Whatever and Ochre Jelly’s.

Once you get bored of Inception-only themes (how dare you), be sure to step through the rest of the duo’s LEGO creations. They’re pretty cool. And honestly, who doesn’t like looking at LEGO stuff? Jump on in to see a few of the Inception-ized LEGO scenes highlighted in all their glory…

The DIY LEGO Headphones.

  • July 29, 2010 6:59 am

I fancy myself a nice pair of headphones. Hell, when I was at CES I was like a kid in a candy store, There were tons of high-end personal audio manufacturers there, all with working display models which resulted in me killing several hours not reporting. But it was all good clean fun.

What I didn’t see at CES, however, were these — the LEGO headphones. As you can imagine, these DIY miniaturized music boxes are pretty easy to make as long as you can grasp the basic concept of a LEGO, have a steady hand with the glue, and have an eye for design. With the countless colors, shapes, and sizes one can find LEGOs in, building yourself a unique pair shouldn’t take too much thought.

The LEGO Dimple Tattoo

  • July 14, 2010 6:43 am

How much do you love your LEGOS? Enough to get a tattoo of the divet marks in your finger? If you’re LEGO artist Nathan Sawaya, the answer is a no brainer.

You know, it’s actually pretty clever and cool. Who wants to head down to the tattoo shop with me…? Anyone?

The flashlight of nerds: The LEGO Dynamo Torch

  • July 11, 2010 2:35 pm

Having a flashlight or two in your dwelling place is generally a good safety measure. If the power ever goes out, it’s nice to have some artificial illumination so you don’t go drop kicking furniture with your toes. No matter how drunk or hungover you are, that hurts — bad. You could be like every other human on the planet and pick up a simple Walmart special. Or, you could let your geek shine and pick up a LEGO Dynamo Torch. Besides being ultra geeky, you never have to worry about batteries going bad when you need it most. The LEGO Dynamo uses a hand crank in place of batteries. Exercise and peace of mind, what more could you ask for? Head on over to the Neat Shop and plop down $23.95 for the privilege.

Futurama world re-created with LEGOs

  • July 2, 2010 2:47 pm

Futurama may or may not be a “geek” thing. LEGOs however, are! And when there’s LEGOs in vast numbers, you know something nerdy is in play. Speaking of nerdy, Matt De Lanoy is a massive nerd, creating this 5′ x 7′ LEGO-fied version of Futurama. Initially, Matt started with just a few structures and characters. Obviously he got sucked in. The rest as they say, is history.

There’s nothing you can’t build with LEGOs. Check out more of Matt’s creation on his Flickr page or jump on in for a few more screenies…
