Lenovo Tablet Tipped For Late 2011 Release With 1.6 GHz Quad-Core, 2 GB RAM , And ICS In Tow.

  • November 14, 2011 7:30 am

Lenovo isn’t exactly a brand known for bleeding edge, exciting consumer electronics. Though in the corporate world, they’re one of the many forces to be reckoned with. Still, Lenovo is no stranger to the ways of the average consumer as the Chinese based company has released a smattering of Android tablets over the last year. None of them have really caught on (at least here in the U.S.). But we have a feeling their upcoming quad-core beast will catch on.

Engadget scored some exclusive details on a Lenovo tablet slated for years end coming with a screaming 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, 2 GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, a 10.1″ display and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Specifics regarding the display and the rest of the tablet aren’t yet known. Looks like ASUS’ Transformer Prime won’t be our only lust going into the holiday season after all.

Leaked: Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet With Android 3.0 (Honeycomb)!

  • April 24, 2011 8:56 pm

While Easter coma is affecting millions across the country (ourselves included), there is still news to be had this Sunday evening. ThisIsMyNext managed to get an exclusive look at a leaked Lenovo tablet powered by Android 3.0 (Honeycomb).

The ThinkPad Tablet packs quite a wallop: Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 16GB/32GB/64GB storage capacities, front and rear cameras, a full-sized SD card slot, USB 2.0, 10.1″ 1200 x 800 IPS display w/ “true pen” (for note taking and on-screen scribbling) as well as numerous 3G & 4G options.

Building off of Lenovo’s extensive enterprise background, the ThinkPad tablet’s flavor of Android Honeycomb will be skinned with a UI that resembles that of the Le Pad from 2010. Furthermore, “seamless IT integration” is promised as is support for leading corporate services provided by Cisco, McAfee, Computrace, and more.

The slides found over at ThisIsMyNext are said to be a few months old, so the UI and overall presentation is most likely even more polished. Add in a targeted price point starting $499 and you’ve got a quickly growing crowd of piqued journalists. What do you say, dear consumer?

Stay tuned for more as the July release date inches nearer…

Lenovo: “No Android tablets until Honeycomb.”

  • October 20, 2010 7:00 am

If you’re one of the many folks holding out for a Lenovo-made Android tablet, your wait just got quite a bit longer. The Lenovo CEO Rory Read, came out today and stated that they have ceased development on any type of Android 2.2 (Froyo) tablet, and are instead waiting for Honeycomb.

The move shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise seeing as how Google themselves has repeatedly encouraged hardware manufacturers to not put Froyo on tablets. With the delay, eager end users such as you and I will be waiting until at least mid-2011 before we see any Lenovo/Android action.

Of course, Lenovo’s US-based interests aren’t even in full swing, with Read also stating that over the next two years, the copmany is going to hone in their focus and resources on the Chinese market. Fair enough. Anyone bummed?

Lenovo Skylight delay to result in processor swap, dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon en route?

Delays are rarely a good thing the gadget world. More often than not, as release dates are pushed farther and farther back, interest in the gadget/service wanes and ultimately kills it. In the case of the unusually stylish Lenovo Skylight and its Qualcomm 1GHz processor, “delay” killed it for a lot of people. But a new rumor surfacing on DigiTimes sheds new hope on Lenovo’s baby. Specifically, the unfortunate delay has resulted in Lenovo having time to swap out new internals such as the much talked about dual-core Snapdragon processors.

In regards to the Skylight, the dual-core Snapdragon that’s said to be making its debut in the Skylight will hum along at a brisk 1.5GHz. That’s pretty remarkable that we’re talking about 1GHz+, multi-core processors on mobile phones, isn’t it?

We’ll follow this story as it (does or doesn’t) develop. Surely you’ve got to be excited, no? If netbooks aren’t your thing, don’t worry. Chatter of dual-core higher clocked Snapdragons coming to smartphones have been circulating quite a bit as of late. Q3/Q4 looks to be very exciting, wouldn’t you say?

Looking for mobile 3G/4G laptops? Lenovo has you covered.

AT&T and Verizon may be bickering back and forth over Big Red’s proposed 4G rollout slated for this year, but one carrier in particular would like to remind you that they already have 4G up in play now — Sprint. Perhaps you don’t want to browser the mobile web on a tiny 4″ screen though. That’s certainly understandable. For that, wireless cards for laptops save the day. There are various makes and models that even come with 3G built in so you don’t have to deal with buying separate cards. Taking it one step further, Sprint and Lenovo have some pretty sweet news: From here on out, all Lenovo laptops will have Sprint 3G/4G technology built in.

Lenovo fell of my radar long ago as they turned into a corporate workhorse almost built into obscurity. But times are a changin’ and the latest Lenovo machines aren’t actually all that bad consumer-wise. When my laptop is up for a refresh (or I simply get a second) Lenovo may just get a nod as built in 4G would be awesome.

Of course, in 6-12 months more manufacturers will probably offer the same 4G options as well (albeit for an added price), so the playing field will be a bit more level.

Is built in Sprint 3G/4G enough to sway you towards Lenovo now? Their newew laptops actually look pretty sweet and the spec’s aren’t too lacking either…

Green Dam Youth Escort software gets booted from last 3 stranglers

  • September 21, 2009 11:25 am

China Cyber Spy Network

In what was one of the worst ideas yet in regards to censorship and “safety”, the forced install of the Green Dam Youth Escort software that was mandated to be installed on every PC in China has been dealt another and potentially fatal blow. The last three major manufacturers whom also started shipping or installing the software from the factory are now backing down as well. Lenovo no longer installs the software from the factory, though, they will provide an install CD if asked. Acer announced that they too will stop shipping PC’s with the Green Dam install CD. Sony meanwhile stopped shipping Green Dam two months ago after the initial July deadline was repealed. It’s worth noting that while the July deadline was repealed for an outright mandatory install on all PC’s, the public sector including schools, cafes, etc. were still required to install the software.

It appears however that the line in the sand will be moved even further back as public domains are starting to blacklist the software with the latest being Number 50 Chinese High School which is requiring the Green Dam software to be uninstalled from all school computers as it caused conflicts with grade and attendance software already in use. If you don’t recall, the original outcries were caused by privacy concerns as Green Dam was extremely invasive as well as the fact that it was being forced on everyone. Now that there has been some secession on the governments part, could one interpret this as a more consumer friendly movement moving through the Chinese government? Can I get a whoop whoop?!

In all reality, the makers of Green Dam are most likely working on the various bugs and maybe even a few privacy concerns so that they can come back at a later date? Have we seen the last of Green Dam?

Complimenting the shots found online last week of the “Pocket Yoga” by Lenovo, an as of yet unannoucned product, more photos have crept their way onto Flickr showing what appears to be a touchscreen “laptop” with an insanely wide screen ratio.  How practical will it be for scrolling vertically for long documents?  Who knows, but it sure does look cool!  Nothing else is currently known about this mystery device from Lenovo.  Come inside for a few more pictures of the Pocket Yoga posing for the camera.

Survery says: Lenovo IdeaCentre 600 is…”Mediocre”

A few days ago i posted about Lenovo’s IdeaCentre 600. Gizmodo has been able to spend some hands on time with it.  His take on it?  It sucked.  Ok, maybe he wasn’t that harsh, but he definitely wasn’t impressed either.  One of his biggest gripes was the wireless do-it-all remote was no where near as nice as the  Wii’s and even the Wii’s isn’t the smoothest device ever either.  It really says a lot for the IC 600.  Using the remote as an air mouse wasn’t quite as bad, but it still suffered from lag.  Issues could be anything right now from software, hardware, or firmware.  Either way, Lenovo better polish up the performance a bit if it hopes for this IdeaCentre to make any traction in the market.  Check below for a few pictures *property of Gizmodo*.

3 New notebooks from Lenovo

  • January 5, 2009 12:16 pm

On top of the all-in-one computer I mentioned earlier, Lenovo is releasing 3 new Y series notebooks.  Designed around HD multimedia, the 14″ Y450, 15″ Y550, and 16″ Y650 will all have 16:9 glossy displays and Nvidia GFX graphics to showcase movies in widescreen format and to allow colors to pop off the screen all without breaking a sweat.  A multi-touch trackpad, up to 500GB hard drive, and up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM round out a rather appealing set of notebooks.  The design of the notebooks is equally impressive.  A soft black lid with a hexagonal pattern, along with a “rusty oragne” colored accent give the notebook series some visual appeal.
