With all of the focus on the iPhone, App Store, and mobile sphere in general, it would seem that Apple has forgotten or given up on their desktop clientèle. But a fresh Mac Mini refresh slightly pushes off that belief.
The first part worth noticing is the new, $100 higher pricetag, which now pushes the bottom-of-the-line Mac Mini up to $699. Slight criticism aside, what does that extra hundred bones get you? For starters, a new once-piece aluminum body mimicking similar construction techniques found in the Macbook/Pro line, HDMI and user-accessible RAM.
The one-piece aluminum build is a nice feature bringing more rigidity and a cleaner look. HDMI is a pretty decent deal if you’re going to be hooking up to 1080p monitors. (And honestly, in 2010, who isn’t?) User accessible RAM is a biggie for sure as Apple is notorious for needlessly locking down hardware in order to overcharge customers for routine upgrades later on down the line.
And…that’s it. Is it worth $100 extra? I would say no. Then again, if you’ve already got the rest of a typical computer put together and just need a “tower”, $699 for OS X isn’t bad at all. I guess it all depends on where your needs lie…

Whoops. Forgot the little guy in the other post. Since it’s introduction, the Mac Mini has often received updates and tweaks without much fan fare as it’s larger brethren such as Macbooks, iMacs, and Mac Pros often steal the limelight. Today is no different as it’s other siblings again overshadow Apple’s little niche baby. Still, if you’re in the market for just a computer and already have a screen and peripherals, the Mac Mini is even more attractive. The Mac entry line still starts at $599 but that anemic 2 GHz C2D proc now runs at 2.26GHz. Also included — 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive and an Nvidia 9400m GPU. A couple more benjamins will net your a still faster 2.53GHz C2D with 4GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive. And perhaps the most intriguing version of the new Mac Mini is the Mac Mini “Server Edition”. Essentially, this version which tips the scales at $999 is the same exact unit as the the two previously mentioned Mini’s. The only difference being the Super Drive is kicked to the curb in favor of a second hard drive giving this little box-o-plastic a 1TB total capacity and of course, the inclusion of Snow Leopard Server edition. Those itching for even more space can always swap out their own drives if they so choose. Whistle wet?
So after seeing all the new goods, which is has your wallet’s attention? The newer, faster Macbook, beastly iMac, or little giant — Mac Mini?

Apple is having a rather large day already with refreshes of several major lines including iMacs, Mac Pros, Mac mini’s and now the Airport Extreme and Time Capsule. Now, Apple’s two wireless devices will broadcast in both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz frequencies simulatneously thanks to a new dual band radio. You will now be able to support up to 50 users at a time! Prices for the latest and greatest from Cupertino are $179 for the Airport Extreme and $299/$499 for the 500GB/1TB Time Capsules. In the matter of an hour my wallet has come under immense pressure. Now I can completely upgrade my home set up. Will I cave…?

Rounding out this Tuesday mornings flood of Apple iGoods is the often criticized (for lack of better config options) Mac mini. While many have had high hopes for the Mac mini, it appears Apple continues to see it less favorably as the upgrades are minor at best. Step inside for the answers to your questions…

Well folks the Apple Store is down which can only mean one thing. The rumors from yesterday about today being the grand revealing of revamped iMacs, Mac Pros, and Mac Mini’s is looking rather believable right now. Soon we will know. So which new iProduct will you be purchasing?

Chalk this up there as a big ‘ol rumor. This evening a flurry of activity is making its way around the digital world concerning Apple’s pretty much known refreshes for their iMacs, Mac Pros, and Mac Minis. The date that’s has been rumored so far is March 24th. However someone let slip tomorrow as the day of reckoning and now Mac fanboys everywhere are pouncing. While I would greatly appreciate tomorrow as a nice surprise, I don’t think tomorrow is a very plausible date. For one, Apple loves being the center of attention. CeBiT and PMA are both going on right now meaning Apple would have to compete for the media’s attention. Also, with so many refreshes and announcements to make, one would think Apple would do it in a more traditional method such as at a “show” and sending invites ot the media. However that hasn’t happened. Tomorrow is Tuesday however, Apple’s favorite day of the week so anything is possible. Come inside for the low down on what is supposed to be announced tomorrow…if not later this month..the list is pretty long so take a seat.

March 24th is the date for Apple junkies to mark on their calendars. Supposedly that’s when Apple will hold their next event and showcase their newest iMacs, Mac Pro’s and Mac Mini’s to the world. All I can say is I hope so! The iMac’s are rumored to be getting updated Nvidia graphics like the Macbooks as well as possibly a quad-core option. The Mac Pro’s are said to be receiving updated Xeon processors. And the Mini? More power? More storage? Start the guessing folks! Apple hasn’t publicly announced anything yet nor sent out any press invites. So here’s hopin’ for the best.

Leading up to Macworld practically every inch of Apple’s lineup was touched with a rumor. One hard hit area that was sadly left out of the updates (so far) was the Mac Mini. It is long overdue for a refresh. Tom’s Hardware and Crunchgear shed some light on the subject today. The new Mac Mini’s will be sporting Nvidia’s 9400M graphics with Intel’s Atom 330, a low power, dual-core processor that should clock in around 1.6GHz with a FSB reportedly at 533MHz. Not blazing, but the Mini isn’t about raw speed and power. Because the Ion platform is incredibly small, one can expect the Mac Mini to lose a little size in it’s next appearance. According to Tom’s Hardware, March is the time in which the new Mini’s will be announced/released. Obviously pricing hasn’t been anounced, but according to what the first gen Mini’s came in at, and by Nvidia’s suggestion that Ion toting products start at around $400, we could guess between $500-$700. I for one am not particularly interested in the Mini, however I know many people use them as little mini servers. Besides that, they make great little machines for light computer users who just want internet access, iTunes, and other basic applications as it will easily run Leopard. As March gets nearer, I’m sure the rumors will build. We’ll see!
