Pre-Holiday Season To See MacBook Pro Refresh?

  • September 14, 2011 1:48 am

Sources close to AppleInsider are saying that Apple is planning on release an update to it’s Pro laptop line in the coming weeks – following the close of Apple’s Back-To-School Promotion which ends on September 20th. With the Air line receiving their update this past July, and the Pro series not seeing anything since this past February, it is actually possible Apple would like to bridge the gap between the last update and the release of Intel’s next-generation Core i-Series mobile platform.

According to people with proven insight into Apple’s future product plans, the late-2011 MacBook Pro refresh will deliver marginal speed bumps to the notebooks’ Core i-Series of Sandy Bridge processors but will otherwise introduce no material changes over the existing models.

AppleInsider says the latest 2.4GHz, 2.5GHz and 2.7GHz quad-core Core i7 processors could replace the current 2.0GHz, 2.2GHz and 2.3GHz versions currently powering Apples professional series notebooks. The 13-inch entry level MacBook Pro could see a bump with the listed 2.5GHz to 2.6GHz processors now available.

No one really knows what Apple has planned for this Holiday season. With no scheduled annual September Music Event, nothing concrete regarding the iPhone 5 – there is no telling what will happen. I don’t feel Apple will only give the current line a 7 month life, but that is just my humble opinion. We’ll all have to wait and see. You guys think it makes sense to release a refresh now in light of the wait until Intel’s second quarter of 2012 next-gen release?

Uh-Oh: Reported Issues Between Verizon LTE Modems And New Sandy Bridge MacBook Pros.

  • February 24, 2011 3:07 pm

Slashgear has stumbled on to a potentially troublesome issue for owners of Verizon’s Pantech LTE modem and one of the new Sandy Bridge powered MacBook Pros. Apparently, they don’t work together. At least, that’s what the screenshot above would lead to suggest. Anyone else out there have access to both a Pantech LTE modem and brand new Sandy Bridge MacBook Pro?

We all knew it was coming — the MacBook Pro refresh. And when the “We’ll Be Right Back” Sticky note started popping up on our browsers when going to Apple’s online store, we knew the weeks of waiting were about to pay off. So what exactly can you, the consumer, get from these new Sandy Bridge-powered laptops? Hop inside for the full rundown…

MacBook Pro Details Continue Leaking Ahead Of Official Launch.

  • February 24, 2011 8:19 am

While the official unveiling is but mere minutes to hours away, there’s something special about leaked information. A 9to5Mac source has leaked 5 new MBP SKUs spanning from 13.3″ all the way up to 17″. We’ve already seen the 13 incher’s specs break cover over the last day. And until Apple’s store comes back online, the current “rumors” are all about the 15″ and 17″ laptops — 2.2GHz/2.7GHz dual-core processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM @1,333, and choices of 500GB or 750GB hard drives. Graphics power is handled by an 1GB AMD 6750 and the much hyped mini-Display Port/Thunderbolt combo port comes along for the ride too. The 17″ MBP gains the 1920 x 1080 display as standard while also gaining a 2.2GHz quad-core i7 processor. Both the 15″ and 17″ models have a matte display as an available option.

In total, there are 5 new MBP SKUs. Currently, ship time is said to be less than 24 hours. While this isn’t “confirmed” just quite yet, it shouldn’t be much longer until Apple makes all of the above public knowledge. F5 button getting worn out yet?

2011 Macbook Pro Refresh to Move SSD-Only, Drop DVD Drive? #apple

  • November 27, 2010 12:22 pm

Looking forward to the usual 1H of the year Macbook Pro refresh that’s guaranteed for spring time? Yeah, me too. While I love my new Air, my Macbook Pro has seen better days. With that said, Three Guys and a Podcast made some rather interesting claims that the upcoming early-2011 MBP refresh would see a number of significant changes including the abolishment of HDD hard drives, the removal of the DVD drive, and LightPeak…

Irony at it’s finest: Microsoft giving away Macbook Pro’s as rewards. Icicles to jut from the ground in 3..2..

  • February 22, 2010 10:02 am

As I myself look for a new computer, I find myself pulled every which way trying to make sense of the non-sense that normally fills my head on top of spec sheet after spec sheet. What should I get? Well, if I want to save a buck or two I can enter “Mac Office Loves You and win a free Macbook Pro. Sweet. Who doesn’t love free, not to mention a shiny new Macbook Pro free? Answer: No one. The irony: It’s a giveaway by Microsoft.

I totally get the whole Office for Mac push (I hate iWork by the way), but giving away a free Macbook Pro even if it benefits Microsoft in the end run is still mighty comical if you ask me. Then again, Microsoft makes a lot more money on software than they do on hardware purchases. Of course, a Windows OS license costs a bit more than Office. Oh geeze. It can go both ways. What do you think, smart decision?

Retailer internal computer systems never lie — New Macbook Pro’s all but certain.

  • February 8, 2010 8:38 pm

Are new Macbook Pros right around the corner? You could say the leaked images a couple of days back showing a Core i7 Macbook Pro being put through the paces as nothing more than some clever Photoshop mastery. I’m more of an optimist however. I’m choosing to take the higher road. A road which eventually leads to new, more powerful Macbook Pros. You could say my head is stuck up in the clouds and that I’m a too much of a dreamer. That may be true, but the images above combined with new evidence of disappearing SKU’s in store inventory points to the inevitable — that’s right, new Macbook Pros.

What of these disappearing SKU’s? The image above comes courtesy of some random Best Buy employee. What you’re looking at is the internal system page for the Macbook Pro 13″ — no longer available for order. I haven’t heard of any bizarre display, aluminum, silicon, ram, etc. shortages within the last month so why would they disappear if something newer and better wasn’t about to replace it?

If Apple were still attending Macworld, I’m sure we’d hear of the new hardware then. But, seeing as how they up and left that party, it appears we’ll have to wait until Apple announces their own little shindig or simply uploads the new goods to the store on a Tuesday some not too distant Tuesday morning.

I really don’t care how they do it. I just want my Core i7 17″ Macbook Pro. Anyone else getting antsy?

Core i7 Macbook Pro’s caught getting GeekBenched? Results: 5260!

  • February 6, 2010 11:33 am

It wasn’t too long ago that Core i5 Macbook Pros were “accidentally” included in an Intel sponsored contest as one of the prizes. After the entire tech world jumped on it, Intel quickly removed the offending units and offered up the typical “Oops, our bad. Nothing to see here. Move along.” statement. Whether that incident included an actual real Macbook Pro (as we all know quad-core Macbook Pros are coming at some point) or a legitimate typo is beside the point because a new development today has something even better — Core i7 Macbook Pros getting run through their paces on GeekBench.

What could be better than catching Macbook Pro’s huffin’ and puffin’ on GeekBench and then splayed on the interwebs for all of us to see? Not much actually. A MacRumors forum member caught the goods on GeekBench’s website:

  • OS Build #: Mac OS 10.6.2 (Build 10C3067) — *unreleased
  • BIOS Version: Bios MBP61.88Z.004C.B00.1001251657
  • Processor: Core-i7 M620

The icing on the cake is of course the results the GeekBench team were able to achieve: 5260. That’s awesome! As 9to5 Mac notes, current Macbook Pros only achieve between 3700 and 4000. Obviously Core i7 Macbook Pros are beasts!

It could all be fake of course. If so, consider myself epicly saddened. Still, I’m holding out hope that an official announcement by Apple comes in the following weeks.

Core i5/i7 (Arrandale) processors to grace MBP’s come early 2010?

  • December 1, 2009 6:33 pm

imageThose with itchy trigger/mouse fingers longing to order a new top-o-the-line Macbook Pro need to get control of themselves and holster their weapons for a brighter horizon is upon us. Would you be so eager to drop 2-3 large on a MBP knowing that Arrandale (read: Core i5/i7) processors are just around the corner from release, bringing a new generation of speed and power in the smallest most energy efficient package yet? Hmm, worded like that, even the king edition of a MBP somehow loses a bit of its luster. Don’t get me wrong, current MBP’s are the fastest iterations ever. But with Core i5/i7 quad cores packing speeds of 2.4GHz and 2.66GHz respectively, how could you not want to wait? Of course, those of you fortunate enough to have the bank account(s) to support buying new $2K+ computers every couple of months do not apply. I hate you. (Just kidding…I envy you).

How long until we can poke and prod such fine examples of beauty and power? According to Fudzilla, such treats could come as soon as January 3rd. There’s only one problem with that date — Apple never releases anything on Sunday or the weekend for that matter. Other than that, an early January release doesn’t seem too far off. I mean, the MBP line is due for a refresh in early 2010 if past refresh cycles are followed coupled with the introduction of newer Core i5/i7 architecture in the iMac line a couple months back.

Early 2010 seem plausible for Arrandale based MBP’s? January 3rd is highly unlikely. In fact, I wouldn’t hold your breath. But January/early 2010…? Now we’re talkin’
