Mash up gadgets are always a sight to see. When someone takes two objects/gadgets that are on polar opposites of their respective spectrum’s and then smashes them together in beautiful, artistic geekery, the resulting creation is often more than the sum of 1 + 1.
In this case (no pun intended), we have the Calculator Boy. Created by modder Alexis Sepulveda, crunching numbers, whether for work or for play, will never be boring again. Ok, at least it won’t look like you’re bored. The only knock against the Calculator Boy is the price — you can’t buy them. Ya, it’s a bummer. Hopefully either Alexis or someone with deep pockets and connections sets up shop and starts crankin’ these things out.
Would you buy one?

Math is far and wide my least favored subject. But we’ve gone over that before many, many times. So instead of complaining about my number crunching hatred, I’ll share with you one way to ignore it altogether, fooling your teachers and pleasing your soul.
The GameBoy Calculator is one of those inventions we all wished for as school children. School is rarely “fun” in the purest sense of the word. Making our days go quicker by filling them with some super cool retro gaming would certainly give the daily grind a much needed kick in the pants, wouldn’t you say? Skilled tinkerer Alentris did just that.
He took your standard TI-83 (TI really needs to upgrade these things) graphing calculator and crammed a fully functioning GameBoy inside. Cool is an understatement. You may notice some rough edges and what not, but lets be real, this is a calculator/GameBoy meant to pass some time — not some Apple inspired gadget of beauty.
The only problem that crops up is when Alentris does actually need to use a calculator. Such issues can be remedied with simple adjustments in the design however. When making the next iteration, remove the GameBoy and replace it with an iPod Touch. Games. Tools. Internet. Problem solved.

Throughout school and even now, math is probably my least favorite subject. In fact, I would even go as far to say that I avoid it. Why do I hate numbers so? No sure. It’s just a feeling I’ve always had. Kind of strange really. Many in the tech/digital field usually have a fairly good grasp of math and all that it offers. Why I got left out is anybodies guess. Maybe if I had the OS X calculator I would have done better. Meh, there’s no hope for me. But these concept OS calculators by Mintpass sure are cool. Because of the obvious reasons (massive lawsuits), neither Microsoft and especially Apple would ever let Joe Shmoe profit off their design. So, we’ll have to wait around until WW5 before we can ever begin of dreaming of these becoming a reality. *sigh*

If you’re in the market for a unique and “one-of-a-kind” type of gadget, look no further. Math nerds and/or the mathematically retarded will find the Chocolate Calculator a worthy addition to their geeky gadget bag. Featuring the obvious and distinct physical appearance of a chocolate bar including the sweet aroma that real chocolate even possesses, the chocolate calculator will surely surprise at least a few. Does it look good enough to pick up?

Throughout our journey called life, we will encounter many different types of people. Being a gadget blog, naturally we’re going to highlight the more digitally proficient – geeks. During your lifetime, you will meet geeks, and then you will meet geeks. Focusing on the latter, this next gadget is probably one of the loudest and most obvious ways to label someone a true, die hard geek – The Geek Clock. This clock is not like any ordinary clock that mere mortals gaze at everyday, impatiently counting down the seconds until the work day is over. Why not? Well, it doesn’t have “real” numbers at all but instead mathematical equations that equal out (I assume) to the various numbers. Is that too much geekiness for you? Or is it something that you have been waiting for all along, praying to whoever it is that you pray to to grace you with a gadget such as that? All of that geeky, number crunching, mere mortal mind killing can be had for the low price of $25 available at Uncommon Goods. Crunch away! For the actual answers to each equation on the clock, take a minute to step inside and awake parts of your mind that have been dormant for years…
