Need a rugged, high capacity, and relatively quick flash drive? Look no further than the Corsair FlashVoyager GT now topping out at 128GB. Capacious? Certainly. Super GT? Eh. I have an older Corsair FlashVoyager 32GB and while the size is might handy, god save my soul if I ever wanted to fill it up as that would mean leaving it do it’s thing…overnight. While that particular drive I had averaged 8-12MB/second, the GT is roughly around 15-20MB/second bringing a decent bump in speed. And yes, as always, being on the cutting edge does come with certain price barriers. This particular one weighing in at $380 after the $20 mail-in rebate. Is $400 of rugged, portable flash storage that important that you need to drop that much for some stacked silicon and rubber? If I had the cash, you bet I would.

For most users who need light to medium security, a simple password protected folder will suffice. But for those who are in the market for some heavy duty security and want a good solid “physical” safety to fall back on will find just that in the Personal Safe Pocket Drive. The real draw here is 9-number keypad on the drive itself. I’m sure you can assume where this is going. In order to actually access anything on the drive, the correct keycode will need to be entered, after which all of your precious 1′s and 0′s are yours for the taking. While not a real feature, wouldn’t it be cool if after a certain number of wrong attempts the device self destructed (of course as not to injure anyone outside of a set distance…say 5 feet)? A self destruction feature would definitely up the security factor and the coolness factor! Though such things are illegal. Moving on, back here in reality world, the 256-bit AES encryption will have to hold you over until those self destructing drives become legal. If you’re ready to drop the greenery needed, Thumbs Up UK is your place. Oh yeah, plan to send £59.99 ($99) across the pond in order to get your Personal Safe.

Another day, another novelty flash drive. If you’ve grown tired of these types of posts, pass on by, but if you’re in the mood for the latest in USB excitement, boy have we got a treat for you. The USB Light Bulb Flash Drive takes the shape of an old incandescent light bulb but with flash memory crammed inside. The drive comes in 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB sizes for $19, $22, $32 respectively. The only two downsides I see to this drive is that it doesn’t actually light up (though it would actually get pretty hot) and that being a novelty flash drive, speeds will probably be pretty abysmal as these types of drives are more about form over function. Still, if you’re on the edge of your set, step on over to USB Brando and claim your prize.
