Verizon Wireless Launching Unlimited Plans to Compete With Sprint.

  • November 6, 2010 4:18 pm

Back when Sprint came out with their Simply Everything plans, I said that while it wouldn’t bring Sprint back into the black ink, it would at least appease heavy mobile users who are getting gouged by rising cellular plans. And as we look back on the past year or so that Sprint has had said plans, I was pretty much right. They really didn’t cause a massive influx of customers to the CDMA carrier. However, as Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T start capping and limiting plans, Sprint stands alone.

Alone until now that is. Some new marketing material for upcoming Verizon Wireless cell phone plans has made its way out into the open. Most surprisingly, not more than a few weeks after VZW announced their new capped data plans, a new $69.99 450-minute/Unlimited Text/Unlimited Data plan is revealed on this new flyer. (Paying for everything separate would cost $90+!) For families, there’s a $139.99 version that allows 2 lines to divvy up 1400 minutes while also enjoying the same unlimited text/unlimited data.

**As pointed out below, Sprint still has a leg up on Verizon as their $69.99 plan offers unlimited minutes regardless of carrier as well as unlimited texts and data.

Hopefully Verizon gets around to announcing and releasing these new plans sooner rather than later. Check out the full flyer after the jump…

Pre-paid BlackBerries and plans coming to VZW in the near future?

  • January 26, 2010 9:17 am

Live the nomadic life do ya? Venture from place to place without a care in the world, or at the very least, places with spotty cellphone coverage? For some, paying each and every month for cellphone service is still a distasteful idea. Fair enough. Can’t please everyone. That’s why we have pre-paid plans though, so that the wireless world can please almost everyone. The only problem so far has been that pre-paid plans don’t give you too many options in the way of smartphones and data plans. If you can manage to find a “decent” pre-paid option, they’re still overpriced compared to post-paid plans and give you laughable data allowances. Laugh no more as Verizon is working on a solution.

Nothing is quite set in stone yet or 100% confirmed, but word from a few BGR ninjas is that VZW is working on some new additions to their pre-paid offerings that would include BlackBerry devices and data plans. For now, we’re not sure which device or devices would be eligible. As for the price, current rumors point at the $35 mark which isn’t too bad all things considered. Hardware pricing would follow your standard hardware pricing schemes for post-paid, settling nicely into place somewhere in between a normal subsidized price and full retail.

Anyone out there in gadget land feeling like a pre-paid BlackBerry would be right up there alley?

T-Mobile UK raises roaming rates 50%

rates-1

If you so choose to communicate with the world through a partnership with T-Mobile UK and just so happen to roam more than your average human, you may want to cash out on your 401K or other retirement savings just to make phone calls. Starting October 26th, T-Mobile UK is raising the price on roaming prices upwards of 50% to pretty much every country you can think of. Highway robbery I say. If you were looking to get out of your contract early you’re probably out of luck as T-Mo is giving you ample notice. Still, if you’ve got some digital beef, it never hurts to try I guess. If you’re calling destination isn’t on the list above, jump on in for an extended list with plenty more countries on the roster.
