Oh sweet heavenly almighty power above. Can we have actually have our cake and eat it too? If Myriad, the clever minds behind Delvik Turbo, have their way, sugar highs and full stomachs will soon be coming to Android users. The core of Android is a special form of Java called Delvik. Delvik Turbo is an optimized form of said code. According to the claims of Myriad, the optimization is good for up to a 3x boost in the general speed of Android as well as dramatically increased battery life.
I’m dying to know more about this tweaked code. Things such as can it be implemented in current Android OS flavors? How hard is it to implement it? Will it cause any incompatibilities with current Android software/apps? And of course, how much actual battery life will we see gained? All important things that we probably won’t hear until the company makes some announcements at MWC. Stay tuned…
Just a few short months after RIM finally took the covers off of OS 5.0, word from the secret underground is already telling of a more enticing OS version — 6.0. Now if you scouring for details, I’m sorry to say you wont’ find them here…yet. RIM has just started according to the BGR source. Hopefully 6.0 will be more deserving of an entire jump to the next digit as 5.0 was hardly an “upgrade”.
On that same front, the source is also quoted saying that OS 5.2 will drop sometime this year. Details of this more immediate release are also a bit on the light side (read: start guessin’).
So we have two new BlackBerry OS’s and not much of anything on either. Awesome. Stay tuned…
The Samsung Galaxy seemed like it would have been the best Android device on the market when it was released a couple months back. In reality, outdated software, a “so-so” UI tacked on by Samsung, and a few other small inconsistencies have left the current Galaxy pretty unpopular in the states. Redemption is hopefully on the way however in the form of the Galaxy 2. The rendering above isn’t a physical prototype yet, but given the large number of similarities between this and rendering and the current Galaxy, speculating that it’s a 2nd gen version isn’t too hard to believe is it?
The current specs set to drop with the Galaxy 2 include a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, larger 3.7″ AMOLED screen, 5mp camera, 32GB of internal memory, and Android 2.1. Color me intrigued…again. The only thing left to see is if there’s a slide out qwerty hiding behind that beautiful face and if Snapdragon actually makes it on board seeing as how Samsung does make their own chips. Mighty interesting…
Windows Mobile diehards, all 13 of you gather ’round. Microsoft’s CFO Peter Klein has given us all a grand display of his loose lips by sharing that Mobile World Congress in Barcelona will in fact be the home of the world’s first WinMo 7 unveiling. Can anyone say saweet?!
For a quick refresher, WinMo 7 will bring with it legitimate support for capacitive screens, a heavily *fingers crossed* reworked Windows Mobile UI, and speed/navigation improvements across the board. All-in-all, for someone such as myself who has never liked Windows Mobile, this one actually has me pretty excited.
Anyone else out there experiencing a quickening heart rate?
The day has finally arrived folks. Apple has finally taken the wraps off of their Jesus Tablet, which has been given the name: “iPad”. So is it cool enough to live up to the hype that has been literally saturating the internet for the last month? I’m not a tablet fan and even this has my interesting piqued. The iPad is the fruit of well over a year of labor between scores of Apple employees. It is easily the best tablet “computer” available on the market. And starting at $499 it will be impossible to beat. Shall we…?

Ready for a midday round of disappointment coupled with a dash of optimism? The Acer Liquid was to be a Snapdragon powered beast of a mobile device. For those with already wondering minds, be at ease as the Liquid is still coming and with a Snapdrgaon proc to boot. There’s only one problem. Acer is downclocking the CPU to 768MHz. Granted, that’s faster than most phones out there today and just 6 months ago would have garnered a slew of “ZOMG’s”. However, in today’s world with 1GHz/Snapdragon powered devices being leaked weekly it seems, 768MHz just isn’t going to cut it. Looking at the slide, perhaps it’s the anemic 1350mAh battery that’s the culprit for the rationing. Perhaps it’s not. All I can say is Acer better optimize the hell out of their Android build or else the Liquid is going to dry up — real fast. Feeling a little less enthusiastic about Acer’s Android debut or is 232MHz not that big of a deal to you?
HTC’s current lack or recognition for Android 1.6 (Donut) has left many HTC users feeling hurt and unloved. Even though Cupcake/1.6 doesn’t bring anything that earth shattering, Android people love their updates. Almost as much as CrackBerry users. So it is understandable that a lack of 1.6 love could cause some problems. Take comfort in knowing that it is for the greater good….
An email between a slightly disgruntled HTC Hero user and an HTC European CSR:
Dear HTC customer,
Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center. We are dedicated to providing you with the best quality service and answering all of your questions and concerns.
The Hero will not be receiving the Android 1.6 upgrade, it will however get the 2.0 one. Do note however that we do not have a confirmed release date for this upgrade, all I can recommend at the moment is that you keep yourself updated by visiting our website regularly as the latest information will be available to view from there.
Best regards,

I think I could stomach missing out on some minor updates for the bigger, badder 2.0 perfection that is Android 2.0/Eclair. Don’t you? For now, file this neat carefully handled tidbit into the “rumor” file as HTC has yet to confirm such an announcement. Awaiting a response from HTC themselves. Though I’m not expect too much at this point. An answer confirming this rumor would make for a pleasant surprise…
Are you eagerdying to know everything, and I mean everything about Android 2.0 (Eclair)? Even though Verizon’s various documents and product marketing material have done an ok job giving us a few talking points on Google’s up and coming update, if you really want to know every nook and cranny of the beauty that is Eclair, the video below needs to be in your que.
If you’re of the impatient type, I’ll go ahead and give you something to get you going. Some of the more drool worthy Android 2.0 features:
WVGA (800×480) and FWVGA (854×480) support
Revamped browser UI w/ HTML 5 support
Exchange Support
Drastically improved on-screen keyboard
Multi-touch support
Improved & deeper camera controls
Such things are the very tip of the iceberg mind you. It’s in your best interest to take a look at the video below. Sit back and watch it. When you’re done, watch it again. Then lets us know what you think. Please T-Mobile, get an Android device as awesome as the Moto Droid and soon! Heck, I’ll pretty much take anything with Android 2.0 at this point. Though it appears I may be waiting just a tad as subtle hints in the vid below have Verizon slyly admitting to a small exclusive period with Android 2.0. Here’s to hoping it’s indeed short…
The reviews of Windows Mobile 6.5 are trickling in and the overall consensus is rather bleak. So far I’ve seen the words “suck” and “Windows Mobile 6.5″ used together, describing each other quite a bit today. I’m sure camp M isn’t too thrilled. Though the Balms knows how to get a crowd going with his at times crazy onstage antics. Can his endless enthusiasm for 1998 tech and countless pep talks carry WinMo through until version 7 arrives sometime late next year? While I dog WinMo a lot, I am still hoping and praying Windows Mobile 7 really brings something to the table as is widely known, competition is good. Oh, in case you needed some reassurance on these claims of overall 6.5 suckiness, a few of the bigger names finding WinMo 6.5 rather uninspiring include:
So what’s your early take? Regardless if you’ve actually “felt” WinMo 6.5 in your hands or are merely commenting on screenshots and videos, (I promise, it’s not that much better in real life), do you feel as if the wait until next year and Windows Mobile 7 is an eternal voyage with no end in sight?
