iPhone 4 users tired of carrying around a spare sync cable everywhere or endless searching for wall outlets and USB ports from which to charge their dying iPhone have a new saving grace. Popular Apple accessory manufacturer Mophie, has officially revealed their next-gen Juice Pack Air for the iPhone 4. Powering the sleek battery-in-a-case is a 2,000mAh battery which Mophie claims will provide your iPhone 4 with the following runtimes:
- Up to 8 extra hours of 3G talk-time
- 7 hours of extra 3G data use
- 44 more hours of audio playback
- 11 hours of extended video playback
Besides the mobile freedom, the Juice Pack Air doubles as a case to boot. At $100, it may be a bit steep for the lighter user. But for the heavier/ultra-mobile users, the Juice Pack Air is certainly a tool worth owning.

iPhone 4 power users have probably discovered by now that carrying around a power cord is a good idea if they want to make it past the afternoon with a usable phone. As great as the iPhone’s battery is and as optimized as iOS is regarding conserving battery life, it’s still not that great. And, without a user replaceable battery, quick battery swaps with a backup are a no go.
But thanks to the folks at Mophie, iPhone users can once again carry on into the latter half of the day with the new iPhone 4 compatible Mophie Juice Pack Air.
Packed inside the thin case is a 1500mAh battery giving iPhone 4 users several more hours of legitimate, usable runtime — not just standby time. If I had an iPhone 4, I’d have a Juice Pack Air. The only thing that may cause apprehension for some is the $80 price tag. Yeah, it’s a lot for a relatively tiny external battery. But you have to look at the other side of the coin — the case is small and looks great on the phone. Such goals aren’t the easiest of things when it comes to external batteries.

Think Jack Dorsey’s “Square” was as good as it got? Mophie, a popular iPhone hardware manufacturer would like you to think otherwise. While I and apparently several other bloggers in the tech sphere don’t see this exactly one upping or even in the same league as Square, there’s no doubt the mobile transaction market is quickly heating up.
If we were going based on software alone, it would be hard to say much of anything about Mophie currently as their description of the “private label” software simply states:
Marking its first combination hardware and private label iPhone application device, mophie is launching its innovative new credit card reader, empowering users to complete financial transactions on the go.
So, are they (Mophie) making it or is someone else? Beats me. But we’ll find out such things in less than a week anyway so there’s no sense in losing sleep over it.
Software aside, the actual hardware pictured above is actually pretty nifty if it materializes into anything remotely close to the picture. Then again, being mobile means just that — mobile and compact. Dorsey’s Square dongle has Mophie’s rendering beat hands down for size. And if Mophie isn’t doing the whole software/hardware combo in house as Square is doing, consider this a novelty service.
That’s the word for now. Have anything to add?

Finally! A battery-in-case that isn’t so big you can’t fit it in your pocket, it almost doubles battery life, AND looks awesome! Following Mophies fairly successful “Mophie Juice Pack”, the company realized that even that model was too big, bulky, and unsightly and that something else needed to be done. Today, Mophie introduced the new slimmer sexier “Juice Pack Air“. A new battery-in-case that is lighter, smaller, and a whole lot better looking than the bigger model. The JPA contains a 1200mAh battery that as Mophie puts it, “nearly doubles battery life”. I am a pretty heavy user and manage to get just about 13 hours out of a charge so double is plenty for me. Eager buyers can snap up a pre-order of said case in exciting colors such as black, white, and…purple…(odd choice for some pizzaz but whatever). I’ll take two please. Hop on through if you must read the press release.
