Taking a conversation online in the mobile age was at one time a chore. The services and hardware that we had were crude at best. But over the last 5-6 years, the cellphone, and now smartphones, have come quite a ways. What was once a wasteland is now a land saturated with multi-account chat apps. There are literally dozens of different chap apps on iOS alone, with Android, BlackBerry, Symbian, and very soon, Windows Phone 7 all having their own options as well.
So how do you weed through the junk? Continue on and I’ll show you how…

For well over a year now I’ve been pestering Beejive’s email box monthly, inquiring as to when we’d see the fantastic multi-account IM app on Android. Each and every time I’d get a response that ultimately said no, but went about it in in varying ways. It looks like my emails can finally cease as BGR has a hands on preview of Beejive for Android.
The coolest feature that caught my attention from BGR’s preview was “chat drawer” that allows users to quickly access and manage conversations via it’s own drop down menu ala the stock Android notification bar. Pretty nifty, eh? As far as looks go, it’s easy to see that they closely follow the iPhone-esque UI. I’m not complaining though. Beejive is slick. In my eyes, it’s the best looking multi-chat IM app for Android. But not only does it have a pretty face, Beejive super stable. Back in the day when I toted around a BlackBerry, I never had any issues with Beejive. Ditto for my iPhone version.
Looks like the Android multi-chat app scene is about to get served. You’ll be able to find Beejive for Android in the Market later this afternoon for $9.99. Excited?
Update
It’s out. Go and get it!
For many social junkies, having but a single, solitary account to communicate with is absurd, and possibly even insulting. How dare someone think that one account is good enough and everyone else should follow them in their choice of IM client/social networking service. With that said, there are tons of choices in communication services. So much so, it can be hard to keep track of them all. Thanks to multi-chat clients however, grouping all of those conversations, buddies, and accounts into one smorgishboard is a life saver as well as a time saver.
Mobile IM apps and web portals for IM clients are nothing new. Though the latter hasn’t been around quite as long as the stand alone mobile/desktop app nor has it been as fully featured or polished. Can IM+ shake things up a bit when it comes to online browser-based multi-chat? Continue on…

Popular multi-messaging and VoIP app “Nimbuzz” has just received a fresh update to 2.0 status. Besides a new set of numbers, Nimbuzz for iPhone 2.0 is said to include faster loading times/network reconnects, a freshened UI, and the new “NimbuzzOut” which allows users to dial out to international mobile phone and landline numbers on the cheap).
I’m all for a good deal when calling abroad. (Now if only I had someone abroad to call….)
Nimbuzz 2.0 for iPhone is now avaiable in the App Store for FREE! So get it while it’s hot! I’ll be sure to give Nimbuzz 2.0 a rundown on my iPhone later today and into the night and report how I feel. I’d suggest you do the same and guide your comments back this way as well.
A few more shots after the jump…

Oh the happiness that is flowing through my veins…
While I am more than ecstatic with my new Moto Droid, the one thing I want that it doesn’t currently offer is Facebook Chat. I’m sure many social butterflies in Android land feel the same. Well, there’s some good news. Ok, being new to the Android scene I made a newbie mistake. Facebook Chat is supported with Meebo. I’ve been using Meebo since yesterday on my Droid and like it overall. It could use some tweaking for the Droid’s higher res screen but other than that it’s golden. And of course, I have my FB chat. Now, the original, bigger news is that Facebook is this close to releasing FB’s connection interface to the XMPP protocol (an open XML-based protoco) that would effectively allow other chat/multi-chat programs to tap into FB Chat’s services. CEO Michael Raymond of instant messaging software developer “ProcessOne” stated that a recent scouring of the internet by their software bot had found the XMPP software stack hiding within chat.facebook.com
In plain english — it would allow services such as Google Talk to glean your Facebook friends and integrate them into one unified window and service bringing a more seamless experience to end users. On my BlackBerry and iPhone I used Beejive which is by far the best multi-chat app. Beejive has support for Facebook Chat as does a couple other multi-chat apps. Android however is alone for now, void of any official support. With their new willingness to share via this common protocol means Google as well as many other IM providers will be able to integrate the social networking giant’s chat features into their own services. I can’t wait. Who else is looking forward to this new found friendship?

While WWDC is still an entire week into the future, anxious developers simply can’t contain their excitement and products much longer. While background push has been a highly talked about potential feature on one of if not the most popular iPhone IM applications, BeeJive, it appears that next week we will finally see the release of background push notifications and get the much requested feature. As far as other features or even information regarding potential fees from BeeJive 2.x to 3.0 versions are still shrouded in secrecy. At least it’s nice to know it’s coming though….right? Soon enough we will know all the juicy details. Apple/iPhone users, are you starting to get excited!?

BeejiveIM
IM+ and Palringo..you can officially call it quits and bow to the supreme! BeejiveIM is officially out for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Coming from the Blackberry world, I used and loved Beejive (formerly Jivetalk) for everything…including sending text messages to keep my text message plan down. It was by far the best muli-IM client for Blackberry. And now the best has come to iPhone. So far every multi-chat client for iPhone has fallen short. Plaringo and IM+ can step aside now. What makes Beejive so great you ask?
Well for starters, it is extremely polished and smooth, no hangups or anything. Support for just about every chat service known to man kind. (Aim/mobileme, MSN/Windows Live, Yahoo, GoogleTalk, MyspaceIM, ICQ ad Jabber. It uses your data plan, NOT text’s so you can lower your texting plan and save money! Battery friendly, won’t drain your battery like many other apps. The developers of Beejive already have the background push notification service built in. It is ready to go as soon as Apple flips the switch on their side. But, until they do the Beejive developers have gone one step further and included instant notification by push email (requires mobileme or Exchange/ActiveSync account). BeejiveIM includes landscape mode for when you just want to type on a larger keyboard…!! Chat History, email chat logs to save chat history. SMS out, chat with SMS friends through AIM or Yahoo SMS out, it’s fully integrated with your iPhone/iPod Touch address book. You also get configurable alerts, customizable sound and vibrate settings, and buddy icon support.
While it is a little more pricey than the “other” multi-chat iPhone apps, it is by far the best of the bunch AND it’s cheaper than all other versions for other mobile operating systems! After using it for the last several hours I can tell you that Beejive truly delivers. It’s fast, stable, and has a sleek UI. It is my new #1 favorite iPhone app.
