For all of the novelty flash drives I’ve seen, none have necessarily caused a chuckle to form within and burst to the surface. But this particular one did. The Comb USB Drive. Yes. It really looks exactly like a comb jutting out from your computer. Why did I laugh? I’m weird what can I say? Mentally unstable? Possibly. Threat to society? Depends on what you consider a threat….moving on…
While it isn’t practical for everyone, especially those with tight spaces to work with, it is none the less another flash drive to add to your growing collection. However, with only a puny 2GB of storage and a grossly (over) price tag of $35.99 means this drive will continue to be a looker, though never crossing into my home. What about you? Can you look past the high entry price in order to call one your own?

The Fire Extinguisher Phone is here to save the day, though not in the way you would expect. Instead of quelling fire, this nifty little gadget will instead allow you to connect on calls like none other and look incredibly geeky while doing so. It’s pretty straight forward. Plug in the phone line, dial a number with the bottom mounted keypad, and proceed to yap away. Cool huh? $22 to yap into a red tank.

If you’re going to give a novelty gift, you might as well go over the top. Go geeky. Even though more sophisticated and advanced mice are making mouse pads obsolete, that doesn’t mean people will leave the classic piece of computer tech behind. Either because they have some sic fetish with mouse pads, or they are technologically incompetent and stand by the belief that a mouse pad is needed with any mouse is beside the point, the Hamburger Hut USB Mouse Pad is the mouse pad to get. Featuring a shape that is common with a hamburger, the this mouse pad one ups other pads by making itself a “pocket” design giving your feeble little digits a place to cozy up during those long winter months. Further bolstering that “coziness” is the fact that it plugs in to your USB port giving you subtle yet life sustaining heat. You know, as corny as the Hamburger Mouse Pad is, I still want one. $14 isn’t too much is it? Am I alone in my little corner?

Novelty gifts are all too often cheap gimmicky things that result because of procrastination on the givers part, or simply because their want to give something unique isn’t exactly translated in the best of form. Although, there are a rare few novelty gifts that are actually pretty cool. Gifts such as the “Moustache Mugs” prove that point perfectly. Looking at the image above, one can quickly gather why a mundane and overlooked task such as re-liquifying your body can become a highly sought after part of the day. Good for a quick cup of joe. Good for a quick laugh. The Moustache Mugs look like a good deal to me. $20/mug means you will have to save a tad to get the full collection. Which, if you’re a geek such as I, stashing away a few dollars shouldn’t be a problem. Another pic awaits your attention inside…

Whether or not you’re a packrat or simply love old games and the memories they bring back, being able to use old game consoles or accessories for new projects brings a sort of accomplishment or pride in knowing you’re getting a second use out of an object that was destined for the trash heap. The gadget in question is that of old NES catridges by adding in a bit of new school internal storage.
If you are the type that needs several external hard drives and requires that they be small and portable, external drives constructed out of old NES catridges seems like a pretty reasonable idea. If you have the catridges laying around, that’s one less thing you have to spend money on. Not to mention, how insanely cool it will be to whip out classics such as Super Mario Brothers, Zelda, and other golden oldie favorites only to reveal their hidden innards give them a fresh lease on life.
Ranging in sizes that come in: 250 GB, 320 GB, 400 GB, 500 GB, and 750 GB, any and everyone should be able to find a size that suits them just perfectly.
If these little new age wonders have caught your fancy, stopping by 8BitMemory’s Etsy shop will lead you on the path to retro goodness. Such cool combinations of old and new will set you back more than your average external however with the entry level 250 GB option ringing in at $119.99.
- ** For a limited time, all orders of the 250 GB option will be upgraded to the 320 GB option for free! Hurry before the offer runs out!
Of course, if the cost is a little much for you or you simply want to get your own hands dirty, you can always take up this little venture on your own.

For some, the games of today while visually dazzling and at times deeply involved just don’t have the same pick-up-and-playability of the classics. Back in the 8-bit day, sitting down and starring at a dude on the screen comprised of a dozen blocks was high tech back then. Similarly, the sounds and “music” that accompanied these wonders of science were something else themselves. If those beeps, bops, bams, and slams were sweet sweet music to your ears, the Atari Noise Maker may be just the device to make your life complete once again. Carry it with you and annoy your friends. Show off at family events. The possibilities are endless. All you need is $45 and long enough to stop by Etsy in which that $45 magically disappears never to be seen again. However, in return you get some sweet old gaming music. Ya dig it?

We’ve all been there, you’re at some social gathering/party and you can’t remember where you sat your beer down. Normally such travesties mean endless minutes searching frantically for your beloved beverage. Often times, someone else has claimed it, or you find it next to some questionable people with shifty eyes. Such people and scenarios often leave you nervous opting to instead abandoned your trust friend and search out for a new one. But what if you could find your beer faster by “calling” it?
Now you can with the Beer Pager. Featuring a koozie like design for your beer to slip in to, a remote that stays in the beer drinkers pocket becomes a beacon of light. When you lose your precious, simply press the button on the remote and listen for the belching sound calling out for your return. As long as you’re within 60 feet of your beer, you should be able reunite with your long lost friend and continue the festivities together.
One might think that such a novelty would be priced pretty high because the manufacturer knows people are bound to pay almost anything for such a device. However, you’ll be pleased to know that the Beer Page is only $20. Now, if you lose the remote you’re back to square one. Would it be too tacky as a necklace….?

Geeky little gadgets are something I long to find. When I can surely enjoy something more valuable or expensive such as a new laptop, mobile phone, etc, those little novelty gadgets are often some of the most fun. If you are a closet freak for air travel and long to someday put yourself behind the stick, yolk, whatever it is they call it these days, the USB powered remote control helicopter is just for you. While it is likely that this little gadget won’t help you in the slightest in real world terms or aid you in getting your pilots license, passing a few hours zooming around the house will be hard to top. The best part is that when the rotors slow and the action stops, simply plug the helicopter in to a USB port for some more juice. So tell your kids, it’s still not OK to throw balls in the house, but flying a helicopter is A-OK. The cost for such a venture? $39.99. You down?
