Feed that hungry mind of yours: The USB Slim Lunchbox

  • February 24, 2010 3:59 am

How many times have you said to yourself: “Gee, I sure do wish my lunchbox was a USB Lunchbox? Some may scoff at the mere mention of such a thing, labeling it a waste or “gimmick gadget”. But nothing could be further from the truth. Just as heat/ice packs keep food their desired temperature, so does the USB ‘Box — warm that is. If you find yourself fortunate enough to work inside and with access to a USB port yet not fortunate enough to have refrigerator/microwave access, listen up.

For only $25, you can pick up this little lunch time wonder and begin to enjoy warm downright hot lunches. I say hot because this puppy will heat your food and hold it steady up to 60 degrees Celsius. Which, for those of you (such as I) who become glassy eyed when metrics are used — 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Ya, it gets pretty hot. This isn’t creator Thanko’s, first attempt at USB lunchbags, though it is it’s slimmest to date, cutting a sizable chunk off of earlier models dating back to 2008. So, it’s hot and cheap, whataya say? Hot lunches FTW?!

Forget Shure, Etymotic, Westone, and UE. I want Sushi phones!

Think sound quality are the only things people care about when purchasing headphones and in this case, ear buds? Well, it shouldn’t be any surprise that the answer to that question is actually a pretty loud and resounding “No”. Hell, if it where, half of Japan’s headphone business would be wiped out. Their at times odd fascination with the more “creative” side of headphone design has created some of the more elaborate designs I’ve seen in simple sonic devices. At the same time, that design and creativity has come at the expense of sound quality. I’m sorry if I’m bursting your bubble, but a pair of headphones that when worn look as if a miniature samurai sword is being rammed through your skull just won’t able to compete (sonically speaking of course) with even a low-end set of Shure, Etymotic, or Westone headphones.

If you can put aside the frivolous pursuit for sound quality however, a headphone company based out of Japan — Solid Alliance — has (4) nifty novelty headphones that may just tickle your inner geek. The four designs include: an apple with an arrow through it, a mushroom, a small ear, and the now infamous samurai sword.

The clever design and conversation starter will set you back about ¥2000 if you live in the land of the rising sun or roughly $20 USD if you happen to reside back here in the States. Hooked?

Crack open a cold one without the lingering tuna smell: The Tuna Alarm Clock

  • December 16, 2009 7:40 am

tune-clockBe daring. Be different. Wake up in a whole new way with the Alarm Clock Tuna Can! If you crave individualism and long for expressing yourself in ways that are new and untapped by the masses, using a not so common alarm clock could be the first of many ways to shake up your life and those in it.

For the first few seconds, an alarm clock modeled after a can of tune (WTF?) seems pretty funny and cool. Then you come to the realization that the clock is hidden under the lid. Granted you can always pull the tin shroud back revealing the ultra econo-display that adorns the face of the clock. Hear that? It’s the sound of another novelty gift getting tossed into the bottom of someone else’s stocking. All jokes aside, it would be pretty funny to replace a tuna lovers cabinet with a collection of these and watch their face as they realize their entire stash has been compromised. Such a joke would be hilariously funny though cost prohibitive.

In the end, opening a can marked tuna without getting that clingy stench stuck to your ham fists is something we can all appreciate. $7.95 and it’s yours. Get ‘em while they’re hot cold!
