Skype is probably one of the coolest mobile apps that still isn’t available in the US. That little ditty is sadly attributed to the broken state of the US’s music business. But alas, another story for days that we’ve already covered. Today, however, we have a happier tone to pass on.
Fans of the upcoming Widows Phone 7 platform in the UK will be pleased to know that Spotify is on top of things with an already finished Spofity app for WinPhone 7 devices. (See below) 2.5G, 3G, and WiFi playback are supported as are offline playlists/playback, wireless syncing, and background support. While you count down the days, how about passing some of that time checking out the video that details it all in motion picture glory? Hop inside…
Update:
The video inside shows the current Windows Mobile Spotify App, not the Windows Phone 7 version. On that note, the Windows Phone 7 app is not actually finished yet. However, the app is at the very least “confirmed” and a “work in progress”. The feature list above still stands, although no official release date has been announced. Sorry for the confusion folks.
I usually am not one to nit pick too bad, but when it comes to gadgets, electronics, software, etc., I want the best. Heck, fastest isn’t fast enough. Sometimes I want to go to 11 when someone says 10 is as high as it goes. For the sake of this article, I’m talking about Google Chrome — my favorite browser. I, like many of you out there spend a considerable amount of time updating Chrome as I make religious use of the dev channel and dev builds. What can I say, I love the bleeding edge stuff.
Today, that bleeding edge cost me some sanity and the ability to check my Gmail with Chrome. You see, someone in the Chrome dev team slipped up a bit and pushed out a dev build with one nasty bug — offline use in the browser would cause it to display an epic fail when bringing up your inbox page. If you go into the settings and uncheck offline mode, you’re back in business though.
In all honesty, bugs such as this should be expected with a dev build. But even still, I’m seeing countless comments on blogs across the web of people ripping on Google for “pushing out flawed products”. Ummm, hello! It’s a damn DEV product. That’s even more removed than a beta. Some people…I tell ya.
Anywho, just thought I’d let you, (and you. Yes, you over there too) know that it wasn’t some crazy happening with your own computer, house, network, etc. Google was having an oops moment. Carry on.
Online storage and “cloud” services are all the rage these days. With business looking to cut costs and move data storage offsite as well as consumers looking for easier and more convenient ways to share/store their information for easy accessibility may have found iCloud’s basic package at 3GB total storage a bit anemic. But the great thing about iCloud was that it wasn’t just about storage. Web apps covering multiple spheres including work and play allow consumers to get their work done and their time passed all via the convenience that a cloud based service can offer.
While the web apps and desktop in the cloud experience are certainly talking points, the real excitement for today’s announcement is the launch of iCloud Premium. Said service now offers customers a full 100GB of online storage so that users can store pretty much anything they want via the cloud. While HD movie buffs and music aficionados still won’t find ample storage for their digital collections, I’d wager a guess and say 80-90% of the general population will find the 100GB limit more than ample enough.
For those mobile warriors in the truest sense of the word, mobile devices are also supported in varying degrees depending on the mobile platform — specifically the iPhone, Android, and Windows Mobile. I haven’t personally used iCloud yet on a mobile device so if anyone is willing to chip in a few words it would be more than welcome.
The 100GB iCloud Premium will cost $39.99 per year over the Basic 3GB plan’s price free entrance point. But for those honestly needing the extra space tied together with a robust allotment of web apps will find a winning solution with iCloud.
