Skate long into the night with the Photon Light LED Skateboard.

Yet again, another nifty gadget that society didn’t have when I was a kid. Gee, I’m beginning to think I really missed out…

The Photon Light Board is quite possibly the coolest skateboarding oriented product I’ve ever seen. Skateboarding in general is a lot of fun. When I was a wee lad, I admit that I spent a fair share of my time rolling around on anywhere from 1 to 4 wheels at any given point. Even tough that was no more than a decade ago, things haven’t really changed. A skateboard is still a collection of various layers of woods all pressed together. Riveting stuff I tell ya. The makers of Photon Light Boards however, are looking to break that decade long image of simply “a layer of various woods pressed together”.

The Photon Light Boards’ claim to fame is the integrated LED lights built into the skateboard’s shell in numerous places. One look at the picture above shows light emitting from a typical wooden skateboard bright enough to strike fear into the hearts of lasik surgeons everywhere.

While professional skateboarders use to super high-end boards probably won’t care for the lower quality materials used in this $60 board, you have to stop and think: “This board has LED’s all over…” If you really give it some thought, for $60 you’re getting a pretty sweet skateboard that regardless of your street skills, will impress your friends when the sun drops below the horizon.

Happy skating!

X-Flex: Bomb proof wallpaper. Roll on, roll off.

xblastSome of us just aren’ fortunate enough to be able to live in a place where we can safe walk to the sidewalk without fear of being blown sky high. What seems foreign to is all too common for many of those in third world countries and countries currently in conflict. Current technology simply hasn’t progressed enough to deal with the devastating effects of explosives — that is until now. X-Flex Wallpaper is looking to dramatically reduce the amount of explosive caused injuries and deaths by becoming the first “bomb-proof” wallpaper that can be easily and quickly applied. It’s so easy and fast that one simply has to peel and stick it to a wall with nothing but a few fasters on the corners. How’s that for fast and easy?

The wallpaper was a joint collaboration between Berry Plastics and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In Popular Science’s tests, a 2′x4′ wrecking ball was unable to break through a concrete wall which had X-Flex installed on it. That truly impressive. Just think of how beneficial X-Flex would be in places such as Afghanistan and Iraq were bombs and explosives are as common as rats. X-Flex’s strength may seem other worldly but really isn’t all that complex. Like many other projectile resistant/proof concoctions, it consists of a Kevlar-like material sandwiched by sheets of elastic polymer wrap. This simple yet effective blend is what is able to stop incredibly large amounts of kinetic energy in a super thin package.

If I were building a house in the middle east right now, I would do everything possible to make sure it was equipped with X-Flex. This stuff will really save lives.
