That’s right folks. Resident Evil 6 is frakin official!!!! Huge news for any of you zombie slaying gamers out there. Sure, we love our Dead Island and our Left4Dead – But Resident Evil is the original “next-gen” outbreak classic. Way back in the mid 90′s the Playstation [1] was graced with the likes of the entire Raccoon City cast. 15 years later we’ve been hoping for the rumored release.
With Resident Evil 5 kicking so much arse just a couple short years ago, the obvious sequel was rumored to be a complete reboot. Whether they continue the story or completely re-write it, this writer will be happy either way!
Earlier today at Capcom’s TGS Theater, which was running trailers for all upcoming games, featured the clip you’ll witness after the break. You’ll see ‘Biohazard 6′ during the trailer, never fear, if you know anything about the franchise you’ll know that is what it was originally named in Japan.
Anyone else stoked for this release now that we have something official to go off of? Jump on in for the trailer…

With a little bit over 1 1/2 months until the much anticipated first-person shooter release, pre-orders have already toppled the 1.25 million mark. This number has been said to put it “way ahead” of the previous title – Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Being at the same point we were before the BC 2 release, Battlefield 3 has already ten times more pre-orders.
Bad Company 2 went on to sell more than 5 million copies as of May, 2.3 in the first month. So EA’s newest title is definitely on track to beat that. October 25, 2011 is the date we get experience the newest edition to what could be one of the best shooters of all time. EA’s CFO Eric Brown said this release date, which is 2 1/2 weeks before Activision’s Modern Warfare 3, will be used to their advantage.
Battlefield 3 has already taken the crown as The Game of the Show at Gamescom in Germany. Expect a review of this game upon release. Us here at GS are stoked to get our greasy fingers all over it!

Been dying for a PS3 but just can’t quite come to terms with the $300 price tag? Lucky for you Sony’s dropping prices across the globe. Announced by Sony Europe CEO Andrew House just before he walked off the stage at Gamerscom press conference, consumers around the world will very soon be able to pick up a PS3 $50 cheaper ($249, €249, ¥24,980) almost immediately. The U.S. and Europe will see the new pricing in the coming hours/days while Japan will have to wait until August 18th.
In other news: Sony also unveiled a new WiFi-less PSP that will come in at just under €100 — €99 (~ $140 USD). Besides the lower price, the more affordable portable gaming device carriers a tweaked design.
If you were a PS3 holdout, is the new lower pricing enough to move you towards the checkout line PS3 in tow?

Since the whole thing with Sony, Geohot has remained pretty low. In fact, we have heard anything from the once prolific hacker for several weeks. But that changed in mid-May when he began working for Facebook. Yes — Facebook.
While Geohot started at Facebook in May, he only announced it this past Wednesday, June 17th (which interestingly enough doesn’t feature a “Friend” button anywhere on the page). With that said, it’s not exactly clear what he’s doing there. The “coming out” post on his Facebook profile page simple says:
is Facebook is really an amazing place to work…first hackathon over.
Cyber security perhaps? If only Sony would have hired him (or other hackers) instead of suing them…

It’s pretty much a given that nobody likes Sony. They’re assholes plain and simple. And while the world was transfixed on infamous iOS and PS3 hacker, George Hotz (Geohot), another talented PS3 hacker by the name of graf_chokolo was waging his own war with the media giant. But where Geohot was able to settle and move on, graf_chokolo will have to give in to financial woes and take up residency in prison instead.
In a comment posted on his website, graf_chokolo says:
Hi guys, no money left anymore. Going to jail soon probably because i cannot pay court costs.
But i’m ready to stand up for everything i said and go to jail for that too. It’s not important to win, more important is to show them that we are ready to fight, that they cannot scare me off easily. Yeah, i’m ready to go to jail for my believes and my principles.
Most of people probably think that all computer and kernel hackers are weak kids, hiding in a cellar, eating pizza whole day, writing software and looking for attention Maybe, but that’s NOT me. And i will get out eventually and continue my work. My work means very much to me.
It really is quite a shame that Sony can take people to court and ruin their lives when they’re merely trying to return a much requested feature to the community. Maybe if Sony actually cared about their users and environment as a whole they’d support the hacker community and/or hire them to better the platform. In reality, however, Sony hates you. End of story.

As promised several months back, Redbox is rolling out their trial game rental service nationwide. For $1.99/day, you can pick up the latest games for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 from Redbox kiosks across the country — now totaling over 27,000.
It remains to be seen if the market will accept and maintain multiple game-rental services such as GameFly and now Redbox. GameFly, for comparison’s sake, costs $15.95 and $22.95 per month and allows users to only rent 1 or 2 games respectively.
Any gamers going to start taking Redbox up on their new offer?

If authorities in Spain are to be believed, part of the hacker group Anonymous has been cracked. Three unnamed hackers believed to be members of Anonymous and tied to recent PSN Hacks were taken into custody Friday. In their efforts, Spanish police also found a server in one of the members’ apartments in Gijon that was supposedly used to not only hack Sony’s PSN but several Spanish banks and a slew of government websites across the world.
For now, the police aren’t naming anyone publicly or sharing many details outside of the general facts above. Also absent from the list of known information is just how involved these hackers were in the Sony hacks and Anonymous overall. At any rate, it appears Anonymous is coming under increasing fire as they hack their way around the world.
Wanted to jump in on the 3D gaming bandwagon but been put off by the high cost of entry which thus far has generally been relegated to the high-end (read: multi-thousand dollar) PC gaming market? You’re in luck. At tonight’s E3 keynote, Sony unveiled a new PS3-branded 24″ 3D monitor (looks like 720p) complete with active shutter spectacles, 6-foot HDMI cable, and one copy of the new games shown off today for a cool $499. Additional 3D glasses will set you back $70.
Considering what you’ll pay on the PC side of things (and with all the hardware and included game), Sony’s bundle isn’t actually half bad.
Even with a month-long downtime and non-stop work by Sony’s PSN employees over the last many weeks, something still needs fixed which requires taking the entire PSN down…again. Between the hours of 4:30pm and 7am (UK time) users will be unable to login into the online gaming network. With that said, Sony maintains that you still will be able to play games and collect trophies — you’ll need to log in before the maintenance begins if you wish to play during said maintenance, and any trophies collected will be synced back up with Sony’s servers once they come back online.
While the official reasoning isn’t mentioned, we can only look at the events that have transpired since late April as a likely cause.
