Tech bloggers and smartphone junkies alike may be rantin’ and ravin’ over the upcoming ARM Cortex A9 processor and it’s lofty 1.5GHz speeds and dual-core possibilities, but there are much greater things on the horizon.
Introducing the ARM Cortex A15. This architecture, codenamed “Eagle”, will usher in heaping amounts of digital masculinity in the form of 2.5GHz clock speeds as well as dual and quad-core designs. Even more mind boggling, the A15 will feature support for up to 1TB of RAM. Yes, a 2.5GHz quad-core CPU on a phone. For the record, expect this processor of the gods to come in 32nm and 28nm variants, with plans to also take on server roles in their next life. Interesting…
Of course, the A9 isn’t even publicly available yet in any form. So to say the A15 is coming “soon” is slightly misleading. Then again, all things considered, 2013 isn’t that far off, is it? Larger pic of the A15 architecture and upcoming ARM roadmap after the jump…
For gamers on the go, nothing is perhaps more exciting and useful as the Alienware M11X — an 11″ mini gaming rig of surprising power. The current proc beating at the heart of Dell’s mini-LAN decimating beast is homely Core 2 Duo. Even with that, it’s still the fastest 11″ laptop on the market.
But a new video floating around YouTube has Dell’s head of consumer operations (Pearce Clune) for the Middle East and Africa letting slip a juicy tidbit concerning a processor upgrade for Alienware’s baby.
Core i3, i5, and i7′s all around! Yeah! An already fast laptop is getting a swift kick in drive bay. Now all that needs to happen is that mobile GPU getting some more attention.
I for one can’t wait to get my hands on an M11X with a quad-core i7. That would be the be all end all of mobile computing. IPad what…

*Warning: Nerd alert!*
Building and maintaining a custom PC is a work that is rewarding and depressing all at the same time. Depending on how long it took you to build your PC, the “top end” components may already be outdated and 1-2 generations behind of current hardware. Such is the battle we fight…

Shocker! 6 cores are better than 4 with the up and coming top dog Core i7 chips performing roughly 50% faster on complex, optimized programs. I can already see you drooling, thinking out loud: “The Core i7 is just becoming mainstream and we’re already talking about it’s replacement?” Such is the world we live in folks, it never stops. But apart from constantly evolving “top dogs”, I have to say that the Core i9 power advantage is compelling to shell out extra for it. It won’t come cheap, though prices haven’t been officially loosed just yet. Another strike against the newcomer is it’s insatiable thirst for those cute little electrons — 130W continuous to be exact. It may not sound like much, but compared to the Core i7′s 95W power draw, 130 seems veracious. Even still, 6 cores of fury all packed into one small sliver of silicon is uber cool…

Oh the geek inside of me is giddy. News of quad-core mac’s are starting to trickle forth thanks to two new Macbook Pro model numbers referenced in the latest Snow Leopard 10.6.2 build seeded to devs. Such an update isn’t too far from reality as the last update bestowed upon these mobile workhorses was way back in June at the Worldwide Developers Conference. An update must be close if the Macbook Pro’s are to remain near the top of the heap. All fingers point towards Intel Clarksfield chips being integrated (read: Core i5/i7 chips) with better power management, increased performance, and the ability to kick any processor up a few notches when extra peeds are needed. Processors aren’t the only talk of the town though as out goes Nvidia in favor of ATI’s latest 4500 mobile GPU cards which should bring a rather nice increase to mobile graphics performance. It’ll be interesting to see how the use of ATI GPU’s affects the current power/battery saving scheme Apple has crafted by using both an integrated Nvidia 9400 GPU along with a dedicated Nvidia 9600GPU.
None of this has been confirmed yet, but again, such upgrades are highly suspected and are likely to happen relatively soon. Glad you held of on getting those new unibody MBP’s? I know I am. Core i7 equipped 17″ MBP here I come!

Love trees, saving energy, and hugging cute furry critters? Intel’s shift towards 32nm processors should help you in that quest. If you didn’t know, the big hype around Intel’s move to smaller 32nm processors will mean increased efficiency which in turn will provide better battery life ending up with the previously mentioned results. Most people won’t ever notice a difference or know that the computer they buy in the not too distant future packs a smaller yet ever increaasingly potent processor inside. As we look on after Intel has spent several years and upwards of $7 billion, the geeks in all of us can start counting down the days until these new chips enter the mass market while still feeling a bit of nostalgia creeping up inside over the 45nm processors that have become close friends these last few years. With a sign of the future in sight, Lynnfield and 45nm processors just became a lot less desirable eh?

Old and lame Chuck Norris jokes aside, the Alienware M17X, (which was revealed 4 days early by the way), has a spec sheet that will make any gamer anywhere drool, shake, and seize up in pure and utter shock. What exactly does this beast have that is so awe-inspiring? The list is long…take a breather and come on in.

In what is definitely going to be a good day for Apple fans everywhere, in addition to updated iMacs, the Mac Pros are receiving their own welcomed upgrades. Follow on through for the goods.

March 24th is the date for Apple junkies to mark on their calendars. Supposedly that’s when Apple will hold their next event and showcase their newest iMacs, Mac Pro’s and Mac Mini’s to the world. All I can say is I hope so! The iMac’s are rumored to be getting updated Nvidia graphics like the Macbooks as well as possibly a quad-core option. The Mac Pro’s are said to be receiving updated Xeon processors. And the Mini? More power? More storage? Start the guessing folks! Apple hasn’t publicly announced anything yet nor sent out any press invites. So here’s hopin’ for the best.
