Despite the fact that various retailers have already broken their silence on Sprint’s EVO Shift 4G, Sprint remained oblivious. Today that clueless ends as they have finally made the EVO Shift 4G official. With a 3.7-inch display, 5-megapixel camera, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS, hotspot support, and Android 2.2, the EVO Shift 4G looks to be the next go-to QWERTY phone in Sprint’s lineup. The EVO Shift 4G goes on sale to the masses January 9th for $199 after a $100 mail-in rebate. Press release after the jump…
The BlackBerry-esque crowd looking for a nice, Android-powered, portrait qwerty device finally have an answer with the Droid Pro. It’s rather small form factor combined with powerful hardware make the Droid Pro quite the compelling device as well as setting it apart from your typical landscape-sliding Android affair. Starting tomorrow, November 9th, interested users can pre-order the Droid Pro for $179 (after agreeing to a new 2-year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate). The official release date is November 18th, so you have a few more days of waiting left. If the Droid Pro is just the phone you’ve been looking for, head over to Verizonwireless.com tomorrow morning to pre-order yours.
Presser after the jump…
In the market for a low-end Android phone? Better keep looking if the EnV Pro was on your list of possible purchases. For all intents and purposes, the EnV Pro is dead. Supposedly, the device failed to impress testers, so VZW pulled the plug. What’s odd is that while it does have the look and feel of an entry-level Android 2.1 phone, the dual-screen design would win over hearts I would think. But then again, physical appearances aren’t everything.
Without any information of processor or RAM, we can’t even make a knowledgable decision after the fact. Of course, with no chance of ever seeing this in public, we really don’t need to ponder much longer. Admire. Reflect. Move on.
Anyone have their eye on the LG EnV Pro.

No, you’re not looking at the Droid 2 World Edition. This is an HTC-branded as-of-yet unannounced Android device that has the internal model name of “ADR6325″. By now, your standard top of the line Android handset is going to come with at least a 1GHz processor, 5MP camera, (and in the case of sliders) a nice, touchy, tactical keyboard. Powering this mystery unit will be the tried and true Android 2.2. I must say, the all black and red color scheme looks pretty slick on this Droid. WIth that said, I also like the more “feminine” looking white on the Droid 2 World Edition. Hey, what can I say; I’m pretty easy to please.
Which one will you choose: This all black beauty or the globe trotting World Edition? Check out more pics over in the gallery at BGR.

Straight up: How’s RIM’s new BlackBerry Torch? If you’re looking for something short and sweet, take this — Late. That’s pretty vague, however. But the BlackBerry Torch is so much more than that as it perfectly illustrates RIM’s ability to improve quickly and decisively while at the same time coming off looking worn down and tired. How can that be?
I’ll come right out and say that the Torch is hands down RIM’s best BlackBerry. Ever. It’s an awesome BlackBerry in fact. But therein lies part of the problem — it’s still a BlackBerry. Yes, some backwards compatibility/familiarity needs to be maintained as well as an overhaul of the platform. But where do you draw the line?
That’s precisely what I set out to do a week and a half back. Over these last 10 days, I’ve put my Droid down as much as possible and made the Torch my daily driver, fully immersing myself in it’s abilities and shortcomings. It’s been quite a ride for sure. Come on in and check it out…

As we all knew, the BlackBerry Torch arrived today, officially revealed at RIM’s quaint little keynote. But that’s not all. BlackBerry OS 6 was just as big for RIM. But before we get to the new OS, let’s recap the new hardware — BlackBerry OS 6, 624MHz processor (that’s it?), 3.2 inch 480 x 360 screen, 512 MB RAM, 512 MB Flash (+ 4 GB Flash + 4GB micro-SD card), Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi b/g/n, 5 megapixel camera, and 1300 mAh battery.
The hardware is certainly a nice breath of relatively fresh air. Can the new software deliver? Stay tuned…
Love the Evo 4G’s speedy processor, gorgeous display, and overall menacing presence but can’t fathom parting ways with a good ‘ol keyboard? Pat yourself on the back because you’re in luck. Often rumored and rarely seen, new information is now coming forth that paints a very nice picture for those who love getting physical. The Galaxy S Pro is very much real and very much worth your time.
How does a 1GHz processor (assumed), 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, and Sprint’s 4G network sound? Pretty drool inducing, right? Then there is of course the keyboard — the shinning jewel for those who eschew the current touch-only fad. If Samsung can manage to not skin up this beaut with a god awful UI, I’d be pretty inclined to give them my business. But given Samsung’s recent Android line up, a virgin flavor of Android running on the Galaxy S Pro is a far stretch to say the least. Hey, we can dream can’t we?
For the rest of the Galaxy S Pro, we’ll have to keep on dreamin’ for now as Samsung is rather tight lipped on the issue. Though to me, the last biggest piece of the puzzle is the display. Other than that, it’s all small stuff wouldn’t ya say? ‘Nother shot after the break…
Have a question about the upcoming BlackBerry 9800 Slider? What about OS 6.0? Well then, put on your seat belts and drop on in ’cause there’s a 16-minute walkthrough of both right inside. And it’s jam packed I might add. Besides a plethora of great pics of the 9800 itself, the walkthrough is actually really, really deep. Even better, we know who the first carrier might be. (Spoiler: there’s a T-Mo SIM card in the video walkthrough unit.) Ok, so it’s in Chinese. Beggars can’t be choosers. Besides, it’s all pretty self-explanatory. Get in there…
Get out your salt shakers folks. It’s that time again. Today’s grain-o-salt rumor revolves around the BlackBerry 9700. Specifically, a refresh of the 9700. From what can be gathered at this point, it looks like the refresh will be extremely minor — a bump up to 512MB of RAM, 5-megapixel camera, and OS 6.0 on board.
Granted, the jump from 256MB to 512MB is large jump in the smartphone world. Though it’s the rest of the hardware (and BlackBerry OS overall) that doesn’t necessarily make the best of all that power. Still, for someone who’s looking at picking up a 9700, perhaps it’ll be worth your while to hold off a bit longer. We’ll see what comes of this.
Would the aforementioned hardware and software changes keep you from upgrading?
