Seniors beware – Jitterbug gets a case of recall-itis [911 no phone home]

jitterbug-recall

Nothing like a good dose of recall news to end the work day eh? This oh sh** moment is not so proudly brought to you by Samsung and their wonderful senior-centric cellphone, the Jitterbug. It appears as if certain models of Jitterbug have a slight problem calling 911 when out of their service area, avoiding roaming, thereby creating a potential for a nasty lawsuit. Naturally, Samsung is hoping on their good foot and is issuing a recall that affects owners of SPH-a110 and SPH-a120 Jitterbug models that are equipped with standard keys. The affected models were sold between March 2008 and May 2009. (One Touch users are not affected.) Users of reported affected models will hear the message: “out of range, try again later” instead of the more welcome and friendly help message that should accompany a panic call. In all, around 160,000 Jitterbuggers and their little companions are said to be included in the recall.

Thankfully, the problem is quickly and painlessly remedied via a quick software update. In order to get the update for affected phones, give Samsung a quick jingle toll-free at 866/304-4980.

AT&T confirms: Quickfire becometh fire!

quickfire

The mysterious and insanely quick removal of AT&T Quickfires from store shelves the other day got many people wondering what on earth would cause such a reaction.  At first AT&T said nothing leaving the web to speculate as to the cause.  Well that cause is now known, a combination of operator error and just plain uh-oh on AT&T’s part.  Apparently AT&T named the Quickfire all too well as the Quickfire can quickly turn into a fire if the charger is inserted improperly causing the device to overheat, melt, and eventually cause you to have a very bad day.  Big Blue is currently in the process of dispersing texts and emails to all Quickfire users alerting them of the potential dangers of being an idiot and not knowing how to plug in a phone.  Full Email and Text message below:

Please take special care when charging your Quickfire GTX75 mobile phone. There have been a few reports of significant overheating of the phone when the AC Charger adapter is inserted incorrectly and forced into the phone.

The clearly marked, embossed arrow on the AC Charger adapter should always be face-up on the same side as the display screen of the Quickfire when it is inserted into the phone. See the diagram below for proper positioning and insertion of the AC Charger adapter into the phone. You should never force the AC Charger adapter into the phone.

If you have any questions, please call 1-800-801-1101.

Sincerely,

AT&T

AT&T Quickfire moving like….fire

Seems as if things in the AT&T/Quickfire world aren’t looking so good.  AT&T is reportedly pulling all AT&T Quickfire’s from shelves as fast is humanly possibly.  Now being the naturally geeked person that you are, you’re probably asking “Why”.  I’m here to report that I can’t help you with that question as I myself don’t know why they are being pulled….only that they are.  While AT&T is being tight lipped about the whole issue, more than likely it is a quality issue which just so happens is the very rumor that is currently running around.  So if you purchased a Quickfire have you noticed any shady events regarding your beloved little handset?  Is it broken yet?
