UK readers looking towards a Nokia N8 release date can finally be at peace. Pocket-Linet has scored some official confirmation from Nokia Mobile with the good news — August 25th.
While it’s a bit further into the future than Germany’s August 24th release date, I’m sure one more day isn’t going to kill you.
Now all that’s left to see is how well Symbian s^3 really is since the hardware side of things looks like it’s covered. Stay tuned…

Hipsters and haters of the darkness unite, RIM has your BlackBerry ready and waiting in the wings. The king pin BlackBerry (9700) will soon be dropping on Rogers in a rather calming hue of white. Much like the older 9000 Bold before it, a complete 180 in the color department may not seem like much if anything. But to some, it’s the last hurdle in actually picking up said phone. I prefer the sleeker more mysterious lines of a phone dressed in all black. Though I can certainly see the draw to white phones too. From the Rogers screenshot above, an actual street date isn’t yet available. So, be sure to check back often for any more information.
With a handful of distinctly different BlackBerries set to drop in the coming weeks, choosing what you want and determining what kind of Berry you are may be harder than once thought. Think a white 9700 would compliment your lifestyle?

Update #2: Okay, well, maybe Apple read my post, now the site is back up and running
Update: It seems, after the release from Apple, the Apple website is down. After visiting right after the PR was released, I tried to go back this morning, as I like to drool and build my dream Mac Pro, but I can no longer access the site. Is the Pre-Order section getting updated? Are people flooding the site, does my router just hate Apple.com??? So many questions, lol
Apple, today has released a Press Release for the official release date of the iPad, at least here in the US. It seems the rumors of delays were true, not horrible, only a week, but we still don’t know the final number that were able to be produced. Saturday, April 3rd will be when you can pick yourself up a brand new shiny WiFi model iPad, or you can wait til late April for the WiFi/3g models. Pre-orders will begin on March 12th for all US consumers, for both models. Those in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the Uk will have to wait til late April to be able to get anything. If you live anywhere else, you are going to have to wait until later this year, according to the Press Release.
“iPad is something completely new,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We’re excited for customers to get their hands on this magical and revolutionary product and connect with their apps and content in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before.”
If you haven’t seen any pricing info yet for this “magical and revolutionary” device yet, the MSRP will be $499 for the 16gb model, $599 for the 32gb, and $699 for the 64gb model. If you want to add 3g to the bundle, you can pick each sized version up for an extra $130. After you wait in line for days on end for this little guy, you’ll be able to pick up, for free, the iBooks app from the AppStore on your way home on April 3rd, which will include Apple’s new iBookstore, which according to them is the “best way to browse, buy and read books on a mobile product.” Of course, this is only going to be available in the US version of the AppStore, until the other countries are added later this year.
So now that we have an official release date, how many of you are going to order one of these? Will you pre-order from the Apple.com site for delivery? Or pick up one of the Apple Store locations. Are you going to wait in line like you did for that iPhone? Is anyone really excited about this product? If you plan on waiting outside in your respective city’s Apple Store, make sure to check back here on that day as we’ll post something, and you can comment how amazing the product is, or how lame it is, or how you got in a fight with a Jobs Fanboy that didn’t like what you had to say about the lack of flash.

If the highest possible FPS are important, generally a desktop (or insanely expensive laptop is in order). But a few new mobile gaming power houses from MSI aim to bring more high end gaming to the masses for a rather mid-range price. Announced at CeBIT, MSI took the wraps off the GX640, GT660, and GX740 laptops. Being the geeks that we are, we’ll highlight the king pin first, the GX740. This top-o-the-line mobile gaming rig from MSI features Core i7 i5 processors, ATI 5870 graphics, 17″ WUXGA (1920 x 1200) dislpay, and SRS True sound. The only big differences on the next step down — GX 640 are the slightly smaller graphics (ATI 5850) and ever so carefully miniaturized screen chopped down from 17″ to 15.4″.
The GT660 on the other hand is a slightly different beast with a more multimedia/lighter gaming personality with features such as dual hard drive support, Nvidia GTX285, USB 3.0, LED backlit display, and up to 12GB of memory. Clearly some very tough choices in the near future if an MSI laptop was on your radar.
For now, mums the word on pricing and availability. But it shouldn’t be too long until MSI treats us with such juicy specs. Any one seeing an MSI laptop in their future?

As far as device names go, the Samsung M100S is not thing special. It doesn’t hint at anything mischievous or powerful lurking under the hood. It’s a conservative and boring name frankly. But just as you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, a smartphone shouldn’t be judged solely by it’s name. The Samsung M100S is actually quite the looker.
Dropping on SK Telecom in Marc, the M100S will feature an as of now, unnamed 800MHz processor, 3.7″ WVGA AMOLED display, 802.11n WiFi/GPS/T-DMB mobile TV, and a 5 megapixel camera that supports 720p video recording. Moving away from the hardware, the M100S will be South Korea’s first Android 2.1 device. On top of the good ‘ol ‘droid, Samsung’s own TouchWiz interface gets slapped on. Finally, this little shinning plastic beauty will have access to both the Android Market and SK Telecom’s own “T-Store” for mobile applications.
Even though we won’t see this device anywhere near US shores, it’s still cool none the less. And because I’ll never be able to have it, I just want it that much more. Pricing for those fortunate enough is unavailable for now.
Anyone thinking of a cross continental journey…?

Are new Macbook Pros right around the corner? You could say the leaked images a couple of days back showing a Core i7 Macbook Pro being put through the paces as nothing more than some clever Photoshop mastery. I’m more of an optimist however. I’m choosing to take the higher road. A road which eventually leads to new, more powerful Macbook Pros. You could say my head is stuck up in the clouds and that I’m a too much of a dreamer. That may be true, but the images above combined with new evidence of disappearing SKU’s in store inventory points to the inevitable — that’s right, new Macbook Pros.
What of these disappearing SKU’s? The image above comes courtesy of some random Best Buy employee. What you’re looking at is the internal system page for the Macbook Pro 13″ — no longer available for order. I haven’t heard of any bizarre display, aluminum, silicon, ram, etc. shortages within the last month so why would they disappear if something newer and better wasn’t about to replace it?
If Apple were still attending Macworld, I’m sure we’d hear of the new hardware then. But, seeing as how they up and left that party, it appears we’ll have to wait until Apple announces their own little shindig or simply uploads the new goods to the store on a Tuesday some not too distant Tuesday morning.
I really don’t care how they do it. I just want my Core i7 17″ Macbook Pro. Anyone else getting antsy?

While some of you may still be chugging along on Chrome 1.0, or, if you’re like me running a beta build of 4.0, the announcement of version 3.0 becoming officially declared “stable” will have multiple meanings. For some, it will be time for a big update. For others, it will be old news. Regardless of which category you fall in to, Chrome has accomplished quite a lot in the year (plus a few days) that it’s been available. With dramatic speed improvements — 150% in javascript since beta 1 to be exact — Chrome is becoming quite the contender. But speed isn’t everything now is it. Bolstering that pep in it’s step is 3,505 bug fixes, fully implemented theme support, improved omni box, a slightly redesigned tab/top bar/tab page, as well as more HTML 5 support thrown in to make a great browser even better. Though it isn’t all peaches and cream as Linux and Mac users are still left out in the cold — that is if you don’t take advantage of nightly builds of Chromium for said platforms. In the past year, have you taken the plunge and wrapped your little fingers around Chrome(-ium) or are you waiting for that next update just over the hill?

CDMA users, if you have been dying for a flip style Blackberry because candybar phones just aren’t your thing, you have reason to hold out just a little longer. The Blackberry Pearl 8230 has finally made its way through the FCC’s gates meaning release is imminent. Who will get it first? More than likely (I’d bet my life on it) Verizon in the U.S. and Telus for our neighbors up north. While the Pearl Flip doesn’t really bring anything new to the table besides the flipping actionand second external display, it does bring Blackberry reliability and a sleek design with a solid OS.

In what is most certainly a very botched launch and severe delay since it was originally revealed, the Motorola Napoleon is pretty much a *slightly* revamped Moto Q. Yawn inducing features include a 2 megapixel QVGA camera, WiFi, and Windows Mobile 6.1. Sorry folks no new aged high tech WinMo 6.5 here, move along. Globe trotters should feel at least a little happy as it is debuting as one of Verizon’s world phones meaning there’s a GSM radio inside for jaunts across the pond. One feature that comes out of now where: average camera, WiFi, WinMo 6.1….BAM finger print reader. In order to keep your private information out of creepers’ eyes, Motorola has retrofitted a swanky finger print reader into the aging relic in a desperate attempt to grab a few customers back. While it does look pretty cool appearance wise and the finger print reader is still a rather unique feature, it’s going to take a lot more than WinMo 6.1, some fancy looks, and high tech finger print reader to make me part with my hard earned money. WinMo campers…are you going to bite?
